#1 it looks like the style of animation in the comics
#2 they made it CGI which is a good move! I cannot wait to see this

I can't think of ever seeing a bad movie that had a trailer seprarate to the movie's content.. you know how some trailers just show the best scenes in the movie?

Same goes for Devil Wears Prada btw.. the trailers show basically the first 5 minutes of the movie.. but it leaves the rest to actually watch... It turned out to be great!

I'm proud to say I will go see it.

Ninja Turtles movie in CG comic book style is good enough for me. Plus, they aren't big and chunky looking like in the movies where they were so slow, good move on the CG.

Agreed. I liked the classic turtles much better. I was a big fan back then. I went and saw each of the three movies. Even the comic book and their scary looking eyes look better than these freaking looking eyes. :|

At least they have pupils. They have pure white eyes like Batman in the new cartoon.

The new cartoon also has crap music compared to the original.

Wow, brining back old memories.

I still have my:
- classic Leonardo, Rafael
- changeables Michaelangelo
- classic shredder, casey jones, foot soldier, baxter stockman, bebop
- those talking ones where you pull a strip on it's back
- the spinning ones

OH! and the turtlevan, my fav toy!!!

And so much more. have to scrounge my basement for them!!!

wow...

do you even know what the classic look is?!?!?!? this is much closer to the classic look than the older movies/cartoons were. the movies and cartoons were the bastardized "Archie" version of the turtles. the real turtles were much darker and grittier

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_%28Mirage_comics%29

the image on the right is from their first ever comic book. the only thing they are still doing wrong is the multi-colored bandanas. the original turtles all wore red bandanas

By classic we meant the turtles in the original cartoon series (1989?). They were more "cute" rather than creepy looking like these mutants.

ahh... sorry i was using the standard definition of classic. ;)

i am looking forward to these movies. my brother and I use to collect the Mirage studio comics (my favorite series of the time) until the turtles became pop culture. at that point, Eastman and Laird spent so much time with the Archie comics, cartoons, action figures and movies that they stopped drawing for the original series that they created. then it all went down the tubes (they brought in other artists and writers which just sucked).

so i view the Archie/cartoon TMNT with a certain amount of animosity

Saw the trailer, it feels "off". The Turtles' movement is too slick (but fairly believable, especially their reaction to Mike hitting the dumpster), and they lack personality.

I'll definitely see it Opening Day, hoping for more "independent comic roots" and less "Volleyball Donatello with Pump Action Squirtgun". :)

Wow, I'm so hyped for this movie now.
Favourite cartoon of all time for me. But as has been mentioned so far, I would have made two changes with the turtles in this movie:
1) Made their bodies/shell bigger... it just does not look right, their proportions look too human-like.
2) White eyes... yes, I grew up on the original cartoon as well, but if they were going to go with the sharp, slanted eyes, they should have just ditched the pupils and went with the comic book/current cartoon style.

And I can proudly say, to this day, I still sleep with my Donatello plush. :cheesygri

they're gonna base it on the TMNT comics... rather than the TV.. hence the different look that we're not used to.... its more like the original comics

so thats why they look like that
and thats the source of hwo they're gonna come up with the story and stuff

The trailer has this movie looking promising. Too bad they didn't stick to the original comics by having their bandanas all the same colour, but that would make it too hard to distinguish between the characters--especially since this movie is directed a little more to a younger audience.

I want to see this for sure. From snippets of the cartoon I have caught on TV recently, the TMNT franchise has been suffering lately with bogus story lines. There's only so much that can be done against the Shredder.

Hopefully this movie brings the TMNT back in demand. I can't wait.

I saw the movie today and I really liked it. I'm a big fan of both cartoons, the toys, and the comic books. I even met Peter Laird twice. I'm glad the movie went # 1 in the box office with $25,450,000. I just hope it keeps it up. All the old fans should go see it. I don't understand why some reviews say it's too violent for kids? I don't see it any more violent than The Incredibles? The only bad thing is the movie is way too short, let's hope it makes some cash so we can see a longer sequel.

On a side-note, I enjoyed the movie to a degree. I had pretty high expectations for it, since I absolutely loved the old cartoons and live action movies so in the end, I was a bit disappointed leaving the movie. But now that it had time to sink in, I agree it's a great addition to the series.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 : $133,145,682
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: the Secret of the Ooze 1991 : $78,655,785

I went with a few friends to catch it on opening night, last Friday. It was the first time in months I went to a movie theatre and I must say that it was definitely an enjoyable movie, when you set low expectations for it.
It had a few one-liners and the battle between two particular characters was cool, but aside from that; it certainly wasn't anything epic. Epic was watching the cartoon series at the age of six.

*Spoiler question*

Did it bother anyone else that they didn't explain why Leo had to leave for "leader training"? I know it was to make him a better leader but they didn't say anything about what made him a bad leader?? Did I miss something?? Also, why was Raph mad at Leo if it was Splinter's decision to send Leo off?

*End*

I didn't enjoy the movie as much as you guys did. Too many things that didn't make sense.

VenomZeus
Mar 26th, 2007, 10:44 PM
My opinion to your spoiler questions:

It's not that he was a bad leader, but that was a step to be a better one. It's kind of his "call for adventure" to come back better and stronger than before.

I think Raph was mad because it still comes to Leo's decision accepting Splinter's request. Raph was jealous that leo got to leave and get better while he couldn't do the same. Wasn't Raph mad at Leo from Turtles part 1? It's strange that the animated movie has some continuity from the original films.

Jump
Mar 26th, 2007, 11:47 PM
I'm glad it had some continuity with the movies and not the new recent shows. I mean some of the storyline plots in the new cartoon are a little lame like Shredder being an alien? (mind you, I haven't seen much of the 2003 cartoon so maybe this is actually a cool thing... but hearing they ended up 100 years in the future for all episodes of their final season sounded stupid).

Saw the movie myself on Saturday and I actually wasn't disappointed. They didn't really dumb down the story and dialogue just for kids. They had a few adult jokes in there but they were subtle. Though there were some plot holes, like the ones mentioned above. Nothing too huge though.

I've been playing a little bit of the TMNT Game.

It looks like the game kind of fills the fans in on what happend in between the movie. It explains what Leo did during the training and kind of fills the gap from the movie..

But the game isn't too bad, but the graphics aren't the best in this one (the wii version), but Ubisoft rushed this game.

The game is comic style too, which I thought was a nice touch to a rushed movie based game by ubisoft.

all in all, games based on movies... in general suck the majority of the times, but this one is decent.

BaconMunch
Mar 29th, 2007, 01:13 PM
To tell you the truth, Leonardo didn't seem very much like a leader, no one was really better than anyone else, and besides dialogue, the capabilities of each turtle were not showcased at all. Except Raphael, he seems more like a big brute and not so much a whiny brat from back in the day.

I had the hardest time listening to splinter because the old splinter was so distinct. The movie was very watchable and it was great seeing some continuity. I thought CGI was actually really good and didn't take away from the movie at all.
