I hear if the book is still current and being used, they will give you back a pretty low % of what they sell it for, otherwise they wont give anything at all for it.
So around how much I can get for selling them the 5th edition book + the Study Guide & Solutions Manual?
The 6th edition brand new book(without the Study Guide & Solutions Manual) are selling for $170(with tax) at Ryerson bookstore.

Theirs one in the Student Union Building on Gould street. Just walk downstairs to the basement and you can't miss it. Btw, this is a used book store where other students from previous years post their books.

The Ryerson used book room sucks.
If you have a yearning to get a used book for almost the same price a same new book because of students who're expecting too much money its great, otherwise its near impossible to get anything good. Last year every single book I needed was MORE expensive to buy it used and missing the various codes and study guides than it was to buy it new...

does anyone have MKT 621 12-3pm?? I desparately need this section!! I have the section from 3-6 if anyone could trade with me!!!!
I've looked for more than 2 weeks, practically NO ONE drops =\
If you have Peter Wilson, you can just attend any section - just talk to him ahead of time and let him know you're going to be switching sections (unofficially). He allows this also he encourages you to pick a partner from the other sections for your group work.

No, he said he doesn't allow that anymore unless we have a valid reason or something..like work, but i dunno if he needed like identification to prove we have work

so I only have to pay a $75 penalization fee if i dont pay for winter tuition?
I can't get a work study job unless I'm signed up for the Winter semester now.
I was trying to get away with not paying until january because osap only gives you half of the money each semester.
Is it just me or are the osap students getting charged extra because they can't pay full tuition?

you need to search CPOL, I found one POL128 class open, but its not online, there might not even be an online course for this class (I could be wrong).
To take it online, same procedure as day school, find an open course and enroll into it. There might be a list of online courses on the Chang school website, have a look.

downloaded alot last year, but honestly it really depends on where you are speed wise. there are a few places that get optimum speeds
Here's some places I've used the internet to download around campus
Glass Building at Church + Gould = Really terrible speeds depending on the room you're in (a lot of the times internet won't even connect for me)
Kerr Hall = Not terrible, just not the best, at least you can connect in most places (the little study rooms also seem to have pretty decent connections)
Library = Decent, depending on where you are and how many other people are on line
POD = About the same as the library, I find there's a little less congestion though around mid-year when there aren't as many people online
Rogers Business Building = Really freakin fast in most places
Yah... I download all my TV shows so I don't need to pay for cable
Btw, has anyone taken LAW122 Business Law w/ Alkoby?
It's an elective, first class tomorrow.
A couple of my friends took it and said they did terribad, they're not the sharpest knives in the drawer tho

On the site you can access the textbook online, powerpoint notes, practice quizzes, summaries, etc. So not really needed but for some classes the teacher may put up quizzes through WileyPLUS and it will be worth marks.

Chang courses are treated the same as any other course so if you take chang courses that are required in your program then you'll be fine. It's probably too late to apply for the fall chang courses now, but i had a friend who applied to transfer to ryerson before the winter semester. You would need to take courses at your current university that you know ryerson has equivalents for (call in to the department) and then apply well ahead of time for the winter semester. Winter admissions aren't guaranteed to open for all programs though.

I checked out the chang school winter 2010 courses and found about 4 courses required in the first year of biomedical engineering and they are open...tomorrow I will talk with ryerson about first possible direct admission and if nothing then ask for chang school courses starting in the winter. ps. I plan to drop all but 1 or 2 of my courses this year and use them as transfer credits to ryerson (calculus I, and maybe calculus II/linear algebra)

Does anyone have a CKPM212 course shown on their "online courses"? I'm not even enrolled in that course or added to my schedule, but I'm receiving stuff from that prof  on my ramms.
CKPM is a challenging course. You're getting information regarding one of the certificate courses to project management.
If you're not enrolled for it, suggest you to remove it soon otherwise you pay for the tuition fee.

