"They scooped everyone on the casting of Brandon Routh in Superman Returns, and now Latino Review says The Joker has been cast in the Batman Begins sequel:
We were first to tell the world that Brandon Routh was going to be the new Superman. Now here we are at it again as we just got word from A VERY TRUSTED SOURCE that the offer last night was officially made to Heath Ledger to star as The Joker in the Batman Begins Sequel!
Stay tuned for a possible official announcement."

Damn it! Brokeback Mountain Ledger :| I wouldn't think he would fit the role of joker, but you never know. I don't think Warner Brothers could be that dumb.

What a god awful decision if true... maybe he could play that clown girl that followed the joker on the cartoon series but never the joker himself.
Joker should be someone like Steve Buscemi, Johnny Depp... someone that when you see them in a movie you expect them to be a bit crazy.

he has the receding hairline just like Jack Nicholson in Batman...........
the only problem is he would have to act crazy and zany, not sure if Nicholas Cage could do and the fact that he would cost a lot

oh man mark hammil would be an awesome joker..he has that smile too...and i can just picture him busting out a in lil joker dance as he does in broadway....if anyone has ever watched the movie amadeus..they should get that dude to be the joker...i thought he was awesome as mozart..don't think jim carrey can be a joker since he played the riddler ...and harlequin was the joker's trusty sidekick

dont bash heath ledger yet
sure he has yet to prove that he could do the part
he hasnt dont crazy
but im sure he can........and if they do a little origin story to it.... he's not crazy at first... he was just a no good crook that turned crazy..... so you can see the huge transformation from a normal guy turned to insanity with great contrast hopefully
but look at who they casted for batman... that was perfect...
so why not with the casting of this one
they hit it with michael caine as well
only problem was katie holmes... but what really ruined her was tom cruise
so i think they wouldnt especially try and screw up the franchise that they just got back on track

Heath Ledger... meh.
I think that Jack Nicolson is still a very capable joker.
Sure he's old, but didn't anyone see him in Anger Management? Did he seem like a typical old fart in that?
As for my pick for Joker, Vince Vaughn...

Michael Keaton would be great to play the Joker - if he was about twenty five years younger.

Johnny Depp's the ideal candidate, he has the acting dexterity and pedigree to pull it off. Heath Ledger seems really young for the role...

He's still my second choice after Depp, what a twist it would be to bring him back on the other side.

Actually, as some people mentioned Nick Cage is known for playing crazy or imbalanced characters. He's not a subtle actor.
Face Off (crazy villain)
Con Air (crazy Bruce Willis type redneck)
Leaving Las Vegas (crazy drunk)
Wild at Heart (going through the whole movie with an Elvis accent, wearing a snakeskin jacket)
Lord of War (miscast as an Eastern European arms dealer)
Actually Nick Cage is not the most balanced guy in real life, having a weird Elvis fetish, marrying Lisa Marie Presley in a short lived marriage, etc.
He plays 'crazy' well. But I'd like to see a better actor play the Joker. Jack Nicholson did a great job in the 1989 movie. But he's way too old now, and it would be boring to have him reprise that role.
Johnny Depp would be interesting. Nick Cage would work but would be boring because he always plays 'crazy' roles in a similar way.
Heath Ledger is definitely not the guy to play the Joker. Christian Bale would probably make a good Joker if he wasn't already Batman. At least Katie Holmes won't be in the movie again.

Since Batman Begins dealt with a younger Batman, I'm sure the producers chose a young actor, like Heath Ledger, to play a younger Joker. I'm a little iffy on the selection, as some of you are, and I'm hoping they design Joker well enough to fit into Christopher Nolan's perception of the world of Batman.
When discussing this topic with a friend of mine, we drew up our conclusion on Edward Norton for the role of Joker. Not only does he have the look, but he's played crazy before (ie. Fight Club).

I think Edward Norton would work great actually, I didn't think of him. IMHO he's the best suggestion thus far.

Was really high on Edward Norton as the Clown Prince for awhile, but he's such a perfect choice for the Riddler (if he isn't portrayed as a goofy loser, which he usually is) that I had to take him out.
That said, if Depp was the Riddler to Norton's Joker, it also works really well.

