i currently have a amd64 3200+ since i dont know the problem with my main since it just randomly shuts off even when heatsinks and everything isnt hot . not 100% sure if i should just scrap and buy a whole new system or just replace and test.
any suggestions/comments would help .

Random shut offs generally are caused by a power supply problem if it's not heat..

sometimes not random shut offs but more of a freeze. happends when i am doing basic's like spreadsheets and on the web as well we more often when i am playing a video game or trying to burn a dvd.

That could be a heat problem, not enough voltage to the cpu, a driver problem, a virus or time for a reinstall.
Has it always done that or is it pretty recent?
First, get MBM (motherboard monitor) and run that and find out what the temps are in your computer. Then google your cpu and find out what the average temps are, or post them here for us to look at. The second one will require you to go into your cmos and fiddle around. Its easy enough to do but not something that should be taken on lightly, plus it will increase your temps. Third, make sure all your drivers (chipset, vid, sound, etc) are up to date. Lastly, when's the last time you reinstalled? Its like rebooting, it fixes all problems :)
