I just got the Marriott Ottawa for $44USD this weekend on priceline.
Haven't figured out how to get around the $21/day parking fee though.

Parking in city owned lots on the weekends is free here in Ottawa.

Best places are the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa and The Casino in Hull. Not the cheapest by a long shot.

Stay at the Westin, it's across the street of Chateau Laurier but much cheaper.

I've stayed at the Hilton on the Quebec side (absolutely amazing place) and the Minto Suites in Ottawa. Both were very nice but the Minto has much more of business feel to it.

I think the OP is refering to parking at the hotel overnight at $21. As a remember, you can't park on the city lot overnight or for more than 24 hrs period.
HighFlyer, I stayed at Ottawa Marriot 2 months ago and $21/day is with the in/out previledge. If you just need to park the car there w/o in and out, I think it's $15/$16 a day. You can get the cheaper pass at the front desk of the hotel after you park (Ottawa is not too big and the hotel's location is good. You can get to most places on foot) and upgrade it to $21 if you need to get out during the day to some further places (ie, the casino).

I was there on July 1st weekend and it was 17 dollars at the front desk. They said nothing about extra for in/out privleges. The only time I took my car out the gate was wide open and nobody was there so I don't know for sure. Anyways its 15 dollars if you pay the attendant in the garage directly, but I bet you won't get in/out priveleges that way.

Under the 'Hotel' tab, there should be an icon that says "Deeper Discounts. Name Your Own Price". Click on that one, and a pop up window should appear. Enter Ottawa and the dates, click Next. Then select 'Ottawa, Ontario, Canada'. On the next screen, I only had "Ottawa", and 3* selected. My first bid of $44 was accepted. For a list of potential 3* hotels (as you are not guaranteed the Marriott), go to biddingfortravel.com. If your bid gets rejected, it could be because there's a convention or some event that could cause a high demand on hotel rooms.

Because you never know which hotel you will win on priceline, it's almost impossible to know if there are outdoor parking lots near the hotel where you'll be staying. I didn't mind paying the parking at the Westin because the normal room rate for the room that I got was close to CAD $200/night plus taxes. So if you factor in the $15 parking, I paid CAD $95/night; less than half.

Stay at the Westin because you're pretty much in the tourist hub, the Marriot is more in the downtown business section.
Things to do in Ottawa
1. Take a boat tour of the Canal.
2. There's a bus tour in Ottawa, that will bring you to all the tourists attractions in Ottawa like War Musuem, Rideau Hall, etc. There's two double decker buses that run, so what you can do is stop at a place to visit, see it for an hour or two and then get back on the other bus to go on the next location. Your pass is good for two days which should be enough to visit all the tourists attractions.
3. Eat at The Byward Market, tons of restaurants. I highly suggest Blue Cactus, it's like $80-$100 bill for two with drinks.
4. Parliament.
5. Check out a movie at the IMAX at the Musuem of Civilization - the bus tour goes here.

thanks phd1969! I looked up the maps and distance for hotels (marriott, westin, and others in ottawa downtown area) and they all seem to be in 6km, 7min drive range which is not bad!
but again, if i get deal at westin, it's dream come true.

There's bylaws that you can't park on the street overnight, better to pay the $15 than to get a $45 ticket.

There were some vacant spots on the side streets. There's also a parking lot diagonally across from the hotel that was charging a $5.00 flat rate. But when I pushed the button for 'max time' on the machine, it only gave me until 6AM, so I cancelled the transaction as there's no way that I'm getting up at 5:59 to buy another ticket  . But you might catch an attendant on duty during the day to see if there's a fee that will cover the morning as well.
If you do end up parking at the hotel, they accept cash only.