I think Crispin Glover should be the Joker.
I think Glover and Norton would be my top 2 choices to play The Joker. When I saw Glover in the Charlie's Angels movie, I thought he'd make a good Joker. I liked Ledger in The Patriot, but he plays his roles so straight that I find it hard to see him in a psychotic role. Maybe I'm not giving him enough credit as an actor so I would have to see him in the Batman movie before I say anything bad about him.

I think Heath Ledger would make a good Joker, seeing how this is the early days of Batman, all characters are younger versions of what they were in the prior to Batman Begins movies. I don't think the script sucked in the Tim Burton Batman movies but the 2 after that left a lot be desired.

Because some people criticized as being too dark. When I heard that I was like "He is the Dark Knight, right". They wanted something for the little kids, sort of a 1960's batman. Thats why it sunk. :cheesygri

Heath ledger is a true actor, able to totally submerse himself in a roll, it's no wonder he got the job.
It's good to see the producer/director are choosing someone who will actually act... instead of someone who will just do the same stuff as they do in every movie, except in a green wig.

I'm not really a fan of either, but I'd guess that given the "realworld" aspects of begins, that there will be a story behind both items that make sense. Nobody liked the tumbler when it was first shown, but now it is regarded as the best batmobile yet. It's back story what part of what made it cool, because it sounded real.

Movie Marketing 101 - Give the character a new costume and some new toys like the Batpod, in order to sell more merchandising. If Batman had the same costume and same toys, there wouldn't be any new merchandising stuff.

they have harvey dent aka two-face in a setup situation. maybe we'll see him at the end? but i dunt think two villains is a good idea. they did tht in the 3rd and 4th batmans and those were horrible. they did it in the 3rd spiderman and tht was horrible. i say stick to one. especially when tht one is the joker.

This would fall right in line with the casting of CILLIAN MURPHY as Scarecrow for Batman Begins, in which he was terrific in. He's and up and coming Irish actor that appeals to a younger audience. It's also too bad Katie Holmes didn't reprise her role in the sequel, as she had some chemistry with Christian Bale, though it is huge that Gary Oldman, Micheal Caine and Morgan Freeman did come back to reprise their roles.

Same here. When I heard Heath Ledger was going to play the Joker, I was also worried thinking he wouldn't live up to Jack Nicholson's level. Originally, I thought Brokeback Mountain was a one hit wonder in terms of acting performance, but man, he REALLY is a great actor. And he's a great voice actor as well. If I didn't know he was playing the Joker, I would have never guessed it was him by just listening to the trailer. Just the way he said "Let's put a smile to that face" or "Hit me" at the end of the trailer, just goes to show you what a great actor he is.

I don't get why you would watch this movie just because Heath Ledger died after it was done filming. It didn't change anything, or improve the performance, whats there is all there is too it.

Speaking of Iron Man, it definitely set the bar for all summer movies. Will be impresed to see if any movie tops Iron Man this summer for pure entertainment value. If any movie does, I would put my money on Dark Knight.

Harvey Dent is Two-face right? I hope they just develop one-face in this movie and leave the second face for Batman 3 or 4. This series will be much better if they dont cram in all the villians at once. Plus The Joker deserves a movie all to himself.

Yeah, I think that's what they're doing. They have a set number of free tickets that they give out intermittently so it won't get sold out right away. I got a free ticket in Edmonton just to see if I could get one and to see what the ticket looks like, but I won't be going. I'm not big of a fan to drive for 3 hours just to see a movie. As far as I know the regular theater shows are still available for opening night but the IMAX is completely sold out. The theaters in the States sold out of all of their midnight IMAX shows and then added 3:01 AM shows and then sold out of those and added 6:01 AM shows. That's hardcore.

I bet some people here on RFD were not even born when Tim Burton's Batman was first shown in 1989. And Jack Nicholson must got the inspiration for his hammy performance from the 1960's TV Joker who was Caesar Romero.

