Another great deal at RCSS (or known Nationwide as various other names under Loblaws corporation)
Venturer Audio Video DVD Micro Stereo System with 4.5" TFT LCD Screen that tilts 10% upward or downward and has two separate speakers that sound surprisingly great !! It also has a built-in 40 station preset AM/FM digital tuner and comes with full function remote control.
I listened to a movie which was playing on the display one in store and it really sounded great. This would be a perfect system for the kids room or bedroom or the cottage.
Here is a link to the product pic :
http://www.18002526123.com/findit/mvs6950top.htm
My RCSS only had 3 of these left !!
I looked for the Norcent 27" LCD TV which another poster indicated was on clearance for $599.44 at their RCSS, but my store did not have any ....it seems as though Loblaws is clearing different items at different locations ?

Gave this baby a work out...GREAT NEWS !!
It plays the following formats:
Audio CD, MP3's on CD with full ID3 function, WMA files, VCD, DVD, DVD-+R discs, Divx 3.xx to 5.xx without any problem and various Jpeg files !! It will not play MP3's on DVD-/+r discs :(
Truly amazing for such a compact little system.....the screen is a tad small, but it does the basic job....and it does tilt 10 degrees either up or downward to make viewing more comfortable no matter what your position. The remote button layout is not logical IMO, but it does have all the necessary functions for both FM listening and movie watching.
It freaked me out that it had a little micro fan on the back to keep the component cool....however, it runs fairly quiet.
The sound is absolutely amazing for such a small system and I only had the speakers separated by a foot.....you can extend each speaker out 5 feet so a total separation of about 10 feet
For this price, I highly recommend this micro system for various uses.
Good luck to all in the hunt !!

Since it plays divx, it won't be bad as a standalone divx player that can double as a portable unit too, should the situation arise that you want to take it with you somewhere.
50 bucks for a divx player isnt too bad by itself, the fact that its portable just makes it a bonus.

A 4.5" LCD screen is probably not something you are going to want to have subtitling on when watching a movie and if there is any text displayed in part of a movie, yes it is harder to focus in on it. I find the picture and clarity to be great on the unit I purchased. There is a brightness and color control and the left and right side of the unit ......perhaps the unit you were looking at in-store needed some tweeking ? The sound output is really decent and is supposedly 60 watts total ? (30 w per channel) which is a whole lot "bigger" than the 4.5" screen

Just to clarify, that proprietry A/V patch cord with the 3 separate Video, Audio L-R RCA plugs for connection to another component is both an IN and OUT cable. Just change the function within the controls to toggle between input/output.
On a seperate matter, I have about 200 - 250 widescreen DVD's, I hadn't realized until I unpacked the unit that the LCD is a 16:9 ratio. :)

Just a few things for your reference:
1. This unit is on clearance, so no return or refund.
2. All my anime divx files are not playable. Sorry, I don't know what divx versions are they.
3. XXX Screen is "16x9" but only the center square is for viewing, so your widescreen movies will be only displayed within the center small square.XXX
Correction: Screen Switch (Off/Wide/Normal) located on the right edge of the unit just above the Brightness Control will change the screen size.
4. It's not a TV, so it will not pick up a video signal from your video sender.
5. Due to the screen size and resolution, subtitles are hardly readable.
6. When you turn the volume to about 3/4, the fan at the back will kick in causing pretty annoying noise.

None left at Gloucester Centre Loblaws (Blair & Ogilvie) except display unit missing various cables, remote, etc.
I picked up the last sealed box at the Superstore on Innes Rd. There is now only the display unit left (which did seem to have all the accessories).

It's MONTWARD, but that's OK........let me clarify my attempt to playback MP3's on DVD-R on this micro system....
I archive about 1000 MP3 files on 1 DVD-R disc without putting files into folders, I just keep them as 1000 separate "files"....I have a few DVD players that will play them perfectly and randomly....so it works for me. Perhaps if you "folder" your MP3 files into 3 or 4 folders of not more than around 300 MP3 files per folder it will work......maybe someone who stores their MP3 files on DVD in folders can try this and let us know how that works.........mine just kept reading and reading and reading when I popped my MP3 DVD in

If you looking for a display model here is who had them as of yesterday.
Toronto - Don Mills and Eglinton
Ajax - Kingston
The only problem is either store has no no idea where the boxes for these things are, which would likely have the remote, audio cable, and antenna.
Had I have known that I would not have driven all the way to Ajax from Toronto.
Nonetheless after thinking a bit more about I'm not convinced this is a great deal. Walmart has a Portable Venturer DVD Player for $88 in either black, blue, or white with a 7" LCD screen.

Nonetheless after thinking a bit more about I'm not convinced this is a great deal. Walmart has a Portable Venturer DVD Player for $88 in either black, blue, or white with a 7" LCD screen.
i think the flyer advertised it for $100, but they're doing a rollback or clearance on it.... i saw some clearance signs saying it was $88 too. so i can confirm the price, but not sure if it's nationwide...

Has anyone else successfully played Divx on this machine? In this week's LD flyer, I noticed they're selling brand name Toshiba and Panasonic divx players from $80 to $130!
It does not play DIVX.

Not that I would buy it, because the screen is pretty tiny with such large speakers, but Sam's club sells a similar model at over $90 in grey, so if you like it, it is at a great price
Woah!

The ironic thing is that this thing sounds good...I mean really really good.Considering what this little unit can do,$50 is a steal.I bought the display in N Van,then my neighbor came over and checked it out....and ran out to buy one of the 4 that a previous poster mentioned were left on the 29th.He grabbed the display from Coquitlam by IKEA today....so they're OOS.
I thought it would be junk, but I'm impressed.Mostly by the audio, and the video/remote funtions are a HUGE bonus.
Thanks OP!!!!!!! :D

It's a shame not more people have been able to get DIVX to work on the player. Only 2 persons have tried? 1 successful and 1 not successful. OTOH, even if it is divx capable, is it divx flash-able or upgradeable?

I know what Divx format is and I do know the difference between it and MPG format...... I have some Divx files encoded at various version formats ranging from versions 3.xx to 5.xx........I dont have a huge selection, but what I did have in Divx format played perfectly in the unit I picked up !!
I would never post something unless I had confirmed it myself first.
Can you check your firmware version and report back?
Maybe there are different versions? One plays DIVX one doesn't?
I think I saw it in the manual somewhere.

Not sure how to check the firmware. Anyone found firmware updates for this??
Manufacturer date: April 2005
Venturer MVS6950
DVD Micro System
I tested some more discs and got the following results:
DVD-R with 1 avi -- would not play (BAD DISC message on the control panel)
DVD-R with 3 avi -- would not play (BAD DISC message on panel)
CD-R with 1 avi -- opens disc and displays "No supported files found" on the screen (tried about 5 different discs)
CD-R with jpg files - opens disc, displays some files and then seems to have trouble reading other files "corrupt file" error pops up
CD-R with multiple directories of MP3 files - opens disc and plays no problem
CD-R with VCD movie - opens and plays no problem

In case anyone in Calgary is wanting one, I saw one of these last night in the Coventry store...it was just the head unit and speakers....NO BOX, NO REMOTE, NO MANUAL...nothing else.
It was tagged at $50. It was sitting on a clearance cart in the electronics Dept.
Was about 4 hours ago...
