Hey, I'm headin up to Wasaga tomorrow from the Oshawa area, going to be taking the 401 till the 400 then the other roads to wasaga (not sure what they are called).

Anyone know any other routes besides the 407 on how to get there so i won't have to sit in traffic for 2 hours?

Thanks!!

im goign up too, throwing a small beach party at beach 6 right on 37 street

take highway 400 norht to DUNLOP rd
take dunlop road west to angus, at angus make a right (as soon as you see welcome to angus make a right)
then follow that road straght down, once you pass highway 26, thers a bunch of garages with orange roofs you will be entering wasaga, on the west end by beach 7, go all the wya down I think the road is called sunidale or something when at the end (you will see a beckers) make a right and follow mosley to beach 1. Not a bad alternative route

no major shortcuts, most of your time is spent on 401 & 400.

as a note - I was there just this past sunday and I was dissapointed with the garbage on the beach. i must have picked up 15-20 pieces of broken glass from bottles, beer bottles. very bad very bad

This is a little old, but I thought I'd offer my advice...

Try taking 401 to 404, then get off 404 at Davis. Take Davis west, until you come to Hwy 400, now go north on the 400 and that will bypass a bit of mess on the 401/400 interchange.

Hope this helps. This is the route I usually take when I need to go up to Barrie.

This is an old thread but I'm planning on going up on Sunday for the day.

Any new short cuts? Any vouch for the alternate route suggested?

It's gonna be a hot weekend. Will the roads be particularly bad? When's the best time to go/leave?

Thanks in advance!

Take Airport road all the way up. It's a more interesting drive than 400.

hehe.. if we told you shortcuts, then the rest of us would never get there in a timely manner. :)

j/k I won't be a jerk.

Two ways that we take are:

#1 Take 400 to barrie and get off on the bayfield exit. Continue north on bayfield until you drive right out of the city and get to a small village called Elmvale, then take a left on its _only_ intersection to go straight into wasaga, beach area 1.

or

#2 Take Keele street (hywy 6 north) north until highway 9, head west and get onto hywy 27, take that to barrie and keep on going thru to Elmvale....

Or I suppose instead you could continue on hywy 26.. up to you.

Now, these are not "shorter" but they are used for the trips for the long weekends or in the summer..

Gotta think like a woodbridger ;).. everyone uses the 400 series and the main roads to get to the action... so hywy 400, 26, 7, & 90 are the big 4.

Thanks for the tips. I hope that the cottage traffic on Sunday night won't be too bad - maybe we should stop for dinner in Barrie.

Paddle straight up Lake Huron and take a hard left at Georgian Bay.

That's obviously the wrong directions. Wasaga is a U-turn right through Georgian Bay.
