Dreamworks Animation has begun work on their big summer animated movie for 2008 - Kung Fu Panda (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0441773/) - with Jack Black as the voice of Po, the titular panda -- with other voices provided by Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, Dustin Hoffman, Lucy Liu...

A lazy, irreverent slacker panda, Po (Voiced by Jack Black), who must somehow become a Kung Fu Master in order to save the Valley of Peace from a villainous snow leopard, Tai Lung. Set in the legendary world of ancient China, this is the story of Po, our unlikely hero, who enters the rigid world of Kung Fu and turning it upside down. Po ultimately becomes a Kung Fu hero by learning that if he believes in himself, he can do anything

Animated movies are pretty good. I liked Madagascar, so I hope this one is good.

Sounds like a ******** premise.
But hey, I liked Over the Hedge and I was skeptical at first, maybe it'll happen with this one too. I'm not overly fond of westernized versions of stuff with Asian themes. The stereotypes just rub off the wrong way ...

Except IRON MAN, May was somewhat disappointing. I saw the Trailer a few weeks ago and I hope it lives up, I love the Cast & Story.

Look like DreamWorks may have another Shrek in their Lot.

Here's a typical RFD review in the spirit of the Forbidden Kingdom thread (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=578853&highlight=forbidden+kingdom):

It sucks just like Forbidden Kingdom - they have yet another quai lo in the lead role and Jackie Chan in only a supporting part. Kung fu movies should only be made in China with all Chinese actors and a Chinese director. American interpretations of Chinese cultural heritage are the real forbidden kingdom!

The movie was okay....not as bad as forbidden kingdom. Don't know why they casted jackie chan. He had like 2 lines through out the whole movie.

The movie is pretty good. Not a bad way to spend a hot summer afternoon. Believe it or not, we actually had to line up for the movie.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good KFP was. Was quite disappointed with Forbidden Kingdom, but KFP made me laugh and had a message that worked well. Jack Black's and Dustin Hoffman's voicework was awesome. However, the rest of the players were wasted (Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogen).

Just got back from seeing this.
Man, what a great movie (never mind a cartoon movie for kids).
Kudos, I thought it was gonna be crap going in but came out amazed.

I bet I'll enjoy this more than the upcoming Pixar robot film (i.e. Johnny 5 + ET = Wall-E).

Take the kids to see this for sure. Kudos to Jack Black for not turning this into an eddie murphy performance. I did not like Forbidden Kingdom but loved this.

Wall-E looks epic! The guys at Pixar are creative genius's. That being said I think I should go download this, the trailer looked great.

David Cross too. None of them had more than a handful of lines. Still a good movie but what a waste.

I liked it but I expected more adult style jokes, like Shrek.

I'll have to watch it again on dvd.

well its not called "kung fu the 5 masters" its about panda and his journey. having those guys cut in on panda's time woulda ruined the movie and made it look like it was shifting focus just to make time pass.

they nailed everything in this movie and have schooled pixar's cars, rattatouille and nemo movies due to its combination of funny jokes but life lessons learned and great voice acting. Perhaps incredibles have made me laugh somewhat but ive never laughed so much at a pixar film ever made as i did in this one.

kudos to dreamworks for topping pixar for now.

I agree, so I wonder why they bothered to cast such big names? One or two arguably bigger than Jack Black himself? (plus I'm a big David Cross fan so I was a little disappointed there were no scene-stealing opportunities :) )

I'm just glad there is a decent movie out for children.

It's nice to let them be kids without all the adult themed flicks that makes them grow up so damn quickly

+1 for Kung Fu Panda being an awesome movie!

IMO, I thought it was much funnier than Harold & Kumar 2. (Then again, I didnt find H&K2 as funny as I had hoped)

harold and kumar was pretty terrible imo.. especially when they had most of the good parts in the trailer.

the kung fu panda trailer didn't give much anyway in their trailer though, so that was good.

Saw this a week ago and really enjoyed it. Great for kids and adults (especially grown men who act like kids).

Good movie, but not great like Shrek I would say. The story was really standard and kid-friendly and not many adult jokes. Voice work by Hoffman and Black was great, but the rest seemed to be cast just for marketing.

Don't think they can milk this franchise like Shrek. WALL-E should win this summer's animation battle.
