LF: round trip Vancouver-Toronto

Hello,

I am looking for a flight from Vancouver to Toronto and back departing on 4th or 5th of August and coming back on 7th of August. I've checked the prices on Air Canada and West Jet so far and the lowest is $530 that I've found. West jet seems to be even more expensive than AC to my surprize. I've also checked out selloffvacation.com, discounted flights section, and got a price within $20 from AC and West Jet. Are there any other companies/places to buy cheap tickets from? I can use the other dates during the year to visit Toronto if the deal comes, but the one mentioned above is my first preference.

$530 for a roundtrip, YVR-YYZ, is a very good deal, especially in the summer, at $75/barrel oil. The airplane literally burns $100-$120 worth of fuel each way per seat, so they really aren't making much money at all.

I priced various dates in August, YVR-YYZ, for $246 (including taxes) each way. So if you can delay the trip for a couple weeks, you should be able to save ~$40. And AC gives you an additional $24 discount if you decline checked baggage service, or the ability to cancel/change your ticket.

I was just went to Vancouver flying WestJet, drove to Seattle and back to TO with Air Canada last week and prices were cheaper then. August is close to peak season and from what I heard June was even lower priced. WestJet is more expensive than Air Canada because its planes have a satellite TV in each seat. Seattle to TO with Vancouver transit Air Canada price was about $200 taxes included and it was still lower than WestJet's TO to Vancouver price. ;)

Indeed, travelling between Vancouver and TO is not cheap. It does not get much below $500 for the round trip.
Slomo, I cannot check June's prices now, but 200 one way including taxes is quite good. All of the tickets I've seen so far for August-December are 200 without taxes (add another $60-80 for each direction).

What is considered non-season then? I thought Oct-Nov should be cheap, but there's no difference.

That's about right. I found some flights around $507 for August. It'd be great to find something cheaper. I live in Vancouver now, but have lots of friends in TO. I was hoping to find some last deal prices... but not yet.

If they spend $100-$120 each way on fuel only, then it only makes sence to sell last second tickets for slightly higher than that price. So, with taxes it should be 200/direction. That'd be great to find. Have you guys seen any crazy discounts like that before, even with other destinations?

I've heard some rumors of great vacation deals (last second) with hotel for three days about 300!!! there and back. I don't know if that's true and possible looking at all these prices.

The flights were Westjet's TO - Vancouver: 279.99, AC's Seattle - Vancouver - TO: $200.66. They were actually 1st and 2nd week of July (not in June) and late arrival flights (arrived close to midnight), and as far as I can tell only about 60% full. So those empty seats are available and might have been offered via last minute deals that may even be cheaper than what I had paid. I don't know where I can get last minute deals, tho. It is also not always available since the seats could have been sold out, so if you had to be there at a specific date, you cannot always rely on these kind of deals.

AFAIK, peak seasons are Christmas, New Year, spring break, school out and back to school dates. There may be others. ;)

Try harmony airways last minute deals. Of all the people I've traveled with to Vancouver, I like them the best. And frequently, their last minute deals are tops too.

That's another good option. However, it looks like there's no direct flight from Vancouver to TO and back. There's one connection between Vancouver and London (Ontario) for $436 round trip. If someone will pick me up it'll be around 60$ in gas, which is around $500 at the end. Quite troublesome, but a good option to know about.

Anyone heard info about hopping on a plane last second? I've read somewhere on the internet that it's possible to come to the airport and wait in line until there's a spot left. They can give it out for cheap.

That won't happen. Airfares tend to rise as you approach the departure date/time. They'd rather take the risk of flying with an empty seat for the opportunity to gouge a last minute business traveller.

I'm also looking to fly the same route on the same weekend as you, and it looks like it'll cost $597 tax incl on AC. The fare can be reduced by $24 if you're willing to go without checked bags and the ability to make changes to the ticket.

Ehh, does not sound too promiseing. THe only thing though is that I am not flying there for business and do not have to go on that date. However, this day has some positive and attractive events for me. I think there's not much to search any longer. I'll have to make a decision pretty soon.
