Can anyone recommend a place to stay (not expensive) for one night in August in Interlaken? Easy to get to from train station.
Thanks

Last year I stayed at two different hotels because I couldn't book consecutive nights anywhere (it was early Aug, high season). They were just 3min away from each other, both about 20-25min walk from the train station, but very easy to get to (just down the main street). There isn't much right around the station.. just some larger hotels. Good thing is, they all include breakfast.. cuz it's hard to find food in the morning.
Hotel Blume - it is a budget hotel with a shared bathroom and shower (private, it's just not in your room). Pretty clean place, family owned, friendly people. It's the cheapest I found that was easy to get to. It's just a minute off the main street, but I took a while to find the hotel sign. I remember booking through Travelcuts website, might've been cheaper that way.. (80CHF/night in a double room, last year)
Hotel Splendid - Had to move to this hotel because Blume was full for my last night there... :P Much nicer rooms, cozy little place, people from all over, even saw some Canadian flags in the lobby. Cost me 180CHF/night for a double. Right on the main street.
Hope that helps. Enjoy your trip!

Balmer's is the place to stay (assuming it still exists, been a long time since I've been there)

You can take the train to nearby Lauterbrunnen, which is nicer anyways. There is a campground there with permanent tent-type structures you can rent, that would be the cheapest.

I was planning to stay in Lauterbrunnen until I stumbled across this hostel.

It is in Gimmelwald and highly recommended by Rick Steves.

Don't stay in Interlaken. It's so much prettier in Gimmelwald. And it's a short ride away.

Very nice area. I was there last month on a Contiki Tour. We stayed at a cabin across the creek from a nice campground.

That's the place I was referring to. The only downside to it is the Contiki party buses that roll in!

Balmer's is great and they got a campsite setup during the summer months. Here's the website: http://www.balmers.com/
