Step by Step Guide to Entering

1. Go to the System Builder page by clicking here. (http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc/)

2. Select one of the base systems.

3. Pick and choose the components you want in your system. (Remember that it can't total more than $2000)

4. Click Preview & Print this Configuration

5. Copy the list of components and the total price of the system

6. Create a new thread in this forum and paste the details of your system into that thread.

Contest Rules

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Individuals are invited to create a computer system of up to $2,000 pre-tax using the NCIX PC Builder at NCIX.com and then post it in a Custom PC List.
2. The Custom PC List must be created in a new thread in the forum entitled "Build it and Win it $2,000 NCIX.com Custom PC Contest!"
3. The Custom PC List must contain name of the products, the current price of the products, and the total of the items on their Custom PC List before any tax and shipping costs.
4. The total price of the items on the user's Custom PC List must not exceed $2,000 Canadian at the time of posting.
5. If an item has an applicable rebate, it MAY NOT be subtracted from the Custom PC List total. All Custom PC List item prices must be before Mail-in Rebates.
6. The contest will begin at 12:01AM EST on August 9th, 2006 and ends at 11:59PM EST on September 8th, 2006.
7. Individuals may create only one Custom PC List. Those found to have created multiple lists under a different user name will be disqualified.
8. A purchase is not necessary to enter the contest.
9. You may not include gift cards as a part of your Custom PC List.

DRAWING & NOTIFICATION
1. On September 12th, 2006 one user's Custom PC List will be randomly selected. This user will then win the items on their Custom PC List, to be provided by NCIX.com.
2. On September 12th, 2006 twenty users' will be randomly selected to receive a $50 NCIX.com Gift Card to be provided by NCIX.com.
3. The winners will be contacted by the e-mail address used to register their RedFlagDeals.com forum account. If the eligible entrant does not respond to the email within 7 days, he/she will be deemed to be no longer eligible to win the prize, and another entrant will be randomly selected from qualifying entries and the process of contacting a new selected entrant will be repeated.
4. In the event that an item on the winners' list has increased in price since its creation and the price increase has pushed their total past the $2,000 threshold or that an item is out of stock, the user will be required to pick a different item that does not make the total pre-tax cost of their list exceed $2,000.
5. In order to win, the selected entrant must first correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
6. After having been selected as the winner, the winner must provide their shipping address to receive their prize.
7. The contest closing date will be September 8th, 2006. Custom PC Lists posted after this date will not be eligible for selection.

1. The contest is open to legal residents of Canada who are residing in Canada, excluding Quebec, and who have reached the age of majority in the province or territory in which they reside.

You cant "not" take some parts. For example, I cant not select a case. This is dumb, because some people might already have parts that they want to use and this just consumes their 2000 dollar budget.

In other words, can I just pick the parts I want as long as they total under 2000 dollars, and put them in list? Whats the difference anyways, its not like im taking more, im actually taking less parts (but the beefy ones)

In the system builder, you can use the ADVANCED SEARCH button at the top right corner of each component, and try searching for the item you want, be it mobo or ram or gfx cards. NCIX is flexible with system builder, just that they only put the populars parts for selection on default.

Yes. Hell you could make one with 2 sticks of that high end ddr2 ram for 800 bucks or something and make a high priced LCD and a game pad and have it under 2k and there you go.

Anyway, i'm noticing this a lot, but people are throwing their dream system $ away when they don't notice the "Extras" tabs up top... Please remember that the stock mouse is like 70 bucks, same for the keyboard... what a hideous waste for most users! For small things like that, I would even go as far as omitting them from ur system, upping a few other parts, and buying a stock Logitech optical mouse from PC mall for like $10 :D

Is this the case now, or is it just using the system builder to build whatever you might happen to want?

You can change your config if you want, just edit your post.

You have to use the system builder to build your system. What you put in it, is up to you.

Hi I need some help. Can someone please tell me if my motherboard I have selected already has a LAN port for ethernet hookup? Or do I have to purchase a separate ethernet card? As well, do I need a sound card, or is that 7.1 sound on board the motherboard already? I have a feeling there is 10/100 Lan port and a sound port on the motherboard already-- can someone confirm this so I can remove my soundcard and wireless-card options?

I think I see a potential problem?
This is my memory times 2 sticks (so 4GB of DDR2):

And this is what the MoBo specs say in detail:

- Max. capacity: 2GB

Does this mean it will support max 2GB of DDRII? Or can I put 4GB?

Btw, the mobo says it has front i/o ports, specifically 4 USB2.0 ports... are those pre-installed? Or do they yank those from the mobo? I've no idea how cases work these days..

there is a cable that comes with the case that runs from the ports to the motherboard

I don't think that has ever been asked before, but my guess would be No.

NCIX still has to pay the shipping cost and actually build the PCs.
2 PCs = 2x cost of shipping + 2x labour + 2x testing.

The builder is pretty good to select only DDR2 memory if the mobo requires it. It's safe to say that ALL motherboards come with ethernet ports as well. You can always click on the part's name and then it shows product details. motherboards normally have about 3 pages worth of details, and it will show what I/O ports they have.

I think you have the wrong idea about BTX, BTX is just standard for arranging the components on a motherboard to improve on airflow.
There will be no direct benefits to overclocking, apart from having a cooler system.

Regardless of all that, it's not a popular standard and there aren't many motherboards and chassis that support it.

The best 2 grand can get you is a budget gaming machine in any case. I am glad that they had the Stacker, for all of you that know what I'm talkin 'bout, aheeet! If the price was 4-5 grand, I would have gone with a 5x ultra320 15k scsi hdd setup (with no controller, as I already have an ultra320 raid card), 4 way dual opty's, and much much more.
