Bleh, taxes kill the deal anyways.

Up until now I would always drive to the US and other parts of canada. Now at over a buck a litre for gas, even that is out.

Sorry for confusion, I had tried using HTML table formatting but it's not working :(

The 1st price is the 30% discount price, the second is the additional $10 off. I hope this make sense. There potentially some better prices advertised but you can get the addition $10 off with this deal.

I agree about the taxes but that's life living in Canada, the US taxes isn't much better for flight travel because of all the "security" fee.

I compared some of WJ's sale prices against AC, and AC came out cheaper on several of the flights (by up to $50 in some cases).
For example, the Honolulu flight is $637 w/tax from Edmonton on WJ - AC can do it for less than $600. You won't be traveling in comfort, but it sure is cheaper.

I've been travelling quite a bit this summer Toronto to AB or BC and it ALWAYS comes out cheaper to go Air Canada - was I ever surprised by that result but it's true -- the deals on AC beat them everytime - I had to shop sometimes but I could always find a much better fair... West Jet is sucking it to people trying to make up for lost profits?? or maybe their just going on their good name because their passenger numbers are way up despite their higher fairs..

That has been my experience as well. I can recall only one time where WJ had a cheaper fare, and it was only by $10. And now, if you can go without checked luggage and the ability to change/cancel your ticket, you can knock up to $24 off a round trip ticket.

Try flying out of Buffalo on Southwest Airlines and you'll disagree about the US security taxes...

WJ may not be cheaper, but the flight is one hell of a lot nicer then AC. If the price is close its an easy decision for me.

Anybody ever notice that everytime WJ introduces a sale, AC comes out matching the next day? Cheap ass AC!

Oh and I find that WJ has the better prices on average (in eastern canada for business traveller times) compared to the same day/time as AC. AC has more flights tho.

I bought tickets last night, read this thread and WestJet wouldn't change it - even though they have a one day fare difference / cancellation policy.

I'm also a bitter potential WestJetter as I spent $600 to fly to Calgary for my final interview, yet never got the job.

If it was within 24 hrs you could have cancelled and only paid $20 no?

that really sucks if they don't even let u cancel within 24 hours.
but i'm glad WJ bought the deal out. I find that AC offers cheap flights to the west coast.

It's $40 now, and they won't do the one day change.

It's $40 now, and they won't do the one day change.

- Change and cancellation guidelines are based on the fare which is being changed or cancelled.Same Day Cancel - , All fares, taxes, and fees may be put into a credit towards a future flight with WestJet, or the guest can pay a $20 CAD/US cancellation fee (plus tax) per itinerary with the remainder refunded back to the credit card. After the day of booking, changes to this fare are subject to a minimum $40.00 CAD/USD change fee (plus tax) and any difference in fare, per person. Name changes are subject to a $40.00 CAD/USD fee (plus tax).
- After the day of booking, all fares, taxes, and fees are non-refundable; however, they may be used as credit towards a future flight with WestJet.Cancellations are subject to a $40.00 CAD/USD cancellation fee (plus tax) per person.
- Credit files are created for the remainder of the funds, and will expire after one year.
- Changes and cancellations are accepted up to 2 hours prior to flight; however, guests who do not show up for a flight do not receive a credit or a refund

So it doesn't go by 24hrs, it goes by same-day. If it was same-day you could have put it all into a credit note or make a complete booking change free of charge. The only way they would charge anything was if you asked for a refund.

If the price is similar I'd take WJ. Mind you, if there is a significant price difference, I'd take the lower cost fare.

I do understand some of AC flights are cheaper... but do I EVER hate that company.

I work at YVR... Sometimes, I am amazed at the way AC treats their own passengers. Not all AC employees are like that... but it's disgusting the ones that do... On average, AC service is awful.

WJ is a good company. Good service, kinda of a funny, amusing company thou. They seem to be a little on prozac. They are always bubbly nice... bouncy... overly happy airline... Has anyone read their name tags for your luggage? There is a little strange story on it, about how your luggage would be so happy if you had you name on it...

"Don't fret, you'll be reunited with your bag soon enough, and we're going to take good care of the both of you. Imagine that little rush when you spy your luggage happily rounding the corner on the corousel. "It's got my name on it," you'll proudly say as you point to the tag. So fill out this tag and make your reunion that much more enjoyable."

WHAT a weird story... :| Haha, Fits WJ perfectly. :D

In all the seriousness about security these days, I'm glad WestJet staff makes it fun to fly. That makes all the difference and can set the tone for your trip.

Yup, agreed. I like the fact that they take great lengths to make your trip fun. :)

When I was comparing prices from my vacation to Montreal from Vancouver (Aug 5 to Aug 21). I noticed the cost of AC versus WJ was matched except for a few instances where AC was $10 cheaper on some dates.

Yeah, that's what I find... It is such a gamble. We don't know if the price is going to go up... or DOWN! :(

When I was buying my flight back to YVR from YUL, I decided to wait a week later before purchase. WS finally puts out a seat sale and it a 100 bucks cheaper. That was just luck.

Last night I checked fares to YOW.
The AC flight from YVR to YOW on Aug 4 was a good deal at $254 for high season. It was also $100 cheaper than anything WS was offering. But I wanted to go on Sunday's red eye flight. The two days of work over this weekend will make up for it. :)

west jet is a great company imo! their attendents n staff make an effort to be casual, FUNNY and courteous - far from the stuffy uplight attendants at most airlines.

last winter my flight was delayed due to weather, they generously offered a transferable $100 off on a future flight. good peeps i say!
