earwig problem

did i spell that right?

anyways. my sister moved out so i just took over her room. over the past few days ive noticed an earwig a day, or perhaps two. she came back to visit, and told me for the past years shes lived her she has had at least 3 a week. and then some.

when i have time ill fill up whatever holes near the window.

any other solutions?
or if you know what may cause the problem?

the earwigs are pretty much only found on the wall which the window is on.

Man, those things are also creepy; when I was a kid we had them in our house; leave bowls of water around and see them floating in them the next day - not kidding; they seemed to be drawn to water. They could squeeze into the tightest of spaces, including a book tightly wedged into a book shelf - I got a book out for my Mom, flipped it open, and a freakin' earwig crawled right out. They used to LOVE the [damp] hamper. ICK! The worst was when my sister found one in her cheerios bowl when she had just poured the cereal. She poured the milk on there, and one of the da*n things came scampering up to the surface. To this day - around 25 years later - I still always look at my cheerios when I pour them.

Good luck; from what I recall as a child, they were hard to get rid of.

Get some lawn care company to spray pesticides around the outside of your house. That should keep them out for the summer.

I've had that happen to me, except it was a cockroach!

It could very well be the window, but be sure to check other areas of the room(s), like around the baseboard. I don't know how, but at one point behind a (light) dresser in the corner of my room the floor had seperated from the wall by over half an inch. I noticed this because of all the Silverfish that seemed to be getting into my room. I filled that gap up and haven't had a problem since.

Lots of times, insects come through the crack between the door and door frame. So if there's a basement door you don't need, tape up the doorframe and it may help.

There's also that insecticide powder you can buy at Home Depot, you just put it around the perimeter of your home and that keeps many insects out.

The way we got rid of our earwigs years ago was to put some water into a bowl, mix some mr clean dish soap in it and leave it in the flower bed *or wherever*. They crawl in and have a reaction with the soap or something and eventually youll have a bowl full of dead earwigs. Wash out and repeat. :0)

Sounds like a good idea! And it can't hurt to try it in rooms, in the hopes they find it before they find YOU! :razz:

To this day - around 25 years later - I still always look at my cheerios when I pour them.
Years ago my sister got an earwig in the straw she used to drink her soda. She 'discovered' the bug in the worst possible way. :( Now I always check my straws.
