Hi,
I just received a 648 dollar MSP bill just now. What on earth is going on, I havent recieved a MSP bill since I was in school, which was 2 years ago. I sent in a form saying that I should not have to pay my MSP since I'm making under a certain amount and that I'm currently taking school. No MSP bills come after that, so I assume it was alll good that that my MSP relief form has been successfully approved. Now all of sudden I get this humoungous bill, what should I do about it. They said they will find other ways to collect if I dont pay right away, and that they have sent me previous bills about this (I HAVE NOT). i currently reside in BC. whats the best course of action here, I can not afford this right now. Thanks

Are you working now? When did you start working? Did you move in the last 2 years?

We need more info to answer your questions. Alternatively, you could phone MSP (there should be a number on the bill) and find out directly from them what's going on....

if youve been working for 2 years chances are you owe them money (if you havent paid anything while working)

msp is based on prior year income so 2 years ago based on school = NIL msp

but last year based on your 1st year working would be 54 x 12 = 648 (54 is the max)

but to be sure whats going on just call them like previous reply said ... and theyll never make you pay it all in one go .. just make payments

edit: jsut saw the #'s you put up and those look low so never mind, i dont know

you should be fine, as the threshold for MSP full premium assistance is income under $20000.

That said, you have to fill out the premium assistance forms every year if you qualify, so if you didn't do this, that's why you're getting a bill for a full year's premiums. Giving them a call should be able to sort this all out :)

you're "bogged" at work and you only make $12K/yr? something doesn't seem right.
