Guess The Film Screenshot Game (Rules on 1st Page).

This is basically a take of a popular game from another forum. I will start it here and see if it takes off. While the quotes game is also fun, its easy to cheat on that one. This one will truly test people.

However, some ground rules have to be established so that we don't get weird, abstract clips that no one gets and stalls the game.

Rules:

1. It has to be a popular film.
It has to be a popular mainstream movie. Don't post a screenshot of some movie that only a few people have ever seen. Obviously this is open to debate, but please use your best discretion. Again here, I assume the majority should be Hollywood or otherwise English movies, except for very well known foreign movies like Crouching tiger hidden dragon etc.

2. Give clues, or post another screen
If nobody gets the film after multiple guesses, post clues and/or another screenshot.

3. It MUST contain a character
Each screen should contain a character, or part of a character. This includes a leg, arm, shirt, etc. Random images of the setting is not allowed, mainly because it's too hard to guess the film just based on a rock, or reflection. BUT, if a 'situation' is a good shot for your screen, use it. and that is left up to you!

4. Be creative!
Keep up the creativity and post screens that are challenging.

BUT

5. Don't make it too hard
Ultimately, don't make the screens too difficult. Post stuff that people will ultimately get. The most fun is posting screens of movies that are popular. You'd be surprised how difficult it can be!

6. Don't post massive image attachments
Most preferable is a clickable imageshack.us thumnail that diverts to a full screen cap. Screen caps are ok if they are something like 640x480 etc. or a standard DVD res. Don't post massive screenshots please.

7. Wait for answer confirmation
Unless you are absolutely sure, most likely people will make intelligent guesses. In such a case, wait for the person who posted the screenshot to confirm, a yes or a no. Only once you have confirmation, continue. Likewise, if you are 100% sure, then by all means, carry the game forward, without needing to wait.

Exactly. Please only guess/play if you intend to play. Don't give an answer and disappear. If you get it right, then we expect you to post a screenie.

And yes, only the winner gets to post the next pic. So if you really want to post that pic that will stump everyone, work hard to guess the pic already up. You win, you post simple.

However, if you are guessing, then PLEASE WAIT for the poster's confirmation. Only post automatically when you know for sure. Otherwise people will not guess!! AND the point is that you take your best shot.


So after the confusion, we will start with pOtEnZa's pic and hopefully continue without many hitches.

I agree, yours was obvious. Settings or scenes without characters should be allowed if they are iconic like maybe a broken Statue of Liberty head on a beach or something. Science fiction images are also pretty iconic and only appear once.

It's not like screenshot of "nth avenue in New York" which has appeared in a gazillion movies.

Ah..well as I had envisioned it, everyone would be taking screencaps from their favourite movies that they owned. I suppose internet caps are not an issue, save for the fact that if there is only 1 cap you can find, and no one gets it, then you have no way to post the next cap as a hint..

Also the quality/resolution is lower. But something is better than nothing I suppose. Well, lets have another shot for this one. That one is very blurry.

i just have the free wmpThis is how I make screen captures from DVDs or AVI files. I’m not saying this is the only way, or the best way, but it’s how I do it…

1. First, go here to download the CCCP codec pack: http://www.cccp-project.net/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Unlike K-Lite’s codec pack, the CCCP codec pack tries to be as lean (unbloated) as possible, while still being able to play most of what you’ll find for download on the internet. It includes Media Player Classic, which is important because it is able to play DVDs. Make sure you uninstall all other video codec packs BEFORE installing the CCCP codec pack.
2. Open Media Player Classic (MPC). Select: View -> Options -> Playback -> Output. Change the DirectShow Video renderer from “Overlay Mixer” to “VMR9 (windowed)”. Click Apply and OK. Close MPC, then re-open it (to make sure the change you made takes effect).
3. Play the video you want to take a screen cap of, and use the playback controls to find the frame you want. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard.
4. Open your image-editor-of-choice. I use Photoshop, but you can use anything you want. Paste the screen cap into the image editor. Crop the image and change the image size so that it’s not too big. Save it as a JPG, and upload it to ImageShack.

Remember to switch the renderer back to Overlay Mixer (because it’s faster) when you’re done. Hope that helps. :)

Have you tried VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) ? Once you have the movie running in VLC, go Video->Snapshot.

I would recommend VLC too. ITs the one stop shop media player. Plays everything, and plays it well (except for some obscure codecs).

I don’t use it as my main video player because of the playback controls (like the seek bar) and because it seems to render a slightly lower quality image. It’s a great program, but I like MPC, CCCP, and its easy to use DirectVobSub better.

I think it's because there's no context so when you're looking at the photos, you don't know where to begin. We've seen sooooooo many films, it's sometimes hard to focus. When I saw the first one, I immediately thought of "it's a gun in a box" but I've seen more than one film with that. Second one is just the back of a young male but now I can go "ah, of course it's when the guy is going through the school hallway." Unless it's a film people have studied a lot, are obsessed with or have seen recently, then more 'obscure' shots will probably be more difficult. But there's nothing wrong with difficult.