If they are special advance screening passes that you have I'd really recommend going and picking up your tickets EARLY. By early I don't mean 1 hour. I'm talking early in the day and go to the main desk, pick up your actual hard copy tickets and if they rip your original ticket stub ( The long ones you get for screenings ) MAKE SURE YOU GET THE OTHER HALF. One for keepsake if you care but also because they usually do raffles from the numbers on all the tickets.
You can of course leave once you've gotten your real tickets but make sure you get those 'cause they are on a first come first serve basis and they ALWAYS give way more passes out than they have seats to fill.

just got back from the Imax preview screening. i don't know about anyone else but i was thoroughly entertained! the best big budget movie this year and a great sequel imo. If we previously thought Burton's Joker was great, Nolan's Joker tops that. The movie was fast paced and if there's any negative its that some people may feel it's too long (not me though).
Apparently 4 scenes were shot using the Imax camera. Well worth the extra money if anyone plans on seeing it in Imax.
The crowd at the preview was terrific as well which made it quite enjoyable.
edit: oh and I just have to say that the Imax demo was pure cheese bordering on crap. They really need to take a page out of THX and Pixar's books and learn how to create a proper demo to show off the technology

The reviews are starting to come out, and it sounds pretty bad.
The novelty wears off and the lack of imagination, visual and otherwise, turns into a drag. The Dark Knight is noisy, jumbled, and sadistic. Even its most wondrous vision—Batman’s plunges from skyscrapers, bat-wings snapping open as he glides through the night like a human kite—can’t keep the movie airborne. There’s an anvil attached to that cape. ...Nolan appears to have no clue how to stage or shoot action. He got away with the chopped-up fights in Batman Begins because his hero was a barely glimpsed ninja, coming at villains from all angles in stroboscopic flashes. There are more variables here, which means more opportunities to say “What the f--- just happened?” I defy you to make spatial sense of [it].
- New York Magazine (http://nymag.com/movies/reviews/48514/)
Instead of enjoying the formalized beauty of a fighting discipline we see a lot of flailing movement and bodies hitting the floor like grain sacks. All this ruckus is accompanied by pounding thuds on the soundtrack, with two veteran Hollywood composers (Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard) providing additional bass-heavy stomps in every scene, even when nothing is going on. At times, the movie sounds like two excited mattresses making love in an echo chamber.

90% on RottenTomatoes. I can do selective quotes too:
The Dark Knight is jammed with thorny underworld conspiracies, obscenely oversize tank-cars, and action scenes that teeter madly out of control, all blanketed by the psycho-anarchic musings of a villain so warped he turns crime into a contest of Can you top this?
-Entertainment Weekly (http://http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20212455,00.html)
It's not a perfect movie: I thought there was too much Harvey and not enough Batman, but the Joker was amazing. The non-stop action didn't seem gimmicky though.

Not a chance! I have to disagree in that this is not a bad movie by any stretch. I do agree with this statement:
"There are more variables here, which means more opportunities to say “What the f--- just happened?” I defy you to make spatial sense of [it]."
There were times when I just couldn't get a sense of what was going on during some of the hand-to-hand fight scenes (particularly near the end of the movie)
All this ruckus is accompanied by pounding thuds on the soundtrack,
I thought the soundtrack was perfectly matched. If you want to hear a glimpse of it play the daily batman contest hosted by Oh Henry.

Yeah, I saw it last night down at the Scotia theatre....my buddy and I were saying that his voice was the worst part of the movie, and we were being nitpicky. Batman's costume has changed in virtually every tv show and movie though, its probably the costume with the greatest room for interpretation out of all the comic superhero incarnations.
Do you guys think its worthwhile to watch the IMAX version?
I thought it was worth it....the visuals were amazing. All in all, it was a superb movie, and I'd pay to see it again without question. I'm glad they dumped Katie Holmes for this one...she was a waste in the first movie. As for Heath Ledger, its kinda funny to see in the first page of this thread all the comments about how he wasn't the right person for the role, since he redefined it so richly. He set the bar AWFULLY high for anything to come later.

The line at SilverCity was pretty packed at 6pm (showing was at 7pm). I would suggest an hour and a half earlier. But then again this was for the premier and seats were limited. I would still suggest going early to get a good choice of seats. You don't want to be one of the poor souls stuck at the very front of IMAX which makes everything and everyone stretched vertically.

Then they'll show it with bars on top and bottom, which won't be particularly noticeable on a screen that size. And IMAX is a must if you live near one. This is the first Hollywood movie to be actually partially filmed in IMAX.
For the GTA, Coliseum Mississauga and Colossus Woodbridge IMAX screenings are completely sold out for the weekend. Scotiabank Paramount downtown only has a few left at 8:30am (ugh) and 1:30am.