The problem is that it isn't part of my courses/tuition... You know on the front page of my.ryerson that tell you which courses you are enrolled in called "online courses" It shows it there and their announcements and such, but when i click on my schedule and account I do not have that course enrolled at all.. I don't even know what this course is even about.
Although I am enrolled in Project Management for Winter session, could that be the reason?

just email the prof and say your not in the course yet you get the course info and i think they should be able to remove it, as long as your not registered in your schedule i am sure you are safe

is it possible to swap into a class that is full by going in person to enroll?
if so, where can i do this?
i wanna swap my gms401 for the other gms401 class but it currently has 503 enrolled out of a capacity of 500.
You would probably need to go and look up the professor and speak to them directly.
Remember that the more people in their class the more exams / essays they or their TAs need to grade.
Also, depending on the classroom there are probably fire regulation rules for how many people can be per class.
The only way to find out is to ask
Good luck :)

I may not know all the details but...
trimentoring - partners you up with students who "show" you how to be prepared for university. Youll probably get more help from rfd forums.
tutoring - I forget where but they have upper students who provide tutoring. I think they will teach you more in bus100. If not keep your eyes open for emails/bulletins.

um...I bought an old edition chem book + study guide&solution book for $100 and I just sent out an email(about selling it for $100, through blackboard) to everyone in my chem class, and after 30mins, I got like 8-9 emails from my classmates, they all wanna buy my old edition chem book...and I sold it for $100...lol...then I bought the new edition book(2nd hand) for $90...saved $10!!!LOL
Even the textbook is old edition, as long as the prof said to the class that the content of the book is almost the same & you guys wont miss anything important, ppl are still willing to buy old edition books! You just need to email to prof and ask him about using old edition book and if he says its ok, then ppl will probably buy ur old edition book.

I was grabbing a coffee from a Tim Horton's in a cafeteria area beneath the library and the place was mainly empty- except for a few little friends who came out to say hello. I was sitting near the wall, and looking at a table about 20 ft away when I saw a couple mice come out from under an air conditioning unit that was underneath the window. ive actually never been in there, i just go eat at AMC
AMC is expensive. $$$$ I know a place downtown where you can spend 4-6 Bucks instead of 7-9 on a decent meal.
However, so many Sciencers as I call them hang out at the AMC for some reason. What is so GOOD about it?

For those in Ryerson's Business management, what is your opinion of the program? Also if you are in a specific major, what is your opinion of that too? I'm looking in to transferring to the Finance major and I would like some advice.

Second year business management (accounting).
I like it. Not the best business program out there but its respectable. Ryerson offers all the credits that the ICAO is looking for and I like the atmosphere and surroundings of the school so Im having a good time.

I'm very happy with it. I'm in second year (Finance Major) and I've already found a relevant job and (without going into details) I wouldn't have been able to get it elsewhere.
My opinion is that what you're being taught from most schools is the same, so it really boils down to the job that you get because as the cliche goes, the first job after graduation is what's most important to future employers, not something as relatively meaningless as the location of undergraduate school's campus. You will get more support and connections at some of the bigger name B-schools, but from what I've seen I think the difference is not as big as many would like to make it seem.

I have to register with lyryx for my FIN300 course and the info sheet on blackboard said that students who were previously registered with lyryx can get a subscription for $10.95. My prof said you could email them for a refund, but then I asked Lyryx and got this response:
Unfortunately your professor was mistaken. We no longer offer anything for the price of $10.95 and you only qualify for the re-registration discount (around $15-25$) if you have registered for a course using the same textbook and edition in the past.
As it sounds like you have not signed up for anything accounting, you will have to pay the full $41.95.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

I'm currently at Guelph and I'm thinking of transferring to Ryerson's Finance program because the program I'm in at Guelph focuses on more Economics and then some finance. What I want to do now is focus on finance and I would think ryerson's program would be good one to take.
Though it may seem that I may study for a little longer but I'm fine with that.

They came out a few times and picked up little bits they found on the floor. They were pretty big. I left a couple minutes later.
Wait there after 9pm and you will see lizards come out too, the kinds that change colors. One of them called me a cheap prick, so I stepped on it.

On my course outline it says $10.95 only for students registered in the Chang version of FIN300 (so CFIN300) and if they have registered for Lyryx in the past.
If you go to the discount bookstore its like $1 or $2 cheaper than purchasing online.

