i wouldn't trust TD products or rebates.

knowing them it's probably a refurb.

TD rebates (OnRebate.com) are great. Fast and reliable. Never had any problems with them.

I just had to write that because I see so many ppl complaining and I thought I should tell others about my experience with TD as well as I have got numerous good deals from TD over the years.

Yes, but with TD it's a hit and miss. YMMV kind of like with FutureShop price matches, Staples online coupon use in store, etc ...

This price is hot ! Forget about upgradability ... Get a used s754 mobo and you have yourself a very capable system for anything at very low cost. By the time C2D (Conroe) becomes mainstream in a year or two, make your next move.

One thing tho ... I believe you also need to purchase a HSF from TD to qualify for the warranty.

isn't the 3400+ 2.2GHz with 1MB cache for $64 a better deal?

Where do you see this on TD's website? I don't see this on the warranty page. (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1700143&Sku=CP2-A64-3300%20C&Tab=7)

Nice, cheap upgrade from the Mobile Sempron I have now..... VERY tempting!

tough choice between chips though....

2.2GHz + 1MB cache
vs.
2.4GHz + 256k cache

I think the 1MB cache unit runs cooler too, yes?

warm with TD rebate
this chip only has 256kb cache
i would pick this one up instead.

go with the 2.2 with 1mb cache and the OC it to 2.4 and there you go!

What is better the 754 or 939 Socket?
Want to upgrade, but need my AGP card and don't want to break the bank.
Looking, there are motherboards to fit my purpose, but what would be better?
The 754 or 939?

Most reviews are showing the cache doing very little.

I hate having to shell out for a fan as well, but the $19.99 90mm unit looks good. ~$100 in total and a $50 rebate. Not bad at all.

I'd get the cheaper, faster one with smaller cache.

If you don't already have a 754 board, don't get one.
Unless you have a bunch of DDR400 RAM you want to reuse, don't get 939.
AM2 is here now and replaces both of them, using cheaper DDR2 and brand new CPUs. NCIX can set you up with a nice AM2 mobo with GeForce6200 video on board for under $80 and a $50 Sempron, $100 A64 or $150-ish X2 is a far better deal.

Can someone explain to me the bus diff. between the 2 cpu's? & how come the 3300+ is faster than the 3400+ Ghz wise?
Thanks

Do you have a link for that mobo? I could find it with the search function on NCIX.

Thanks!

man, I paid close to $200 for my Athlon 64 3000+ 1.5 years ago.

I wonder if I should pay this measily $50 or so for this little upgrade...

Probably not worth it for the small speed increase unless have enough parts for a second computer.

That's right. And it's 1600FSB instead of 2000 - but for $50 it's a steal!

.. bear in mind that another $100 gets you the entry-level Athlon64 X2 dual-core 3500+... but if you want a VERY budget box, the $50 Sempron can't be beat!
