Hey all,
Looking to get my friend a bday present, do you guys know if they sell any Legit Bape gear in Pacific Mall, particularly the store upstairs? I have real bape tees and bapestas (omedosando, harajuku bws) but i can't tell the fake ones.
Thanks much!

Lounge?
I've been there before,, how much do they sell the shirts for?
The shirts in Tokyo are around... $60 + USD, Bapy Milos are around $80, so if stores in Toronto are selling for around $70 CDN and they are legit, how are they making money???

Considering that the shirts are prints and the fapes from HK are really well done, why not just go with the fapes? Like unless some stranger on the street comes up to you and starts feeling your shirt, taking it off your body and examining it under a laboratory microscope, what difference does it make?

shirts and jackets are easy to tell... stitching, the bape logo on the sleeve (if looks like homer simpson then its fake) or u can check the tags too... the real ones ive seen has a bape logo inside the tag that u can only see under UV light
heres a good place to start

there is 1 or 2 stores in pmall that sells real bape but they only have like 1 or 2 items and now the store is taken over by a dvd shop.... majority of store in pmall do sell fape and fapesta... -_- ...

A Bathing Ape. "Fape" comes from "Fake Bathing Ape."
This thread must've really piqued your interest for you to read and respond about a topic you don't recognize. It's like all those posts on Craigslist asking, "What's 420?" or "Why the hell are you asking for snow in the summer?!" If you have no interest in a certain product then why ask about it? Because if you really were even interested in the slightest you'd already know at least some of the lingo.

So what do you guys think the mark up is on the retail side? I wanna know how much these retailers pay to purchase a regular bape t-shirt. These things are ridiculously expensive.
trolleydolly
Aug 9th, 2006, 06:16 PM
Well, I believe Niko (designer) intended his gear to be sold only in his own Busy Workshops (boutiques), since he never wanted his clothing to become trendy. You won't find BAPE at department stores. As for these individual retailers in Canada carrying them, I believe the gear is purchased at retail price either from NYC/London/Hong Kong/Japan and they sell them for whatever they want. Like I said, basic t-shirts bought in the London boutique retail for approximately $105.

I call BS on this if Nigo actually said that. First of all, look at the Wikipedia entry:
"The brand's name is based on a common Japanese saying, "bathing in lukewarm water," that describes the willingness of Japan's youth to follow popular trends.
Prior to starting his label the creator Nigo worked for Boon. Boon is one of a number of mens magazines in Japan that focuses on street name brand fetishism."
Secondly, there was an interview shown on CNN with Nigo saying that he wants Bape to become a lifestyle. The guy is smart and has worked in youth culture so he knows exactly how to create demand for a product.

Aug 9th, 2006, 08:53 PM
Did you Wikipedia and quote that just so you could call BS on someone?
"A Bathing Ape" was adopted tongue-in-cheek to mock the sheep-like tendency of youth. When Nigo was growing up, he hated that so many people wore the same thing over and over. That's why he originally intended BAPE to be an underground brand.
I call BS on this if Nigo actually said that.

Here is the bottom line about fape... Real bape fans are the ones who line up, hunt down, and go to extreme lenghths to get their stuff. Not everybody, but the hardcore bape fans yes, same goes for sneaker heads. This is what these kids are known for. As a result of this, sometimes certain products blow up in price due to the demand. So here is where it gets tricky. So, because there is such a demand for a product that isn't accessable to everybody they come out with fakes. Sometimes these fakes are real good, it's tempting sometimes to be able to get something for so cheep that looks almost identical. Also, it cuts down on the time to actually locate a preticular product, a real bape head is gona go through message boards, find contacts, look around and actually hunt their shoes down. The real sneaker head knows whats going on in street wear, they got the T's, they got the jeans, they got the accessories, they have the attitude, the lifestyle and most definetly they got the shoes.. Now, when it comes to fape, here is the deal.. These kids who rock that sh*t, just wana post as if they are the sh*t. They don't care about the industry, they don't care about the scene. All they care is that they think that they look fresh and try to impress their homie friends. These kids think that going on ebay and paying 80 bucks for a pair of Bapesta is gona make em look cool. First off, any bape head can tell a fake a mile away, and anybody trying to rock fake bape looks foolish anyways. They don't know **** about the scene, they just wana pose and try to be in it. Let the fakers have their fape, lately i've seen it all over Toronto on young thugs, and they still don't know how to dress. They have their EXCO jeans down past their ass' and a bape hoodie on, with some beat up AF1's. It's like who you trying to kid buddy.
Even today, i walked into some shop and some EMO kid was talking to his friends how he got a bape hoodie for 80 bucks and how he was gona sell it on ebay for 400. As if this kid knows a thing about bape, just goes to show you how fast bape has invaded north america and how mainstreme it will soon become. Once the mass' know about it, it's pretty much dead.. Sorry to say that, but day by day I start to feel that way.

