I work for a company that banks outsource their cheques to. And everyday, I see items with no encoding on the bottom. Mostly from Arab countries. Take it to your bank and ask them.

it's real.. some countries don't put micr numbers on the bottom.. India, China, etc...

if this is an ebay thing and you are taking it to your bank you better ask your bank how long the hold. Not the hold for when you can get the cash out of your account but the "hold" for the bank to determine if the money order is a fraud ... and don't ship until the fraud recovery date has passed.
