For some reason, my DVD burner will not pick up blank dual layer DVDs anymore. I've burned them successfully in the past (same brand, etc), and now it will still pick up all other CDs and DVDs (including DLs with data), but for some reason, it won't pick up blank DLs.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try?

I have a HP DVD Writer 640b. I've tried the latest firmware upgrade with no luck.
I also have had issues with my primary and secondary IDE controllers showing up under unknown in my device manager, as well as a couple of ATA Storage Controllers. They've been like this for a while now, and I haven't been able to fix them. A few people that I talked to said that this was likely my issue, but I was able to burn DLs successfully in the past even though the configurations I mentioned above were screwed up.
I would like to be able to fix these issues as well though, if anyone has any idea.
Thanks

What brand are you burning? If it's not Verbatim then you're almost certainly burning Ritek, and Ritek's performance is incredibly variable. One batch might work, but most batches will perform horribly, or just not work at all. I've had several Ritek DVD+RDL discs that would never burn, regardless of drive or configuration.

That's exactly what happened to me. I had two Ridatas and neither one would burn with either Nero or Cheetah Burner. I then tried Verbatim and it was just fine.

Fujifilm, so it seems like they are probably Ritek. When you do get a bad batch, what do you do?

I found two codes for the Fujifilm DLs, one Ritek and one Ricoh. Doesn't look like that Ritek is the problem, seems like it is probably Ricoh, based on what I found below:
This is from a HP page:
HP DVD Writer - Does the HP dvd640 Support Ricoh Double Layer Media?
ISSUE:
Does the dvd640 (HP DVD Writer dvd640c) support Ricoh Double Layer (8.5 GB) media?
SOLUTION:
At this time this drive does NOT support these discs and using them should not be attempted. HP is working to provide a firmware update to address this issue.

As far as I can tell, your drive is a rebadged GWA-4162B. I find it extremely odd that the drive would not have support for Ricoh DVD+R DL; it's probably the second best supported DVD+R DL. I don't know what to tell you :|

Sounds like HP edited the firmware a bit...
In any case, I would return the discs that failed to where you bought them. It's Fuji's obligation to make sure their media is compatible, and not YOUR obligation. If the store you bought them from won't take them back, then return them to Fuji directly.
