My wife and I are planning to go back to PRC for 2 months in mid-sept and wish to make 2 stopovers (Hawaii for 7 days and Toyko for 3 days). Someone told me that airlines don't offer free or cheap stopovers anymore, is this true? We are planning to go the Buffalo way to avoid the crazy airport tax.

I tried Air Canada for multiple stopover and got a rate of CAD 2250   , and I tried the United Airline and they charge US 21xx. >:(

Any constructive suggestions?

if you fly cathay you can get a stop over in tokyo for no extra charge e.g.

you fly to hk, stay as long as you want, continue to tokyo stay as long as long as you want, fly back to hk stay as long as you want or leave right away.

You wouldnt be able to add hawaii into the mix.

Not sure if Cathay flys out of buffalo.