You don't need to keep any receipts for anything.
On your tax return books costs are calculated based on a formula rather than what it actually is.
You get a printable form from Ryerson (on RAMSS) that'll have info that you need to attach and include to your tax return.
I believe residence costs are also calculated as a formula but I could be wrong.

If it's a weekday and there's 3 people working and the line is only to the stairs/couches, it's like a 45min wait. If there's 1 person working and the lineup goes all the way to back and starts looping around, 3hrs. Best time to go is on the weekends, Saturday morning IMO is the best time. I've walked in at 10-11am and walked straight up to the desk and bought my metropass in less than 5 minutes. Weekdays early in the morning when they first open up (9am I think) as soon as they start to sell them is your next best chance, expect to wait 20mins to an hour though.

Couple of weeks gone. 1st term tests coming around, and I am a different person lol. Thought I'd share some of my impressions:
- Some profs style suit your own way of learning. Some others don't. deal with it. ex: Phys prof is an awesome person, but her voice literally gives me headaches:o so apart from the participation points, I gain little from attending, and bring my laptop to pass the time. in between clickers questions. speaking of laptops...
- Absolutely no need for a tablet/pc or laptop for notes. No class requires taking extensive notes anyway. in fact, unless you are really struggling, takes everything from blackboard, and build your own notes at home, in comfort.
- In very large classes, lectures are either too slow or too fast. I have to study 2+ hour for every hour of lecture anyway, so I often skip the lecture. in fact if not for those "evil" clickers I would never be there, as I am much more efficient studying from the book.
- No time No time No time. even after cutting all those classes, after studying is done, I have little left lol. How do you regular attendees do it?
- Orientation: Useless. 90% of the Info is on the website. Thanks God it's pass fail.
- Biology: Fascinating. But you don't need the prof. She comes, fly through her slides, and disappear. (Gilbride) what are you left with? Your trusty book that's what. :) Labs are nice tough.
- Chemistry: Fascinating. Great Prof, Livelier lectures. but you still don't need him. For some reasons he doesn't put his completed lectures on Blackboard. the skeleton his usualy enough anyway. and lectures notes are just guidelines on what to study. skip the middleman I say. or I would if not for those damn clickers.
- Physics: Very nice prof. you can tell she's passionate about the subject. About the only class I struggle a little in. really have to fight to pay attention here because her voice gives me trouble, and unfortunately 10% of the marks are participation points. on the good side she does give a lot of Bonus points.
- Maths: smooth ride. do the exercices, go to the labs, you are all set. and Kolosa is fun.
-Programing: Hamelin is the man. makes the simplest thing even more simple. you can't fail this class unless you want to :)
Eco 204 (Fung): yeah I am taking it out of phase, as I know for sure I am going to take an option in economics anyway: My favorite prof by 100 miles. one more reason not to use ratemyprof :) her presentations are simply "perfect", her lectures enjoyable, and interactive. her accent is strong, but quite understandable. and absolutely everything is on blackboard. she probably has it easy because the class is much smaller as compared to science's classes. about 20 students in my section

Completely depends on the class. I've had profs that just wrote "hi" and when the class is on BB. Other profs give you slides and other material on BB but give very helpful hints in class or then give info in class that's neither in the textbook or on BB so YMMY on this statement.
- Orientation: Useless. 90% of the Info is on the website. Thanks God it's pass fail.
Should have gone to frosh for your program, generally way better and much more helpful than the general 10 cent tour.

Luckily first yr ITM and BM take similar courses. I suggest you take all your ITM courses you are registered for in first year and you can get them all transferred over when you switch over to BM.
I believe around January you apply through an internal application at Ryerson for you to switch between programs. Keep you GPA up and you should be good to go. Talk to the BM office on the 7th floor in TRS or the ITM office on the 8th floor for more details.

Two questions:
1) Did anyone go to today's PCS181 tutorial? Could anyone please tell me if there's anything to note? I had to skip it to go do my GMS plant tour. Thanks.
2) Where else other than the Ryerson Bookstore can I buy a Royal XE calculator? I have a midterm tomorrow and my dinky little XE28 isn't working. I put it a new battery and it still won't turn on....worst comes to worse I'll have to do the calculations in my head :|

If you mean, when can we change the winter term schedule, probably first week of january.
As long as you did your course intentions you should be okay, unless you're first year, the courses are required/given to you.

