Looking for a place in Toronto that has a shooting range for beginners who wants to shoot a few rounds. Does anyone know?

Im guessing you dont have a firearms lisence but you want to try out shooting sports.
You are legally allowed to shoot @ a shooting range as long as you are under direct supervision of someone with a firearms lisence (PAL)

Places in ontario arent allowed to openly advertise that they can offer range rental for people to casually stroll in and pop a few rounds. But most do offer "day passes" for you to check out the range. They'll let you pop off a few rounds of the club owned 0.22 pistol under supervision from a range officer or member. If your eager to learn about shooting sports, other members might be nice enough to let you try out their guns. I always let noob's pop a few rounds from my 9mm. Then tease them by giving em my 45cal with extra kick.

But if your looking to just walk in casually, plop down a $50 bill to have some range time, your gonna have a hard time finding that in the GTA. as far as i know there are no places in the GTA that do this. Target shooting centre used to do this but they stopped.

If your a first timer with no lisence call these places and ask "I would like to try out shooting sports. Is it possible for me to get a day pass"
You might not get through the first time b/c the people that run these places are terribly busy... they are volunteers and do it on their own time. Most Shooting ranges are non-profit and run solely by volunteers. So dont take it personally if you get a lack of CSR.

So you're recommending that I get a membership? Do I need to get a firearms license as well? How much would everything cost, membership, PAL?

There used to be one above Union Station...don't know if its still there or not, but its members only and you need a license there.

Caribana is coming up.... :cheesygri

But seriously, go to the range with a buddy who's already a member. Let them sign you in and borrow their firearm/ear muffle to try it out. The licensing process is a PITA in this country, especially if you like handguns. So, try it before you take the $$$ plunge. Ammos aren't cheap either. You can load your own ammo and reuse shells to save money. But 2 - 3 hours of shooting will still cost you $60 - $80. It's not a cheap sport.

its not as expensive as you think.
if you do it the cheap ass way, you coudl get all the lisencing for $200.

500 rnds of 22lr is only $20...
Plinking with a 22 is fun.
a 50 rnd box of reloaded 9mm is about $13...

Can't you bring in ammos and guns from the states? Isn't it a lot cheaper there and there are legal ways to import them right?

I second that. Yonge and Dundas seems to be a pretty popular spot, as well.

I did this last year:

http://sharongunclub.org/intro.html

It's just a quick drive north of the city. Best of all is that it's an outdoor range. The instructor was really great and very informative. You're actually shooting his guns too. The course is great because of the wide variety of guns you get to handle, just to get a feel.

uuhh.. wtf man. Guns and ammo are available in CAnada LEGALLY.
Ammo is cheaper in the states, but not that much.
Importing firearms, parts, and ammo is a very long and tedious process taht wont be worth your time unless your bringing in something ultra cool... Or just Parts.

lol wow some random questions...
you need a broker to get a gun from the USA...it's usually evens out when you go that route...you can pick up cheap guns here if you look hard enough.

I picked up a H&K USP in .40 for $700, around 50% off MRSP

9mm is only $13 a box for reloads.
if your gonna be @ the range every week... reloading equipment will cost you under $100.
Then you can press your own ammo. itll be only a few dollars for every 50rounds you reload. Just gotta pick up the brass...

Or if you have brass you can bring it to reloaders and get a box of 50 rounds for $10. Most shooters just stick to 22 for plinking and then just do a few go's of centrefire.

You have a concealed weapons permit in Canada?

I didnt think the general public could get those, and I have a feeling I'm right and just mis-understanding you.

I thought so.

I wouldnt mind firing off a few shots sometime too. Dont think I'd ever go for my license though. Unless concealed weapons permits were available, and I could keep it in my pants like a gangster.

sounds complicated going to a range out there.

Easy enough in gun loving Alberta... walk in a newbie, learn how to shoot (no extra $ required), spend your $ on pass and ammo, walk out happy. They've got range officers that stay with you if you don't have your PAL. They have range guns from a 22 cal to 9mm to desert eagles with varying prices on ammo (which you have to buy from them if you use the range guns).

Lots of fun!

Any place people can try out other modern weaponry? Hand grenades, Rocket Launchers, etc.

If this is a serious question, the only way you can do this is by going down to a shooting range in the US. There are places where you can fire off pretty much whatever you can think of... assault rifles, RPG's, etc.

There's one just outside of vegas in the desert.... go google it.
