Are labour day flights naturally priced higher due to demand? Everything seems so damn expensive. I'm in Edmonton and want to go somewhere for 4 days...nothing seems reasonable.

The seats are probably priced the same, it's just that demand is higher. At this point it's pretty late for booking a peak travel day, so all the cheaper fare classes are likely sold out.

For example a flight with 100 seats might have 25 seats available at $100, $150, $250 and $400. So if they've sold 70 seats, you'll probably pay $250. If you wait until the last minute, it'll be $400,

so basically i'm gonna be paying alot to go somewhere.

how does standby work? if me and 2 buddies go to the airport what's the likelihood of getting a cheap flight to somewhere on that day?

forget about it. standby is only for passengers already with a ticket for same day travel.