The $70 dollar fee is a new thing Ryerson implemented this year. If you have any outstanding Winter 2010 fees then an automatic $70 fee is added to your account rather than interest being accumulated on that at the end of each month.
My question is that, I also have the $70 dollar fee added to my account but its been added to my fall account and not for my winter. Will interest accumulate on that $70 dollar fee?
Edengrave
Oct 15th, 2009, 04:50 PM
Will interest accumulate on that $70 dollar fee?
My guess is that it would. Otherwise, they'd have put it with the winter fees.
I am in the same situation. what's interesting is that I overpaid my fall fees by $70, anticipating this, but they just debited my winter fees at the time.
so I had to pay it again. should have waited I guess. Anyway it's only $70. not too much to pay for a 3-months+ deferral.

IIRC, the midterm I had was half MC/half short essays. The essays were fair (he gave us a heads up of what the questions would be similar to) and mostly needed examples from the readings, but the multiple choice was really, really hard (at least for me it was).
It seemed that the questions in general were more based on the reader, but I threw in examples and quotes from the lectures.
I'm not sure if he's changed the format this year, though.
Is he still using the reader from Alicos' that has the first five readings listed in the contents as:
-The Study of Politics
-The Media
-The Hollywood Studio System 1930-1949
-Canadian Media Ownership in an Age of Global Megamedia
-Earth to Hollywood - You win

Yes exactly, that's the same reader we're using now, same first 5 articles that will be on the midterm, with the blue cover, and it's from Alicos!
What are the specifics that he will be looking for or asking in the test? Do I really have to memorize every single detail in the reader? Because any of these little single things could be a question in the midterm...and it's nearly impossible to memorize everything...

I don't think they kick them out, but more like students fail and end up on probation or suspension. Suspension meaning they have to wait a semester to re-enroll. I'm pretty sure this is standard across all programs but at what grades are considered probation and suspension differ. I'm sure an EE will drop by sooner or later and be better able to say what it is.
Anyone else get random fees added to their RAMSS account AFTER they paid? I've herd of $0.51 but I got hit with $37 charge (it says athletic fees W2010). Shouldn't this charge have been there when I paid in the first place?

I am in EE at Rye. In my first year, there were apparently 9000 students in engineering, of which 4500 made it to second year. A LOT of folks failed out, or ended up having to repeat 1st year (i.e. 1st year over two years).

I have a question about Ryerson Health insurance that they offer us.
Well i was thinking of doing some skin work from dermatologist and it costs a few hundred dollars, i was thinking if Ryerson Health insurance can cover it or not?
This is what says on their website:
Health insurance benefits include: 80% for prescription drugs, $500 for massage therapy, $300 chiropractic care, $240 physiotherapy, orthotics and naturopath, and more.
Basic dental insurance benefits include: 80% for annual exam, 75% for extraction of 4 wisdom teeth Dental. Benefits are subject to a maximum of $750 per benefit year.

NOTE: EYE GLASSES ARE NOT INCLUDED ON THE PLAN but Green Shield offers a value discount to members.

lol, I need a new jacket, Opt-Out cheques if I remember correctly from last year should be available at the Student Centre on Gould street around the first or second week of November. Anyways, they will send an email around when they available for pick-up, $280 dollars here I come.
From one of those Ryerson websites: "Once you have successfully completed the opt out process on line you can pick up your refund cheque in November from the Member Services Office."

1. i dont think so... its either you get an incomplete on your transcript or it doesn't show up (someone correct me)
2. do it on RAMMS
3. Yes.. everything after 6 is basically "free" but have fun trying to fit that into your sced.. let alone juggle 7-8 courses.
4. Yes the do.. but some are only offered one semester. (ie x course is only offered in fall, not winter)
5. Yes.. around dec, before winter 2010
Isn't it 5-7 courses that costs the same?

an opt-out cheque is for your dental plan... if you have one, as in you are covered by your parents, you can opt out of it for the entire year and get back $280 from your paid tuition. Its too late now, but you can do it next year

Anyone else notice the network has been terribly slow? I normally run updates at school so I don't cut into my bandwidth cap at home, but Wednesday I was getting like 60kB/s from microsoft.com when I've hit 3-4MB/s. This is all in TRS at varying times.

