I'm booking a flight from Toronto to Miami and then catching a connecting flight (on a different airline) that departs 1.5 hours after I arrive in Miami. I assume I'll go through U.S. customs when I depart Toronto which should save some time, but is 1.5 hours cutting it too close on the connection?

1.5 hr is fine as you will clear US customs here. Even if your flight departs from another concourse, it should be enough time to clear security again.

What's your back up plan if your Toronto plane arrives late?
Will the connecting (different) airline honour your ticket if you miss their flight?
1.5 hours is sufficient, if everything runs on time.

If the entire itinerary is booked on the same ticket, the ticket will be honored even though the flight you're connecting onto is not the same airline/alliance.

Thanks for the feedback, I booked the flights.
