It was on sale a few weeks ago at The Source, and now it's even cheaper.

No voice direction and super small screen. Not sure how usable it is.

yeah... the screen is small, but the garmin website says that it has voice prompts through a built in speaker.

I wonder if TD stores have this in stock.

Yes, it DOES have the voice prompt. Several weeks ago, FS sell it for $310 and sold out very quickly.

The i3 (and i2 & i5) all have 'turn by turn' voice direction.

I have the i2 (b&w screen) & it is fantastic. You do not look at the screen while you are driving anyway - so the main thing you want is voice turn by turn directions which the i2, i3 and i5 all give you.

These units are the size of a baseball - mine sits in my former ashtray with an optional windshield mount external antenna providing it satellite signals and power from my 12v cigarette lighter jack.

They come with a removable windshield mount and a non-removable dashboard mount.

Well worth the money if you do any out of town driving. You and your spouse will appreciate the GPS if you have to drive and your spouse is 'map illiterate'.

If you are a 'leadfoot' they can help as you can load 'Point Of Interest' (POI) locations in them. I have mine loaded with the red light photo radar camera locations in Winnipeg. I get a 'boing' a few hundred feet before the light. Not that I need it - I'm well past the leadfoot days.

Most the reviews are positive.. and the price is really good, seeing that it comes with a lot of pre-programmed maps.

Some reviews: CNet (http://reviews.cnet.com/Garmin_StreetPilot_i3/4505-3430_7-31468216-2.html?tag=nav)

I might pick it up due to a road-trip in the US soon.

I have this unit and I love it. Even the screen is small but I still love it because of several reasons. I can take it with me and not left it in the car anytime I want. The unit is not cover my visual area of my windshield when I am driving (btw, I mod the mounting a little and not using the original dash board dish so that the distance between the unit and myself not too far away and for sure not over the air bag inflate area). It re-calculate the route very fast (ususally within 15 secs.). Also, it does have a voice direction.

BTW, you do need DVD-ROM drive to load the map to the unit unless it is i5 because i5 is preloaded all North America map inside the unit. The reason I choose i3 because i3 is much cheaper and the price differece between i3 and i5 is larger than I purchse the bigger memory size of TF card.

Another Thumbs up from me about Garmin products.
I've got a Garmin Ique 3600 PDA GPS, and it rocks. Really useful when driving around strange territory. Voice by voice is wha'ts important as you won't look at the screen while driving. Just a quick glance to see where the arrow is at and you are fine.

I was able to PM Cdn Tire on this. I tried at the Regent, Winnipeg location - no go - but at the St. James location it worked.

I got it for the matched price of $330.57 (including the taxes but excluding the shipping charge) AND used my AtHome gift cards so my net is $264.42.

PLUS I got $3.90 base Cdn Tire money and $28.00 price match Cdn tire money.

So really it cost me $232.52 - such a deal!!

Thanks OP!!

You can get the POI (points of interest) loader from the garmin site and sync them all with the device via USB. I am not 100% sure that it works with the i3, but that's what I do with my c330.

that should work fine.

I've got the i3 as well (birthday present, so it was free :D ) and absolutely love it. Screen is small, but the maps are displayed in such a way that you dont' need anything bigger.
If there was something I'd wish for in this model, it would be a way to pan the map (ie move left/right/up/down). If there is, please let me know.

You can also use Mapsource - a free mapping program for Garmin users to find and mark the locations & then download them (I think max 500) into your gps.

If you prefer to use Google Earth - you can export the kmz/kml file from Google Earth to a GPSU Utility Program (http://www.gpsu.co.uk/index.html) that converts the kml/kmz file to a Garmin GDB file which then goes into Mapsource & from there to the GPS. SOunds confusing but once you do it - its easy.

FWIW:

I picked up the i3 and I love it. It's small, but you can still see the screen in the sunlight, and it has voice prompts etc. I like how it's small and operates on 2 x AA batteries, b/c you can easily take it out of the car and put it in a digital camera bag for transport (which is what I do :))

The Source has the Garmin i3 on sale for $329

http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=AutomotiveGPS&product=1917013

Canadian Tire's has it on for a regular price of $409

http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=140847439 6670223&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474396670271&bmUID=1152301239934&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443288756&assortment=primary&fromSearch=true

I got CT to pricematch The Source, and I got the 10% Canadian tire money as well - so it ended up costing me $299(+taxes on $330)

Not a bad deal, since I regularly buy stuff at CT and won't have a problem spending the CT money.

I don't believe Mapsource is free. But it is included with some Garmin units.

How did you get it for $299? Wasn't it $329 with $8 CDN Tire money? Its 10% of the DIFFERENCE ($80), not 10% of the price.

No - it's not 10% of the difference, it's 10% of the lower price.

I realize that this is a surprizing price-match policy, since most (like FS and BB) are 10% of the difference - but CT offers you 10% of the total lower price in CT money.

I think the policy is actually listed somewhere on the website here - and when you go into a CT store, look behind the customer service counter, there will be a sign there stating the policy.

I can't find a PM policy on their website, and I have called both in-store and the 1-800 for their website store. I both asked if the 10% was on the difference ($80), so I'd get $8, and they both said yes.

I'm wondering if the sales rep for you f'd up in your favour.

I read the price match poilcy on the RFD website actually - can't find it now, of course!

But go into a CT store, and you'll see the policy behind the customer service desk.

Unless they changed it recently (i.e. in the last few days), this is the price match policy they were offering. It was clear as day on a poster at the service desk at the CT store in Ajax.

We used the Garmin i3 to get from Ottawa to Montreal and back to Ottawa and it worked really good. We didn't get lost. Very simple to use.

Also you can select some common destinations (ex: Wendy's, Six Flags (La Ronde) and it will give you the directions very clearly.

The Garmin i3 is currently on sale at Futureshop at 299$. (online)
