A friend of mine who was originally accepted to york found out today her offers admission was dropped, ONE day after the deadline for acceptances. Is this possible(how can they tell someone they were dropped AFTER this deadline)? cuz shes under the influence that they totally screwed her over since theres no way she can apply for any schools as of July 28th, or is she wrong?
So now she has to figure out what her options are.. so im asking the rfd community for her.
Is it too late to apply for college? on the seneca site it has a huge banner saying "Apply Today," so i figured she has a chance there, but another friend told me that application deadlines were last month.
So, does my friend still have a chance to get into a university or even a college? does anyone know any schools that are still accepting applicants and knows the process they need to go through in order to get into the school. (I was told that she could apply as a mature student by passing a written test? is there still time for this?)
Someone please shed some light on this since we can't call student services until monday! thanks in advance!

Not sure if I understand the problem, but if she really believes they screw her over (I mean, her application) then tell her to contact the ombudsperson ASAP.
Good luck,

Well, I accepted an offer from the uni Im going to this Sept. (King's University College) well beyond the the deadline, I believe 3 weeks or so. No problem. But technically if the deadline passed they don't owe you anything so it's up to them to withdraw the offer. What I would do is find out who is in charge of this and convince them she deserves to go to university this september. I know I would convince admissions at McMaster or Western Ontario, as for york, they have a rep of not giving a *****. >:(
though if SHE ACCEPTED THE OFFER BEFORE THE DEADLINE AND HAS A CONFIRMATION NUMBER TO PROVE IT, then they can't do what they did and this should be an easy fix.

tell her to relax, and wait to call on Monday. I know from experience. I originally accepted acceptance at one university, then changed my mind and decided on another, but I already mailed in my acceptance form to that Ontario university thing. The day after I mailed my letter of acceptance to the new school I got a letter saying that they had cancelled my acceptance since I hadn't responded. I was in a situation where I cancelled my acceptance at one school for another school which cancelled their offer. The next day I called them and they said no problem.
My guess is your friend didn't respond quick enough and the school thought she wasn't interested. If the school says they can't accept her ask her to ask for another program that's available.

The usual case if that you'd apply to multiple universities, up to 3 for no additional charge. So you get offer from 3 uni, or 2, then if 1 change their mind in end, you can still ok the another one. Getting 1 is too risky.

ask her to go and talk with grad/ugrad advisor and if it does not work, ask her to meet the dept chair and talk. It should usually work. But ask her to hurry up !!!

to my understanding if an university accepts you into whatever program they have and you've already accepted it, the university under no circumstance can take retract the offer. You have already accepted it so its their fault.
ie: if you have a 60% highschool avg adn applied to waterloo engineering and the engineering faculty makes a mistake and admits you. you then accept it. Waterloo engineering cannot take back the offer b/c its their fault.

^ every offer you get is conditional, they can and will drop you if you somehow screw up your highschool credit at the end. but if the friend did not go under any of those conditions, they have no right to drop her application, so in that case she'll need to phone in and straighten it out. But if its her own fault for not fulfilling those conditions, then there's nothing to be done.

I'm sure they got a term and agreement, fine print somewhere that covers this. Either way, if a university don't believe someone have high enough mark to get in, chances are, that person wouldn't make through first year if he/she did get in by mistake.

You can apply pretty late at Seneca, provided the program you are trying to get into does not have a waiting list. You can apply until the "last day to add subject to timetable" which is usually 2nd week. But then you'd have to make up all the classes u missed.

her marks have dropped but personally i dont think it dropped enough for york to have withdrew the offer of admission (she had a 86% and dropped down to 78%).
but even if her marks were too low, the 28th was last possible day to notify people whether they were accepted for sure or if their offer was dropped. She was notified on the 29th, its also dated on the letter.
does she have any chance to get re-enrolled? we're gonna go speak to the student services people tmr, but im not sure how i should go about it.
Any tips on how i should appoarch them? can she ask if she can write an exam of some sort to prove she actually belongs there? (last year a friend who didnt get accepted to uoft had his dad make a case for him, which led to uoft making him write some "foriegn student" exam, and now he's at uoft)
any suggestions would be appreciated

Whao, that's a pretty big drop. 8% in her average? What program did she get accepted into?
First check to see if she has to maintain a certain mark. If she was applying for Schulich or something that require a high average, they might need your mark to be above a certain level, so double check that first.
Next call the school on Monday and ask them.

when did she receive her acceptance? was it an unconditonal acceptance?
I know my conditional acceptance was revoked cuz I dropped from a 78% avg to a 77% avg after my provincial exams.

86 -> 78 not big drop? My first app got rejected because I was 0.5% less than the minimum LOL
All university offer is conditional and not finalized until you submitt your final mark, after that, the mark is firm and can't be changed, so that's the mark they look at and and determine if they should let you in or not.

Those damn provincial exams, heard those are hard!!
Yes, in university 0.5% mark would make or break your grade, afterall, marks are kept to 3 decimal digits

I suggest re-reading the conditions of the offer. If you find out that its York's fault then its a simple task of talking to the admissions office to straighten it out.
If it is your friends fault that her marks fell below certain conditions, still talk to admissions. She might still be able to get in depending on the program - if its extremely popular, the chances might not be high.
What i'm curious about is, what about her other uni offers and what program did she apply to?

The acceptance offer very likely included a clause the enabled York to rescind the offer of admittance based on final grades. There are numerous students in the same boat as your friend.
Depending on the program, York is becoming harder and harder to get into so she very well may be SOL. Still, call - and try to determine if your friend has special circumstances that may have impacted their grades.