I don't want to hype something up too much (as it raises your expectations), but with this movie I can. I suggest seeing it in an IMAX theatre as well, I saw it in a crappy theatre, but it was still AWESOME.

What is with batman's voice?
Heath Ledger's performance is NOT oscar worthy. The guy was most likely high on heroin. I wonder if he realized he was in a movie.
What is with all the stupid stereotypes? THis is 2008!
This is a LONG movie with a lot of long winded talking. Where was the action? It just drags on and on.
I read it cost $180 million to make this movie. Sure some of the shots of the skylines where nice and some of the explosions where top notch, but I don't really see where they spent all that money.
I never read the comic book but after seeing this movie I don't think I will.
I used to think that the first batman with Nicholson and Keaton was comical and not serious, now I realize that it was probably the best batman movie now.
I bet most people will love this movie, but give it 6 months from now, and really ask yourself it was the PERFECT movie ever made that some reviewers are drooling all over themselves.

It's true that the first person(s) there was around 10 after 7 or so.
I arrived at 10 not worrying too much where I saw as I'd already seen it twice but the IMAX theater was already 80% filled by that time so we had to settle for aisle seats. There's no slides in the IMAX theaters though. One 5 second Harry Potter teaser ( literally just the name ) and then the Watchmen trailer. Then the movie. The time leading up is people arguing over seats being "saved" and managers coming in WAY too late to help the situation. The theater was so packed people stood up on the sides and in the back and sat on the stairs.
The 3 AM showing people in line looked mighty tired when our show was let out. Can't imagine that.

Well, I think S_J was more blown away that a movie a) expected to break spidey 3's opening weekend record, b) gaining oscar buzz for ledger, and c) gaining oscar buzz for best film, would get such a bad review from one poster. i could understand if the reviewer thought it was mediocre, didnt live up to expectations, and the guy thought it was "ok"...but to say it sucked is a bit far-fetched, with the amazing reviews it's getting. i'd like to hear his thoughts on batman begins :)

Spoiler: I thought it was interesting that the Joker didn't die, but that Two Face did (or did he??). Maybe they realized the Ledger was great as the Joker, so kept him alive for a possible re-appearance. Shame that it will never happen. It would be a tough act for anyone to play the Joker again.

Two things I thought could have changed.
After the car chase scence, I wish the Joker did more damage while fighting batman. You know shoot a bazooka at him, throw a few grenades, cause a lot more damage.
Also, tone down Batmans voice. I see why they're doing it, but it's a little much for me.

Just because YOU expect a Hollywood michael bay explosion fest for a batman movie, it doesn't mean that this one was bad. Watch batman & robin if you want to see that garbage. I could go on about how great this movie was, but you were clearly looking for a 90 minute mindless action movie, which this was not and never was intended to be. It has great moments about the nature of good and evil. Heath ledgers performance was amazing, and the fact that you thought he was a junkie proves it he was playing an utterly insane anarchist villain, and he did it flawlessly. I think eckharts performance was also great, and will probably be overlooked for heath's but it is not to be missed either, and I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in the next film. Maggie Gyllenhaal is also twice the actress that katie holmes is (she almost ruined batman begins) and I think she is more attractive anyways. Opinions are like *******s, everyone has one and you are entitled to yours but don't bash the movie because you were expecting something else. This was the problem with cloverfield too, awesome movie but people were expecting something different so some didn't appreciate it.

I was in the midnight showing. We didn't have any douchebags, but people clapped at the end of each preview, and after Ledger showed up on screen.
And yeah, his voice was a little irritating at times. Like the helmet was too tight around his nose.

Alright!!! I just got back from watching the movie.
I'm not going to argue with people who didn't like the movie cause everybody has their own taste and not everybody will agree. That's what makes us individuals.
Dark Knight ranks up there with Superman (original) and Spiderman 2. The plot was really good and it flows through out the film balancing the moral question of right vs wrong. It ain't no campy comic book movie like Tim Burton's Batman. It's got a much serious and realistic tone like Batman Begins.

