Assuming You are a student these are some good choices
I guess I would suggest BMO with a 0.5% cashback and no annual fees as a good startup:
TD GM Student Visa
Studentawards Inc. MBNA MasterCard
BMO Mosaik MasterCard
Desjardins Student Visa Card (Cool looks)
Citizens Student Visa Card (Oxfam, Amnesty etc.)
RBC Student Visa

bearthemerchant, you are asking a very vague question without providing any real information for people to deterime or suggest what might be the best option for you. What the best option for me may not be the best option for you. What are you looking for in a credit card?
To start, someone who is 19 years old and assuming you have no credit you need to first choose a credit card from a bank/company that suites your needs the best. Are you looking for a rewards card, a no fee card, a low fee card, a low rate card? What are you planning on doing with this card? Balance transfers? cash advances? etc...
2nd you need to take a look at your finances and see if you qualify or seem to qualify for the card that you want. It helps if you have an income or some sort of monetary asset that you can show the bank/company. Generally as a 19 year old, unless you have lots and lots of money in your bank account you will not be offered anything spectacular. Student cards are the easiest to apply for and even though you arent a student I dont think theres a clause for many companies which states you have to be a student to have their card. But be warned that any first card, especially student card, you have will only allow you normally between $500-$1000 credit limit.
You can also explore the option of a secured card if you are desperate for a credit card. While whether or not a secured card builds credit is up for argument here, at least you'll be able to use a credit card and you can obtain one normally by setting aside a lump some of money for investment purposes at a bank and they will normally issue you a card.
After you read the link that henryh posted, post back here if you need anymore information seeing as how the articles previously written provide you with a wealth of information helping you find the "best" credit card for yourself.

If you have a bank account, you should be receiving credit card offers in the mail by now.
I never had to apply with my TD bank account (savings-companion). I don't get any mailed statements but I still received mastercard application forms. I don't think it was a student cc...

I would always suggest people get at least 1 credit card as soon as you can. building your credit is very important and helps you A LOT later on in life.
BUT, dont go crazy on the credit card. use it wisely. keep the limit down to 500-1000 so just incase it does get out of hand you dont have much to worry about. And never miss a minimum payment. missing a minimum payment is the worst thing you can do. and stuff like doubling up a payment if you missed one does not help out the situation.
oh and make sure they have it set to NOT auto increase your card. you shouldnt be using the card to carry a large balance it should be used for building your credit.
