I use my clean fingernail to put an x in it - hurts like crazy, but makes the itch stop, anyway. ;) We just bought Band-Aid spray, it is an anti-itch spray and analgesic - you get it from the drugstore. It's in a small 56 gram spray bottle; lots in there though. Shoppers Drug Mart had it on sale in a bin for $2, but I imagine reg. price is more pricey. Good luck! For a cheap alternative, calamine lotion [pink] is good stuff to stop the itching. You can also try a paste of baking soda and water, may help, and can't hurt. :) I know for wasp stings it works VERY well to stop the throbbing pain. Or you can use meat tenderizer and water paste to do the same thing. Some websites say to use baking soda and vinegar as a paste, too. Leave on for 30 min. max on a bee sting, or it can irritate, they say.

I think I've become immune to mosquitos or something. I can get like 50 bites a nite and wake up the next morning and they are already practically gone.
That sucks for you though. Just remember it'll be gone before ya know it :D

Go to Walmart and buy a tube of Afterbite, it's like $2.99.
I always use that stuff, it smells horrid, (due to the ammonia in it) but it works so damn well, I love it.

I'll give Afterbite a fourth vote. It really does stink, but it works very well. There are certain spots you may not want to use it on. I just got back from the cottage and I got bit just below my eyebrow, pretty sure my eyes won't agree with the Afterbite. But on arms, legs, etc.. it works great.

i used vinegar again today even last night. im so upset i cant even work out right now. I cant even do anything...im typing with my right index finger as thats all im able to move. it hurts 100x more when i move the arms...i just soaked them under hot water, which actually does shrink it down fast.
Im so pissed off... i got one bite on the leg yesterday afternoon right before i was heading to a dinner at my sisters. they were planning to have a fire out in the backyard after, and roast marshmallows...but i told them i couldnt as theres too many mosquitos out...and i react badly. But nooo they kept bugging me, saying how the mosq. dont like heat and will keep away from the fire. i really didnt want to go out...but they kept bugging me. So whatever i went out and what do you know 2 mins later im swatting all these bugs away, and i gave up i had to go into the house. two more bits, one on the left wrist and right hand. Can i get it in any better spots? geez

I swell pretty bad from bites, could you possibly be allergic to them? What I do now is right after a bite, clean the area with rubbing alchohol and then use Aveeno anti-itch stuff. Works well for me.
After-Bite is good for throwing in a pocket if going on walks and stuff.

Take an antihistimine like Claritin or Benadryl. It'll help with the swelling.

there is a Chinese product which is good for relieving and maybe preventing insect bites.
I think that it is called White Flower Oil-
Chinese Cantonese would say "Pak Fah Yeow".
Available at a Chinese medecine/herbal store or online.
http://www.wrc.net/store/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=506
http://www.itmonline.org/jintu/whiteflower.htm
http://biopink.sgbox.com/whitefloweroil.html
http://www.jcm.co.uk/product.php?catID=198&opener=0-522-198&productID=313
White Flower Oil provides quick relief to discomfort due to:
Insect bites and stings
Stuffy nose
Sinus headaches
You should show the clerk at the Chinese medecine store your insect bites and see what products he can offer you.
Also you can use citronella for insect repellant.
maybe available at garden centers, health food stores, pharmacies, etc

Mosquito bites: What is a normal skin reaction?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By MayoClinic.com
More on this in Health & Fitness
Medical Encyclopedia
Q: When a mosquito bites me, I get big, nickel-sized welts. Is this normal?
Claire/Pennsylvania
A: A "normal" reaction to a mosquito bite can vary. Some people will have only a small area of redness, swelling and itching that typically goes away within 24 hours. Others may have a larger area of itching — sometimes the size of a grapefruit in highly sensitive individuals — that can last for several days.
In some cases, hypersensitivity to mosquito bites may be associated with an underlying medical condition, such as chronic lymphocytic lymphoma or certain viral infections, such as Epstein-Barr virus. However, this is uncommon.
Rarely, an individual may have a serious reaction to mosquito bites, which results in swelling in the throat, hives and wheezing. This life-threatening condition (anaphylaxis) requires immediate medical attention.
If you're sensitive to mosquito bites, the best advice is to avoid getting bitten. Follow these common-sense precautions:
Avoid areas, such as marshes, where mosquito activity is highest.
Avoid going outside when mosquitoes are most active, such as at dusk and dawn and after rain.
Wear protective clothing when outside.
Use insect repellent.
To relieve the itching of a bite, apply a lotion containing calamine. If you have a large local reaction, consider taking an over-the-counter antihistamine, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to see if it helps. Consult your doctor if you're concerned about the severity of your reaction.

take a cloth> turn the tap on to hot water> wait for the water to get really hot> wet cloth > place cloth on bite. Repeat a couple of times when the cloth isn't hot enough.
I do it all the time and it stops the iching and prevents it from swelling up. Don't know if this is a good method to treat bites but it works for me.

I think I agree. The symptoms sound too severe for a normal reaction.

Best solution - DON'T SCRATCH IT. If you scratch, it will just get worse.. swell up and itch even more..

I had a misquito bite on the soul of my foot to the side a little bit, so every step I took, the shoe would rub against the skin, making it itch bad. The skin got hard and I used calamine lotion which did not work at all.

Isn't that tube of Afterbite just a temporary solution that relieves the itching? My method KILLS the mosquito bite.... BURN IT. You have to be good at it or you'll scar. I prefer one of those halogen desk lamps when it's really hot, but when i'm on the road, a cigarette lighter will have to do. Just keep tapping whatever heatsource on the mosquito bite untill the itch stops. If you're brave enough, leave the heat source on for a full second or two untill it burns. I do this to all mosquito bites and it stops the itching IMMEDIATELY and PERMANENTLY!!! Try at own risk.