Saw it last night too. Great movie. Even though it's long, it never felt like it.
Spoiler:
Spoiler: the Joker is supposed to be Batman's greatest nemesis. In the comics the Joker has multiple opportunities to kill Batman but refuses since they complement each other so well. As for Two-Face, I would have preferred suicide where Dent realizes the error of his ways, but his character didn't add any more to the plot and he would've made a lame villain anyway.
Michael Bay should have added an extra hour onto Transformers full of boring speeches to give it a 94% rotten tomatoes rating. Honestly. If you are there to see a batman movie, you want to see action, not be lulled to sleep. Couldn't they have taken out two face and had more joker? Maggie Gillanhaul?? (WOOF!)
This movie was not a "popcorn flick" where you turn off your brain at the door. It really forces you to think and that's why it's so popular. Curiously, some reviewers hate this movie for the non-stop action.
Worst part of the experience for me wasn't even the movie. I was at the Silvercity in Richmond Hill and *kind of a spoiler* the movie cut out and the lights came back on. Took them about 20 seconds to get it going again, but everyone was PISSED.
Yeah that's a pretty bad time for the film to cut out. :D

Saw it, loved it. I don't like Batman's lower "scary" voice. Supposedly they were doing it to show that Bruce Wayne is different from Batman, when he puts on the costume, he's a different darker person. I thought it was lame. Other then that, it was great. Heath Ledger shouldn't win an Oscar or even be nominated. It was a good performance, at best equal to Jack Nicholson. It's creepy cause he's dead, but nobody would be talking Oscar if he was still alive.

Ledger was frickin good. I sat there fully convinced he was the psycho killer Joker... Nicholson was good at playing the joke part of it, but Ledger nailed the nucking futs part.
Two Face... definitely should come back in the third one... and Interweb rumblings are saying the employee who tried to blackmail Bruce Wayne is Riddler. Lotsa clues to that too.
Overall, this is the darkest superhero movie ever, and may be the best one yet. So damned dark, suspenseful, fulla death/destruction, pessimism, nihilism, yet still works optimistically at the end.

Agreed. I am still absolutely amazed that he pulled off the Joker role so completely well.

For those wondering, sold out online = sold out in theatre.
I was quite disappointed to hear that by 'advanced tickets' Cineplex meant all tickets. Those IMAX seats were sold out a week ago.
But, I did get to see it on a normal screen. Unbelievably good movie. Ledger deserves an Oscar nod whether or not he died. His performance was one of the best I've ever seen - not just in a superhero film, but in film period. Considering he was limited to keeping a psycho within the 14A boundary, I was 100% sold on his insanity. His line delivery was amazing too.
My only gripe with the movie is that I found some of the frame-to-frame cuts weren't clean. For example, during conversations, the characters head positions would visibly change within change within milliseconds mid-conversation. A little annoying, but the pros of the movie far outweigh that small con.
I will definitely try to see it again on IMAX in a week or two.

I'd love to hear what these guys thought of the movie, quoted from the first couple pages of the thread when the cast for the movie was announced....not a personal attack, just curious if their initial impressions are still there.
Heath Ledger... meh.
I think that Jack Nicolson is still a very capable joker.
Sure he's old, but didn't anyone see him in Anger Management? Did he seem like a typical old fart in that?
As for my pick for Joker, Vince Vaughn...
Jokeback Mountain :(
I think a tall and frail actor with personality is needed for this role, and Ledger doesn't have any of those IMO.
FWIW, this movie WAY surpassed my expectations, and other posters are right...its worth it to wait and see it in Imax, or to see it again in that format. Just breathtaking.

Saw it last night. Best movie I've seen in a while. I've never seen any of Heath Ledger's other movies so I don't even know what his regular voice sounds like, but damn he delivered quite a convincing character. Totally believable that Joker could exist in real-life.
I don't know if this is a spoiler so I will put it in a spoiler alert:
I really didn't care for the Two-face part of the movie. I could understand the importance of Harvey Dent in the plot, but to have him turn into a villain so late in the movie (and not really do anything big..just kills a few people) seems a bit like a waste of time.