I've found it varies depending on where your sitting on the floor even. I can be in the hall getting 500KB/s, and 2MB/s like 30 feet away in a lab.

It depends on how many laptops are connected to a particular repeater in the building thus the varying speeds. If you want good speeds, then wait till after 5 and the bandwidth is freed up and you get faster and consistent speeds.

This was all over the place, even over a wired connection. First was in a ITM class, so I didn't expect much there (lol), then in a law class where no one has a laptop and then finally plugged in an office. Never got higher than 200kB/s.
Today was decent, I was getting 600-1500kB/s in the laptop room over WiFi. Highest I've gotten is 70Mbps+ in TRS. I'll have to try the library out sometime.

useless? that book was amazing. Had examples on how to do problems plus plenty of questions on specific topics and even the answers to them to make sure you got it right. I wouldn't call that useless. If anything, I got by with that book instead of the prof's notes.

first you need to calculate what he owes you:
N= 4
PV= 2000
i/r= 10%
You will get FV= 2928.20
Then you need to find the payments he makes (PMT)
N=5
i/r= 10%
PV = 2928.2 (the amount he owed after the first four years)
FV= 0
Find PMT? (PMT=772.45)
Gd luck, if you still dont get it, just reply back

We only get a reading week sometime in the middle of the winter semester, unlike York (and maybe some others) that get another one right around now because they eliminated some days that were previously holidays.
The explanation for Ryerson not getting a fall reading week is that there isn't enough time to keep 13 weeks of class & get a week off. I'm not quite buying that, but whatever.
And for astronomy I can't seem to get past 1.5 pages. Everytime I click on Word I feel like falling asleep

One of the guys was an engineering graduate saying basically they take your money for 4-5-6 yrs that you do the program and then they let you go into a hostile job market with no experience what so ever to compete with Waterloo and UT guys who have tons of coop experience so the Ry guys end up doing like tech support IT jobs until they get their career sorted out.. something like 5 years before one is settled in..
A few years ago I did some contract work for a Canadian company, RIM.. mostly Waterloo asian guys.. smart people but a bit arrogant I think..
How does this school do ranking wise in the market for engineering??

There's other spots too if you're willing to give up on certain things... e.g. wifi, outlets, cell phone signal, although you could call most of these a benefit when trying to study.
I'm already done all my midterms and gotten all my marks back. One class had less than 24hr turn around time for marks - way better than other classes that take like 2-3 weeks.

Who else is in this course find that Jym is jerk (unclear and inconsiderate). Why is he TA/GA -ing this course, this guy is Chemistry PhD? I Honestly I don't value his opinion, but the guy is marking our work, WTF!? And what a dick move by Wise for pulling fast one, changing the outline in 60seconds begin of class, moving week 9 to week 8. Every1 that didn't show up lost marks and he refuse to give out the details of the group work. (I was there, so I am speaking on behave of those that didn't show up b/c studying for their next midterm, because we're suppose to be watching a video).
They want everything to be exactly detailed (If your assignment is 1 second late = zero). But fail to provide clear information on assignments and takes forever to upload marks (still waiting).

remember some courses require you to pass the final or pass the midterms in order to get a credit, and I believe if you have a cGPA of below 2, you'll be put on probation.

This has always been bugging me, what is the 'dining room' area on the 1st floor of the business building for? I often see students(I think?) dressed formally catering to others. I've only had a handful of marketing courses as I'm an arts student, so this has always been unusual for me.

You are probably talking about RU Dining which is part a project for one of the course that the Hospitality and Tourism Management students have to take.

