Who ink stamps the mail?

Hi guys, I'll try to explain this as best I can.

I recieved a letter in a mail and on the top right corner it was stamped as dec 30, 2005.

Now I should have received this letter before December 1st, 2005 because the contents of it were to inform me of a date for the first week of december.

My question is, is that date stamp done by the post office? Or by the sender?

The sender is the government and they probably use INK STAMPS (50 cents) to save money.

Can anyone verify this for me?

The december 30th date is in red, and then there is black writing on top of it. done by canadapost.

The date stamped on the top right corner is the sender's stamp. On the back of your envelope should be a sort of bar code stamp, that is the post office's.

there is red writing on the front (senders)
there is a black on the front, i'm assuming its canadapost because after the first line it says their website.
on the back there is an orange bar code like you said and then there are TWO dates on it.

So did the letter get sent once, SEP xM without a stamp on it? So the canadapost people shipped it back to the sender, and then the sender sent it off again in december? And then it was canada posts fault for having it come to my door on march 8th?

those ink stamps are generated by machines that companies have in their offices. The date indicates the date that someone put the envelope in the machine to pay the postage.

this means the letter was not mailed til at least the 30th... UNLESS the date in the machine is screwed up, which is not very likely.

the government sent me a letter, which i dont need to disclose to the public. the date in the letter was for the first week of the december, but they stamped the letter as dec 30th. so they sent me a letter to inform me of a date after that date had already past.

for some reason, even though the stamp is dec 30th, i got the letter march 8th.

canadapost may be at fault after that, but the government already messed up enough by not sending the letter in time.

You may need to contact Canada Post for clarification. I don't know what the "SEP xM" or "MR 08M" codes mean.

If i go to my local post office, could they scan the barcode letter and tell me what happened to it?
