Alright, I personally hate paypal however my friend wants to buy an XBOX360 off some guy that said he would upgrade the firmware to play backups and give him the guides t o make his own backups and ****.. anywho, the guy wants 400USD Shipped from the usa, its a lightly used premium console w/ the upgraded firmware (on a samsung drive apparently). pics were included..
anyways, MY question is (which I will tell my friend). Can people sign up to paypal with a fake alias/address and then just send money to their main paypal account and deposit that into their bank? I got ripped off quite a bit and got nothing back before... also, can paypal do anything if the amount is high enough? Basically what happens if my friend gets ripped off... the guy just made a paypal account because my friend didn't want to use western union or emt.. so kind of fishy but the guy did provide pics and everything..
Can you send any amount / receive any amount of money if you just open a paypal account right there on the spot?
Thanks for any help given.

Never assume Paypal will help you with anything at all. I'm pretty sure its possible to make an account with a fake name, etc, and given the thousands or horrifying reviews floating around, your buddy should probably avoid it. He should be able to sort out an alternate form of payment if the other guy wants to sell it. If he won't deal in anything but paypal, beware.

lol, good one :D
I use paypal in conjunction with my bank but I will be closing that once my last auction on ebay is done. according to www.paypalsucks.com...
apparently (according to paypalsucks) http://www.995merchantaccounts.com/ is a good one to use and it easily (apparently) integrates with you're ebay account very easily. After I close my paypal account (including credit card and bank account on them) I am going to go with 995merchantaccounts.com
Can anything be done if you buy an item off an unverified user?

 , is $0.00 a lot of money to you? :cheesygri
EDIT: It looks like there is a lot of dirt on it. I am only going to keep small amounts of money in there (at most $40 CDN).

So once again, if my friend just pays for the 360 (or anything) via his bank account and the guy runs off he's **** out of luck?

I would think so. PayPal seems to have a reputation for being ineffective when dealing with those situations.

Why not just buy an XBox locally and get it hacked? I can understand dealing with ebay/paypal/customs for stuff that you can't get good prices locally with, but with that much money, I'd play it safe.
I didn't even know that the 360 was hacked yet.