As someone who actually didn't like Batman Begins all that much, I was really impressed with The Dark Knight. I had my misgivings about Heath Ledger at first but he did a superb job as the Joker. Do I think it was Oscar-worthy, probably not and if he were still alive I don't think there would even be any Oscar talk. But he was fantastic and incredible. And thank god Katie Holmes wasn't in this movie. I think just removing Holmes from the cast and replacing her with Maggie Gyllenhaal raised the integrity of the movie buckets. Christian Bale was fantastic (gotta agree about the deep voice though, it was a little wierd but I understand why it was done) - and now I'm excited to see what T4 has in store now that they showed the preview before TDK. I hope Christian Bale can turn that franchise around like he did for Batman.

its just the same.. some parts of the movie. most of it is like a regular movie

then some 'action' scenes.etc. have the blackened parts replaced with actually video.. so its the whole length of the screen..

I actually gasped at the opening IMAX scene, also at the scene when he jumped off the building in Hong Kong, these scenes in IMAX were truly breath-taking and worth the extra price of the ticket. I loved this movie, to me it was a drama first and superhero movie second whereas I thought Iron Man was the opposite. This is now hands down the best movie I watched in the last couple of years.
In terms of the next movie, I think they should introduce a new villain never before seen in these movies, I vote for Clayface. Even though this is a reboot, I would like to see some fresh villains, R'as Al Gul was perfect for the first. Nolan wrote and directed an amazing movie and Heath's performance was spine-chilling but so fun to watch.

i think bale has signed on for 3 batman movies...pretty sure he's on record as saying that as long as Nolan comes back, he's back for the 3rd.

The movie was good, though a bit on the long side. It never drags, I just find it hard to sit in once place to watch anything for that period of time.
Ledger was good, but I think his performance was grossly exaggerated due to his death. Almost every actory in that movie put in an amazing supporting performance from Micahel Caine, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart and more, I don't think you can distinguish Ledger's alone as "Oscar worthy" as all the media hype goes on about.
The only odd casting was Michael Jai White as the gangster, not a great fit
Some spoiler discussion:
I didn't really like the motivation of the police "backstabbing" Gordon and helping The Joker. It was predictable that one or more police would be dirty since Dent made a point of it on many occasions throughout, but they could have at least scripted it better.
Have them both come out and say "I didn't know that he was going to do that to you" is so awful. This was a mass murdering psycho who successfully killed multiple other law types in the city and had put out a hit on Dent himself as well.

I saw it last night in IMAX at Coliseum Mississauga. Just an amazing film. I say "film" rather than "movie" as it's not a park your brain at the door and enjoy kind of flick. The scenes filmed in IMAX were jaw-dropping. I look forward to the day when we have our first Hollywood movie filmed entirely in IMAX.
Acting was solid across the board. Heath was amazing as everyone has raved about for months but I gotta tip my hat to Aaron Eckhart as Harven Dent. He was really, really good. And despite such great antagonists, Christian Bale more than holds his own. His Batman voice could be a little less growly though. It must have hurt to talk like that.

Spoiler question:
why did batman tell Harvey he was going to save his girlfriend when he went to save twoface? only one of two reasons, one he knew he was going to save twoface, but wanted the commish to make attempts to save him too, or b, the joker was messing with both locations and sent them to the same place?
if batman said to the commish he was going to get the girl, why didn't the commish go to get twoface?

Spoiler answer:
Your questions seem to be a bit messed up.
Joker only told Batman where they are and Gordon heard that in another room. So, I guess the answer is (b): joker told them the opposite location. Joker did not send them to the same place. Batman went to save the girl and the location is Dent's. Gordon went to save Dent and the location is the girl's.

Right after the joker told batman the TWO locations on where to go, the commish asked batman, where are you headed...batman said it was to save the girl...wouldn't batman assume that the commish would go to save harvey? and if so, why did batman go to save harvey at the end?

That is Joker lied. Batman thought he was going to save the girl. But, it was Dent in the location of where Batman thought the girl would be. There is no point for Gordon to go to the same place. Hence, Gordon wanted to save Dent but since Joker lied, the location is where the girl was.

The way it was filmed at least, it appeared that they were trying to show that Rachel's location was actually the same as Dent's

I think it worked out exactly as the Joker wanted, right to the letter.
His entire mantra is "don't let things work out the way people want/expect them to" or "the only good plan is a plan I've farked with completely".
EDIT: forgot to chime in - this is perhaps the best superhero movie ever made (not to be confused with the best movie ever made). Maybe not my favorite ever, but the best. Incredible production quality, great performances (yes, Heath was mind-bogglingly good) and a great story. It was long, but I wanted it to go even longer.