I heard through the grapevine that Showroom on Queen St. (infront of the gap, beside the Aritzia) was importing in genuine Bape.
Happened to be there today and went to check it out, they allowed me to check out all the stuff since they keep it in the back but it's all legit.
Bad thing is that they got some crazy reseller markup on the stuff, $160 for the Bape shirts, $170 for Baby Milo shirts. Had some shoes but not for sell only for display.

The only thing that might save Bape is that they only manufacure a limited amount of each style and in each coliour so it becomes a bit harder to duplicate/replicate.
I heard that Bape is also co-owned by Pharrell (from the Neptunes) & that he has some kinda financial stake in the brand. In addition to his BillionaireBoysClub line, Pharrel started his own Ice Cream shoes which show a resemblance to BAPEstas.

So you need a UV light to see if a brand is fake or not.
Sound like the fake LV bags. They look so good and so authentic,
that the real thing loses its cache value. Its street cred, as it were.
No one cares whether its real or not anymore. Its meaningless.
Unless you're going to check the tags of a friends shirt, (with your pocket UV lamp) you won't care either.
And if you do care, why do you care? Are you going to dismiss someone because they are wearing a fake tshirt?
If it looks the same and they saved $60 on t-shirt (never thought I'd ever use that phrase! ), who's the wiser?
I mean its not like a fake Rolex. There's no technological advantages of owning a real Bape.
Anyways, in 1 yr, you'll be washing the car with it. :cheesygri

I assume you are in "the scene." Well, that explains alot, actually. It's pretty stupid to try to sell a fape for 400, but let them figure that out. W/regards to your post about kids wearing beat up sneakers, exco jeans past their ass with a bape hoodie on...if it is real, what do you have to say then? =\ Some people just save up and splurge on things one at a time. Maybe you ought be a little less harsh on the kids. Just let them be. (I don't wear anythign expensive. Adidas hoodies, old navy stuff, gap stuff, the occasional TH + CK + Polo stuff, but really I'm no dresser.)
Has anyone also noticed that it's the bball players with the best shoes who suck the most at the courts...Goes to show what these scene kids are reaaaallly capable of. ¬_¬
As for contributing to the thread, I had no idea that a brand called BAPE existed until now. IF it's at pmall for a good price, it's probably fake. Look around for "how to tell genuine" bape guides? Or go to a store which has reputation for BAPE stuff, take photos of tags, stitching, logos and then bring your camera to compare photos to the stuff at pmall. =\

theres no store in toronto that sells legit bape.
the only store that sells ICE Cream and BBC is Livestock on richmond and spadina
since ice cream and bbc is already expensive to ship to canada.... there isn't much point in shippin bape to canada because then they would have to mark up the value by 100-200 bucks. to compensate for tax and custom and shippin and etc...... SHOWROOM on queen use to sell legit bape but they don't nemore as the prices were too expensive and no one wanted to pay tat much wit tax. just so u noe NOTHIN AT PMALL IS LEGIT. not even the jcy house there is either...even though its a chainstore. if u have ne other questions or inquiry bout bape or ice cream.. you can email me at a mikecheng45@hotmail.com and ill help you out. just don't spam!!! i myself have a few bape and ice cream items but they were all imported from the US soo...in the long run us is cheaper still...