Thanks Highflyer....you've been very helpful...Its always good to be prepare for these 'suprises'. I'll try the lot across the stree...as $5 is wayy much better then $17!!! (also I heard from a friend that there are many places at walking distances...like musuem/canal)
(I'll try giving them my visa for parking - no cash :cheesygri

The most scenic view in Ottawa should be the Rideau Canal:
http://yellowlorry.com/gallery/rideau_canal.jpg
Also, don't miss out the "pedestrian only" district near Metcalfe and Sparks:
http://yellowlorry.com/gallery/metcalfe_sparks.jpg
And if you are going to the Parliament Hill, make sure you visit the Peace Tower (after the guided tour) and take a picture from there:
http://yellowlorry.com/gallery/peace_tower.jpg
By the way, I stay at Albert at Bay Suite Hotel (http://www.albertatbay.com). Cost me $109 per night (plus another $10 administrative fee from Capital Tickets); HOWEVER, for those who haven't been there, the suite is HUGE: 800 sq. ft plus with kitchen and dining room. And they've also got a good fitness centre with more than a dozen different machines.
Oh, and the Byward Market closes quite early (6 PM), but the restaurants in the area are busy all evening. I took something light (combo platter and beer) at Hard Rock Cafe (patio), and the service is good.

News to me. In the downtown core Ottawa has an abundance of free street parking after 5:30 p.m. which is good until 7:00 a.m. (8:00 a.m.) the next morning. Saturday/Sunday free all day. Technically, you could park from 5:30 pm Friday to 7:00 a.m. (8:00 a.m) Monday for free. See http://ottawa.ca/city_services/parking/onstreetrestrictions_en.html which is included in http://ottawa.ca/city_services/bylaws/municipal_bylaws/park_road_trans/traffic/index_en.shtml
There are exceptions, some residential street (near the core) with limited parking require a permit beyond a time limit and the Market - pay parking is available but nutsy there.
My favourite, especially if staying at the Sheraton on The Arc - The World Exchange Plaza on Queen/Metcalfe/O'Conner/111 Albert St has free parking indoors from midnight Friday to midnight Sunday, i.e, all day Sat./Sun.

The signs in the downtown core to watch are "No Stopping" between 7 - 9 a.m. and 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. on virtually all the streets. Subject to ticket and towing.
At Kent/Queen Streets, I look down (visually) on this intersection and parking at the parking meters after 5:30 p.m. is generally good and free until 8:00 a.m. Read the sign on the meter. The one side (south) on Queen next to the parking lot is signed "No Stopping" 7:00 - 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. and both sides "3:30 - 5:30 p.m."
Parking lots. if you have to pay at a machine, make sure you pay and are not on overtime after 5:59 a.m. as the cost per half hour will be expensive. For overnight parking, pick a parking meter, e.g. in front the Crowne Plaza on Bay St at Queen, there are 5-6 parking meters good untill 8 a.m. the next day - free.

From the Marriott to the World Exchange Plaza, go east on Queen St (Parliament Hill will be on your left) about 3 blocks (past Bank St, O'Connor) and before Metcalfe St. There is an entrance from Queen (as well as one from Metcalfe which is one way and the wrong direction from Queen)
For a cheap eat at breakfast, go to Dunn's on Queen St. (north side) about 100 feet east of Bank St, next to a shoe repair store. The front door is easy to walk by even when you know it is there. If you find Laura Secord, you're close, if you get to the CBC building, you've gone too far.
Dunn's - It's $2.99 for 2 eggs, bacon or sausage or ham, toast, coffee with refills $2.99, with GST $3.17. Generally $4. covers it and tip. The price is good Monday - Friday, not sure about Sat/Sun. Dunn's is on Elgin St also.
Beware - Watch out on a holiday, they're inclined to boost the price to $6.99 without notice like they have done at Christmas time. If going on a holiday, confirm price before ordering.

Cool...thanks again Ken....I've now got couple of options ;-) so I'm set for parking for sure.....I like the fact this Mariott is in downtown core and near by places I want to see by walking like Parliament Hill, Rideau centre, rideau hall....musuems and memorials......
Also, there is a roof top revolving hotel in Mariott, the one and only in Ottawa -according to their site :) (I'm sure the prices will shock me)
Are there any other places to check out within HULL except Casino?

hEY Teknoluv, great pictures buddy!!! THANKS...Can't wait to go this weekend!!!
Ok now my other question, should I take my car to all these places to visit (e.g. casino, musuems, other places)
or should I take OC TRAnspo (yes i researched this) or should I take the GRAYLINE DOUBLE DECKER (LONDON STYLE OPEN BUS) to all these destinations for $25 for 2 days...with HOP/OFF-ON ABILITY throughout the day
the oc transp is $6per day pass