Well, I don't have that impression because
Jokers provided 2 addresses. Batman went to one and Gordon ordered his people went to another one. Both places blew up at the same time. Batman was in one and Gordon was in another one which is also the final scene 2faces kidnapped Gordon's family to.
On the other hand, if they want to keep the girl to be alive in the story, they can. They went to an address that have the building blew up and had 2faces's coin. It does not mean Rachel had to be there.

I saw the film yesterday and it was great overall. But there are three big gripes I have with the movie that don't make sense though. SPOILER below:
- Why in the hell would you put a middle aged detective in the same room as the Joker one of the most dangerous criminals in Gotham? And completely UNCUFFED too WTF?? You would think anyone with any sense would have cuffed his hands and ankles and then let him sit in the interrogation room alone while someone kept watch over him from behind the two-way glass.
- When the Joker takes that detective hostage as expected, when they're both in the office, why doesn't someone take a shot at Joker? He's surrounded from all sides, surely someone could have found an angle from somewhere to shoot Joker in the head or body and disable or kill him.
- When the bomb goes off in the precinct, why is it that only the Joker is left standing untouched while everyone else goes down? And why is it that not one cop out of all the dozens in that room could get up to take a shot at Joker?

(1) I agree.
(2) He just wants ... a phone call. If that could resolve the crisis, in normal practice, police will not take any remote chance that can harm the hostage.
(3) it is comic.
(4) Why batman did not try to inform police that the hostages are bad guys and the bad guys are hostages when they are in the building overlook the harbour? Batman could have used Fox to direct the message to police.

Well, I don't have that impression because
Actually, at first I thought Batman specifically went to save Dent because he's the more important person in the big picture. I don't remember if Batman was surprised to see Dent instead of Rachel though. But I do see the reason the Joker lied about the locations: it would work into his master plan for Dent.
Of course, the lack of a body (and funeral) means Rachel could come back as Catwoman or something (one of nine lives gone.)

I find it hilarious when people get so defensive when someone doesn't agree with their opinion.
Anyways, it was a good movie, but my one gripe was that it became a little excessive. I kept expecting the movie to end right before they would add a new twist to it. Some people like having more to watch, but I felt like it was being dragged on unnecessarily.

the scheming almost seems a little TOO smart for joker. i mean to anticipate all of that. know that batman would be faster..know that he would choose the girl over dent..i don't think he was 'disappointed' when he saw dent..didnt' reallylook. just got him 'out'
btw. does that mean joker knows bruce wayne is batman? (or that he just knew that she was 'his girl' form that night as his penthouse honoring dent)
neways. yah the plot was pretty crazy even for joker. i mean joker's crazy..when things don't go his way. or go his way. he'll just blow up something or kill somebody .. chaos ftw.
either way..questioning whether or not the joker is 'smart' enough for the plot is something no one can really answer..but it gives me solace that if they ever did a movie with the riddler. the plot could be NUTS & make sense & be an awesome third movie :)

To Answer your question :
Batman was given 2 locations one was rachels the other was dents. Joker knowingly swaped locations so that dent's = Rachels and Rachels was dents .
so the whole time that Rachel was thinking to herself that they will save her and dent even knew that in the end he would die. out popped the door and it was batman saving dent. Gordon didn't go into the warehouse because he wasn't fearless enough and was waiting on backup/everything else.
Joker had it planned to the T , that whole Interrogation room Scene/escape was flawless . as well as Joker made his "1 phone call " and was aware that the explosion was coming from the other room and common sense would be he brace himself for it .

Yeah the whole spoiler thing is annoying to highlight everything to read should just label it SPOILER at the title and anyone who comes in here been warned.
to reply to your spoiler
i could have been wrong about the whole thing but if gordon and his team did move in they would have at least been caught by the explosion unless of course they ran late ( possibly due to the corrupt cops who put dent/ racheal in danger in the first place)
and to deep's comment
It is kinda odd that joker not only was able to wire up a warehouse with 10 x more explosives then needed ( 100 barrels to blow up a empty warehouse and possibly kill 2 people) but then a hospital and 2 ferries as well.
joker seemed to have a little bit of Tyler durgen in him as far as having insiders everywhere ready to work his cause.

