Hope you & your fiancee like sand + sun

Avoid going around ramadan (sorry, dont know how to spell properly) as businesses stay close until sunset (but stay open until midnite)

Dubai is one of those places that's going thru change so quickly that any travellers' advice become outdated almost immediately.

Stayed at the Hilton Jumeirah in oct 2004; decent beach and a 15 min cab ride to main shopping areas of dubai. Everything is really spread out, so leave yourself a budget for cab fare

Definitely pay a visit to the 7 star hotel: http://www.burj-al-arab.com/

If you dont want to spend $800 for a room, consider going there for afternoon tea (approx $50 USD). Great views of the different man-made island projects like The Palms, The World, etc

A lot of tour companies can help you book a sand dunes trip (i.e. ride in a Land Cruiser while a driver runs up & down sand dunes + a middle eastern buffet style dinner)

Congrats on the wedding!
The indoor ski centre should be done by now

When are you going for your honeymoon?

Best time to go is the shopping festival...

I went in 2004 and 2005. Big changes i a span of one year.

Great idea! Dubai is a fantastic place - very cosmopolitan (out of 1.2 million people, 1 million are foreigners)! The food and shopping is incredible. The beach is gorgeous and there are tons of hotels to choose from. Jumeirah Beach hotel is good as is the Fairmont (two that I've stayed at). If you want to splurge, go for the Burj.

The indoor ski centre is completed and although I did not ski, it looked like a fun place to hang out.

There are a lot of good clubs/bars there as well. Most of the hotel bars/restaurants are fun - don't forget to check out a karioke bar as you see lots of locals and foreigners having a great time (and the music is sooooo old it's actually funny).

Dubai is simply spectacular, however if you enjoy history in architecture dont bother. Its very "Plastic" there. That being said, you literally feel like you're walking through a wonderland. And because you're on your honeymoon, and you posess Canadian passports, you will get treated like gold there.

I was just there in July, be careful with construction when choosing a hotel. We stayed at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach which was amazing since we had an Oceanview Suite. But the rooms on the other side were overlooking a construction site and could hear the construction going on at night (it was too hot for them to work during the day).
