View Full Version : Budget Car Rental Expensier at Airport?

I asked for a 4-day car rental at Budget at Dufferin & Yorkdale mall, the price quoted was $225. But a day later they had rented all the cars and I was left holding the bag.

In desperation I went to Budget at Pearson airport, the only place in the city where a Budget still had vehicles, and they quoted me a whopping $369 for the same 4-days.

Yeah right, no wonder they still had cars left-over.... not enough idiots to rent them out from them

Actually, thats the difference between corporate vs franchised operations. Go with corps, you will get the same quote (except airport). I work for Enterprise and we honour quotes (except Airport!)

Rentals are always more expensive at airports, with all companies. Probably something to do with higher rents...or maybe just that they know they can get away with it there.

Exactly. Rentals are ALWAYS more expensive at Airport Locations.

I'm currently on a monthly rental in Chicago and at O'hare, the rental was 700+/month while I took a cab 45 minutes outside the city and rented the same car for

500$.

Not necessarily. In most cases, yes, it is more expensive at an airport location. But there have been a few occasions which I got cheaper rates at the airport, even with the 15-18% CFR added.

I wrote an article about this a while back. Airports charge convenience fees and the such.

I have to refresh this, but it will give you some ideas on what to expect. I too love Avis, but National isn't bad.

In my point of view Avis is the best car rental company. The rate is fair, not too expensive like Hertz. New and lots of car choices in the fleet unlike some smaller rental agencies. Not picky about minor damages for its cars, Enterprise go over the car with mag. glass. Avis also offer unlimited KM with ability to drive into US.
In many of my rentals, Hertz had the lower price. In the US, they also carry a wider range of cars. It's not uncommon to see subarus, jaguars, toyotas, infinitis in the #1 aisle. Most of the time I didn't end up driving the car in the class that I reserved (full size). That being said, I haven't been disappointed the few times that I had to rent from Avis.

It is common sense that almost everything is more expensive in the airport.

Hertz charges per kilometer after a small number of purchased km.

In the long run it is more costly, if you are leaving the city that is.

Not for me. Most of their rates are unlimited km. Limited km applies mostly to specialty vehicles, cargo vans and trucks.

That is interesting, because I actually went through and tried them out for 2 week and 1 month rentals. I never got unlimited.

Perhaps it depends on the location?
