So my auction ended. Emailed the winning bidder about the payment details and that son of a ***** replied:

Hello, i am very happy to win this action when i confirmed that am the winning biddier, its like heaven should fall down. At least this will keep my dignity as a good father as and make me fulfil my promise i have promised to get this item for my grandson overthere in Afica (Nigeria) as a birthday gift, and here in ebay am been given the chance offer to buy the item. Its indeed great. Please what i just want u to do for me is to help me findout the posting cost to Nigeria and reply me with the posting cost then i will pay u extra $10 for the stress u might have gone through. payment will made via paypal account please i will be waiting for ur reply as the birthday is some days ahead.
REGARDS.

NOTE: NOW I WILL CONTACT EBAY TO DISCONNET ME AS I HAVE NOTHING TO DO ANYMORE ON EBAY, I JUST CAME TO EBAY TO BUY THIS ITEM FOR MY GRANDSON OVERTHERE IN NIGERIA AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT AND I HAVE NOTHING TO DO ANYMORE HERE IN EBAY, SO IF U SEE THAT AM NO MORE REGISTERED MEMBER IN EBAY, DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED OR PISSED OFF COS I WILL ASK THEM TO DISCONNECT MY ACCOUNT ANYTIME FROM NOW, BUT I PROMISED U, I WILL BUY AND PAY FOR IT YOUR ITEM....OK?!!!

What am I supposed to do next? This is the first time I've encountered this. I don't want to relist the item, so is there anything I should know before send an offer to the second winning bidder? And what other options do I have?

I'm pretty sure Ebay looks down on people offering to the 2nd bidder. Good news is, if he disconnects his account just file a non bidder payment and get your money back for the auction. At least I think that is how it works.

Nice to see the spelling comming along in the scam though.

edit: Next time you post, make sure you put, Will not ship to Nigeria. Heck just put will only ship to the U.S. and Canada.

Ya...this was the only auction that I've included world wide shipping. How lucky can I get...?

it never fails to amaze me that these people still try these scams. and whats even more amazing is that some people still fall for them.

Seen it... report to eBay, file non-paying and they'll credit you. Your loss - couple days.

you should not only state that its canada and US only but also restrict other bids since people ignore the fact that you say canada and us only all the time. plus those nigerians bid on anything and everything.

though it doesnt stop all scams from happening, it does help reduce it. many scammers now make an account from ebay.ca/com so the bidder will be from US/canada and will want to ship it to nigeria.

ive used ebay only a few times to sell stuff, but how do you know this is a scam? If money is sent into your paypal acct before you ship, then youre safe, no?

Email the buyer and tell him that you will use an escrow service of YOUR choosing.

Sometimes that's not the case. They would want to pay you by personal cheque, etc...and even with paypal, they will file a chargeback to get their money back.

Haha, and thanks for all the input. I think I'll play stupid with him.

Huh? Ebay gives you a link to offer it to the 2nd highest bidder ("Second Chance Offer"). Have you sold anything on Ebay before?

I would offer it to the 2nd highest bidder or complain to Ebay to get your listing fees back.