Can you guys help me out and tell me a little about the Early Childhood Education program at Ryerson? I'm planning to apply there for Fall 2010.
Not a lot of schools offer this program the only ones in the GTA is Ryerson or Guelph-Humber (Rexdale)... Do you think it's worth it to travel all the way downtown for Ryerson? cause I live in Mississauga, Guelph-Humber would be closer...but I heard it's a boring and super small school of 3000 students.

Nasty? It wasn't too bad when I went there ~4 on the first day. Took about 30 minutes for me, a lot faster than metropass.
Opt-out paid my visa bill and now I've got a little change left over. Leatherman or a nice new Fenix flash light, oh the choices.

Maybe you should turn your Mag in to a Mag85 for the money.
You should look at the Maratac AAA instead of the LD01 it's smaller and costs less.
What's your current EDC?
Swiss Army > Leatherman
Surefire > Fenix.
You're kidding right?
Leatherman is so much better than Swiss Army it's not even funny I have both and the swiss army stuff is for cub scouts while a LeatherMAN is for real use.
Surefire better than Fenix? Maybe 3-4 years ago. Surefire is so far behind. While their machining and anodizing is good their driver efficiency and thermal design is laughable at best compared to Fenix especially when you factor in the inflated places.

Can anyone give me advices/suggestion in how to study the following subjects:
GEO 312
ACC 100
ITM 100
MHR 405
GMS 200
ACC 100 - Try to do most of the questions and check you answer with the solutions. I remember there were two sets of problems in the book .. A and B. If you have time do them both for good practice.
Know and understand the different accounting principals and GAAP rules as you will be asked some theory questions on the final. I remember my prof saying when I took ACC 100 that 60% of the final exam is practical questions and 40% is theory.
ITM 100 and GMS 200 - Just a reader course. If you read the book twice and know the definitions by heart then you will ace the exam.
MHR 405 - Also have to know the definitions and the butt load of different theories in the book.
I remember the final had case studies and had to write short essay answers. Have to use the principals from the book so you got to know them.
And the liberal, whatever your prof says about the final.

I am pretty sure the highest of two will appear on your transcript. If you fail however, it might appear your transcript that you failed and repeated the course. And make sure the course you dropping isnt a prerequiste for any courses next year, as you wont be able to take it until you pass the required course.

Straight up, Bus100, was probably the hardest exam I had so far. You should know what each chapters about. The index will save your ass, as its open book. I dont know if it changed, but you needed to get 70% on the exam to pass.
The answers are so similar, that you basically need to look for the exact sentence from the book. Dont go studying overboard, but make sure you have a jist of the course/the book/ and what ever the prof has said in class, as some of the questions of his lecture. And watch for time, I almost ran out, and did my my essay/long answer question without any care.

That doesnt sound good. I didnt read the book so I kinda have no clue what its been about. But today Ive been going over the self tests which are pretty comprehensive that it does cover most of the material generally.

Its all timed, you will always be given a maximum amount of time, cant remember how much we got, possibly 2.5 hours, did einstein say anything yet, like how many m/c questions, etc.
Remember its a pass or fail class, wont effect your gpa,
I would focus more on the courses, but still keep one eye open for this one.

Just wondering, but if anyones in BUS100 atm, I completed all the assignments and got full marks, and on the test i got 47/50 and the essay part is worth 10 marks.
Since I basically have 87 marks atm, and you need an 80 to pass can I just not do the essay part of the test? Or is it mandatory to attempt it?
I was thinking about asking an instructor, but that might be a bad idea being that the class is designed around becoming a "master student" and not a lazy one.

honestly, i doubt they failed anyone for the final of bus100. Im pretty sure a lot of people did worse than 70% on the final last year. And everyone passes it, its not so much about the marks but more about putting effort and actually doing all the assignments.
Dont worry about the final at all. I did absolutely no studying and just went to the exam with my textbook, found most of the answers and just bs the essay part.
Just know the topic for each chapter so you know where to look for each question and you're good.

Great thanks ... i am not sure who the prof is they haven't posted it online. Do you know what the weight of the course is?
On a scale of difficulty how was this course?
I believe the course weight is 1.00 . The course wasn't too difficult, during my time in the course we had to write 1 essay, a midterm and a final exam and sometimes pop writing assignments.