The marketing campaign for this movie brought a lot of that to the surface. the point of it was an arg designed to be recruited into jokers army. very much like tyler durden's army, where they are willing to do anything for the cause and are very dedicated.

What a god awful decision if true... maybe he could play that clown girl that followed the joker on the cartoon series but never the joker himself.
Joker should be someone like Steve Buscemi, Johnny Depp... someone that when you see them in a movie you expect them to be a bit crazy.
Lol @ this guy.
Dead WRONG!

I just got back from watching it and I LOVE it. Some people seem to say that it dragged too long, but personally, it did not feel that long at all. Not once did I checked my watch and, believe it or not, I actually felt that the movie was too short. There were some scenes that I wished they explored further. The one thing I didn't like though is their use of sonar. Anyway, the script was fantastic. I love the dialogs between Batman and the Joker. For me, it's the script and the dialog that makes this movie seem perfect. And the acting. Very strong performances from all of them especially Ledger, Eckhart, and Oldman.
All in all, a really great movie!

It was a good movie, but I didn't think it was as super great as they say. Lots of good elements in it, including the portrayal of the Joker, but there wasn't a big build/climax to the story.

The movie overall was right between good and great. But not awesome like in IMDB as the #1 movie of all time. It all depends on your taste anyway. Some of the scenes in the Dark Knight was really good. And most of the comedy comes from the Joker. :cheesygri But Overall the movie seemed a little boring at some places and I yawned a few times during the movie so I can't say it's the best movie. But defiantly worth watching at least once for sure. Dont miss out :D

I know this has probably been mentioned but:
*SPOILERS*
When Bruce asked whether the suit was dog-proof, and Fox replied that it was good against cats, was that supposed to be an obvious hint for the next villain? Though I thought Batman Returns was good enough, I wouldn't mind seeing Penguin/Catwoman remade.
Awesome movie. Heath had an amazing Joker laugh. Chilling.
Wow, I remember that part, and didn't understand why Lucius gave that answer...Good call! It's very possible.

Next they need a real ICEMAN... scientist looking dude with the goggles and not as ******** as Arnold was.
Or a crazy DARK Riddler to replace Jim Carey's comedic one (Just like Ledger replacing Nicholson).
Poor Rachel Dawes got pwned.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
Did Batman purposely go after Dent instead of Rachel? Or did Joker just give the locations but obviously the wrong ones?
I watched it twice. Listened carefully. Joker gave the addresses and Batman/Commissioner Gordon went after Rachel/Dent respectively.
However, upon arriving to Batmans location, Dent was there. So I assume Joker purposely said to Batman that Rachel/Dent were at "X" locations when they were actually at the opposite to make Batman go after Dent on purpose knowing he would choose the girl?

That would be correct. The Joker either intentionally or unintentionally gave Batman the wrong addresses. Probably intentional as he likes to play mind-games.

Oops, spoilage.
Correct. Judging by the way the Joker seemed essentially omniscient throughout the movie, I'm assuming he KNEW that Batman could make it to a location, but the police could not, so that Dent (the Joker's pet project) would survive but have the thing he loved most taken from him, apparently assisted by their own friends....part of the descent into madness.

I don't think you listened very well at all. Batman clearly tells Gordon that he's going after Racheal

yea.
Joker switched the adresses. He thought it would make Batman Crazy. (Batman wants to save Rachel but couldn't).
But he realized BAtman didnt go crazy and then went for the finishing blow on Dent.

agreed. Heath made the Joker come right out of the comics. The movie had very good twists and turns and action sequences.
Joker was very realistic for a psychopathe in the comic book world.

Thought it was an alright film, with the twists here and there... as well as the Joker donning Rosa Klebb's footwear. But, I thought the Joker's climax was rather gimmicky. Literally. As if the WB over budgeted the film and decided to burn it on F/X in that sequence.
Better than BB, but X2 (or Ghost World) is still my fave comic book film.

VC-1: Reference!
IMAX: Masterpiece
DOLBY TrueHD: 10/10
I'm not surprised, I really wanted to give this Reference Quality but once again WB continues to disappoint in Audio (post HD DVD).
We need more Titles/Films released in Blu-ray High-Def with IMAX!!!
