I traded in my previous car for my current new car and I have got an extra set of wheels and tires from the previous car, but the size is a bit smaller than the current one needs: 205/55/16 Vs 205/60/16. I wonder if I could use my extra set of tires and wheels in the winter for my new car without screwing up the speedometer and auto transmission gear change machenism. The difference in diameter of the wheels is about 0.807 inch, thanks!

Nope. Your speedometer will be off but not by that much.

Your speedo will be 3.1% too fast. I think I read somewhere that you shouldnt use tires more than 2% difference

You'll also have to make sure if the old wheels have the right offset, and bolt pattern, and bore for your new car.
The sizing difference of your old tires is not too serious and is workable.
