TigerDirect has the T6216 for $349.97. Not a bad deal at all...just bought one myself. They have 44 at the Markham location, none in Etobicoke I believe.

Specs are listed here:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=2108747&sku=E400-T6216&CMP=ILC-FPM08

There's also a cheaper one in store ($30 or something less), but has only 256MB RAM and 80GB HDD.

EDIT: Price Dropped to $279!!! SMOKING HOT!
EDIT: Price raised to $380. Good deal though...
EDIT: Price changed back!!
EDIT: $380 again.

very hot

at this price range, you usually get celeron/sempron, not athlon64. dvdrw is a nice upgrade as well. 512 ram instead of the usual 256mb. plus the integrated graphics are very good (as far as integrated solutions go) and there's room for expansion if needed.

i have several emachines in the office and they are rock solid. very reliable... and best of all QUIET.

As of June 30, the price for this machine is now $279, which makes for an excellent deal! (The cpu alone is $145)
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2108747&Sku=E400-T6216

The home page will show the price at $349, but the info page will show $279.
I called Tigerdirect and the price is $279.

For those who had purchased this at $349, you can show them the receipt for a refund of the difference.

I don't know, TD always has high priced shipping. But it seems like an ok deal, i mean if you were to price the parts out it would be like.

AMD s939 3200+ (completely dead socket) - $80
matx board - $60 (not referring to a emachines, just a better s939 board lol)
512mb ram - $30
case and 300w psu ( generic? ) - $30
keyboard/mouse/speakers- $20
160gb hdd - $60
dvd rw/ dual layer - $40

So its worth about $320ish. Id get it just for the legit copy of windows =D

keyboard/mouse/speakers- $40

Its 939, not 754. And good luck getting a 6100 motherboard for 60 bucks.

At 279, this is a smokin deal.

i don't think the KB/M/spkers would cost $40... i think more like $20 or less

anyway, for a legit copy of windows, almost every PC deal at TD is a "good deal"... b/c buying a retail version costs $100+ alone... ;)

I can't find any mention of what resolutions the integrated graphics chipset supports. I'm trying to compare it to our 5 year old PC that had a GeForce 2 Ti graphics card.

From Nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/page/gpumobo_6100-430_features.html):

300 MHz RAMDAC
Blazing-fast RAMDAC supports display with high, ergonomic refresh rates up to and including 1920x1440@75Hz.
» more information

IQ and Performance of the 6100 will destroy the GF2 (the GF2 cards were notorious for horrible IQ, even in their prime). It will support everything except monitors that require Dual-Link cards.

Not to mention the available PCIe slot will let you upgrade to another card if necessary.

Since the onboard video apparently eats up 512MB RAM, would it be prudent to buy at least an additional 512MB RAM? Is it better to get an extra 1MB now? I'm thinking about my old PC that RAM was expensive when it was new, then it gradually got cheaper, then it got more expensive as newer RAM became more popular.

Apparently this supports DDR 400MHz RAM and I have no clue where we are in the cost cycle. I also don't know if it can support 2 sticks of 256 and 2 sticks of 512 in the 4 slots (could be a problem supporting DDR?).

You can set up the amount of RAM for video in the BIOS. It won't be the quickest machine, but you can probably get away with 128MB max. You won't really be gaming on this PC anyways without a new card.

I'd recommend a gig though. I plan on putting 2x512 in the PC when I can. I'm not intimate with the 6100, but the memory controllers on A64s don't support 4 dimm at 1T timing. You can get away with 4 dimms, but you'l have to run slightly slower memory timings. Also, I'm not sure if this chip/board will default to DDR333 if you put 4 dimms in it. maybe someone more savy can comment on it. I do know the early A64s couldn't run 4 dimms at DDR400. I think they've changed that though.

-ddr ram cost about 45 for 512 and 99 for 1gig
-if the board has 4 ddr slots then it will support the config u just asked boards nowadays are pretty forgiving
-problem supporting ddr? no its not a problem cause the board supports ddr ram

Those are definitely SATA headers in that picture. You can buy the 4-pin molex to SATA power adapters, and some boards still ship with them. I'm pretty sure I have a couple lying around. Of course that doesn't help anyone that doesn't have spare cables lying around ;)

As long as the case doesn't have some lame tamperproof sticker for warranty purposes I'll open it up. Otherwise I'll just get info from the BIOS and Device Manager. I'd like to make sure it doesn't spontaneously combust in the first 90 days.

EDIT: FYI, if you read up on the 6100 chipset, it natively supports 2-4 SATA devices depending on the southbridge. Seeing as though mobo manufacturers have to follow the reference desgins, you'll have at least two SATA headers.

If the board is indeed a variant of the MSI K8NGM series I'd wager it defaults to DDR333 when 4 dimms are used. Again, I'll try to update tonight. I don't have 2 extra dimms handy atm though.

With the prices of RAM the way they are, its pretty easy to swap out the 2x256 for 2x512. Use the 2x256 in a secondary machine...

OK, just to update...

Theres a huge silver "QA" sticker on the side panel. I'm not taking it off until I can find out if it will void my warranty. My TD receipt states I have to deal with emachines directly, so I guess I'll be calling them.

