Isn't Wii like $150??
no, its estimated at $200 to $250us, but we don't get to find out until Sept.
I'd say you get a Cube. Cheapest and really fun. PS2's are pretty cheap now too if you buy it used.

depends what games you like.
imo... get the Ps2.. has the largest library of games.. and you get to play PS1 games also. to be on the evil side  but a pre-modded PS2.. then you can play Genesis, SNES, and NES games.
or if you have the patience. hold off for the PS3... and you can play PS2 and PS1 games also

Go for the Xbox and mod it...you won't be bored again  , since you mentioned you haven't owned one since the 16-bit era, Sega Genesis...and others have mentioned the NES....if you mod your Xbox or get a modded Xbox then you can play all of those classics and more.... :D ...even though the games may seem old, they are still great...especially if you are a casual gamer.

PS3 isn't cheap.... Kaz Hirai, the Sony Rep, said it best. 599 US dollars.

No includuing modding a console for copied games, it would depend on what you like to play.
If you like nice graphics with complicated games, i'd say PS2 or XBOX.
If you like games you can pick up and play without too much though GAMECUBE.

Another vote for modded xbox. You can hook it up to your home network and watch movies from you computer. Pretty much do anything. If you like FPS, you can't go wrong with Halo online.
If not you could always get a ds lite, mod that as well. Lots of great games out there for the DS lite, which is pretty cheap and legit games are cheap for it as well.

Of the current gen systems, I would get PS2 or XBox first. XBox has better graphics but PS2 has better RPGs.
Gamecube has a far smaller selection of good games. I have all 3 of the above systems. They are all worth getting, depends on how much money you have to spend.

I'm not a fan of the PS2 graphics, but the Gamecube & xbox are a great choice. If you like shooting stuff then xbox all the way, if you like party games and generally easy to get into games then get a Gamecube. Plus you can't beat the price of a new Gamecube.

I say, if its a console, Modded Box as well.
However, I am totally in love with my DS for the last year.

Gamecubes are a great value and the games and controllers will work with the Wii when it comes out so you won't lose your investment on games and controllers. We have a Gamecube and a DS Lite and both are alot of fun for the whole family. My six year old does the Mario and cutesy stuff and I do the Madden 2006 Tiger Woods 2006 stuff.
I disagree that the PS3 is expensive. It will include a Blu-Ray player in it and the cost of the PS3 is about half the cost of a player now so from that perspective alone it will be a reasonable buy. Lots of money but not expensive if that makes sense in this context.

not according to president and ceo of sony ce ken kutaragi:
"Its probably too cheap...If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."

Dreamcast (if you really want cheap gaming).
Xbox is #2 since you have to mod it, put a larger HD, etc.

Jul 13th, 2006, 09:20 PM
why do you say that?
Think of the Gamecube as a Disney/Pixar. Yes it's mainly PG but there are some not so PG games in there as well.
But the Wii and DS got the majority of us "veteran" gamers asking:
WHY DO I PLAY GAMES?
The eventual honest answer will always be: because it's FUN.
And if you really give the Nintendo games an honest chance, they are fun.
I also looked down snottily at them for most of the Gamecube's time, but once I bought more cheap games and played the games, me, my friends and family had a blast. That's pretty much it, really.

gamecube has one of the best games. Resident Evil 4. PS2 has that as well but not as good as the one on the gamecube (graphically speaking).
I don't think that game is for kids.

The Dreamcast is a dead system that is completely unsupported. The second-hand market is all that is available, all games and hardware are out of production. Plus it's an ancient system, newer consoles offer far better graphics and way more games.
Given this, I don't know why several people are recommending the Dreamcast. I guess it's cheapest if you're gonna d/l and burn all your games, but why encourage that when the current 3 systems have hundreds of available games each selling for $20 or less.
Maybe the Dreamcast was great a few years ago, but we're living in 2006.

The fact that the Dreamcast is unsupported doesn't mean much when it comes to having a good time. Isn't that what video games are all about - having fun?
Dreamcast has some of the best and unique titles from it's huge library, where you can have countless hours and hours of fun.

If you're interested in those sega genesis, nintendo, super nintendo, atari, arcade games ex. marvel vs. capcom, street fighter alpha, king of fighters then go for a modified XBOX 1 because there are some emulators & roms for it & you can get a program for it called "XBOX MEDIA CENTER" which plays every media file you throw at it. So I would say it is an awesome all in one console.

I agree also.
Gamecube had resident evil 4 first and also have superiour graphics. I think graphics does play a role, but not as much as the acutally game play.
PS2...Ada Wong side story just takes the win if you were to pick which system to buy it from.
If you have both system, ps2 version is the way to go cuz you get way more gameplay out of it.

Super Mario Strikers. I mean... what else is there?
For good games for 2-4 people, get a Gamecube.
Gathered for good RPGs get a PS2.