According to the BIOS:

-2 SATA ports
-HDD model # is ST3160212A, so a Seagate 7200.9 model.
-DVDRW is a "TSST corp TS-H552D", which is apparently a Samsung, according to Google.

There is no OCing options in the BIOS. Not sure if I need a key sequence or I need to flash the BIOS. Not going to fiddle with that for a while yet.

Well,

I called emachines tech support. All I can say is they're pretty damn fast. I was on hold for 20 and 30 seconds respectively.

My first call, the guy said I can remove the QA sticker no problem. He then insisted on telling me what RAM is compatible - the power cut out in the house, so I never got to finish my call.

My second call, the next guy said the same thing - I can remove the QA sticker without worry.

When you boot it up, does it have an AMI or AWARD bios? You usually have to replace the bios chip on these to reflash to the latest MSI bios, to enable the oc features. I did that on my last eMachine, and it lost all of the fan quieting tech. that it had... was really noisy after that ;-( replaced the original bios chip back and all was well ;-)

Really? Maybe I'll forget it then. I think it was AMI, can't recall.

Opened up the case: MSI-7207 mobo, generic 300W PSU (no SATA power connectors), 2 SATA headers on the mobo.

Its pretty scary how quiet this PC is. Time to wipe the HDD and get rid of all that preinstalled garbage.

How does my CPU compare to this AMD CPU? Would it be a good deal to upgrade... with the pci express and all?

Do you have to use your own copy of Windows to do that?

Does it come with recovery CDs? Can you burn some?

I'm installing XP MCE - I'm using a spare copy that I have. The PC comes with a recovery DVD.

more specifically, it's the MSI K8NGM2-L. the lowest model within 7207 series, without dvi port and giglan and have only 2 sata ports...imagine if only emachine was willing to spend another 20 bucks for a better mobo..
Ditto!

If it has 4 SATA and DVI ports I would definitely get one. But without dvi port and only 2 sata ports I will pass.

There is no OCing options in the BIOS. Not sure if I need a key sequence or I need to flash the BIOS. Not going to fiddle with that for a while yet.Canadianpsycho, any luck with OCing? I may order one more if there are some OC features

From http://www.emachineupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket939/msi7207_downloads.shtml, the lastest bios (06/16/06) has these changes.
- Add safety recover function to revert BIOS into default setting when system unable to boot due to overclocking. To enable the function please press the reset button or power button 3 times.
- Update SATA Raid ROM version.

Flash the bios and let us know ;)

Actually, that link is from an unofficial emachines upgrade forum, not the official site. The BIOS available is the latest MSI BIOS, also available at MSI's website: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=702&kind=1

This does not match the BIOS of the Emachine, as it is proprietary.

There is a BIOS on the Emachines website: http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T6216

I need to do more research... If I can flash back and forth, I'll try the MSI BIOS. If I cannot, I'm not losing the noise level of this PC (if pei_boy's experiences also apply to this model). It is infact an AMI BIOS, so I don't think I need to swap out the chip as MSI's BIOS is for AMI also.

EDIT: If I had to guess, I'd say this PC has the AMD Cool n' Quiet enabled by default. If I decided to overclock using another BIOS I'd have to turn off CnQ anyways, making the system louder... So I may not even attempt it. ALthough it would be nice to be able to tweak RAM timings.

I downloaded the bios update posted on the eMachines website and extracted it. The flash program they supply with the bios update is an AMI one, same as the MSI one, so there may be good luck in flashing it as long as they havent disabled or locked the flash.

Well ... I guess I'm the only one who PM it against BB's T6216 (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10073194), which is listed $549.99

I'm still awaiting for answer from BB as they had to submit request to TD (price difference is more then 20%).

Anyway ... also I had to confirm model number with Gateway customer support:

04 Jul 2006 04:49:43 PM Deb_EMC0169 says: The model is T6216, correct?
04 Jul 2006 04:49:50 PM Alex xxxxxxxx says: yes it is
04 Jul 2006 04:50:08 PM Alex xxxxxxxx says: one with code T6216 RA and another with RB

04 Jul 2006 04:50:37 PM Alex xxxxxxxx : ok .. thanks
04 Jul 2006 04:53:26 PM Deb_EMC0169 says: Thanks for holding.
04 Jul 2006 04:53:34 PM Alex xxxxxxxx says: no problem
04 Jul 2006 04:54:23 PM Alex xxxxxxxx says: i just need to make sure that both models are the same or not the same
04 Jul 2006 04:54:49 PM Deb_EMC0169 says: Based on our database, T6216RA and T6216RB are the same.

I will keep you posted (I should have an answer from BB tomorrow).

Best of luck with the PM. Wish I knew that BB also carried it. Just saw that mine shipped from TD and it clearly states "NO returns" so I'll have to live with it. I wonder if BB will factor in the shipping costs from TD when they do the PM especially considering both are online deals (since TD doesn't have any in stock at B&M).

Interestingly, BB mentions all kinds of included software such as MS Works. Has anyone who received their TD unit noticed that this is included? I'm hoping this is enough for the kids to do their homework.

Honestly though, its just not worth it to me. If I miss out on this deal another one will come along where I dont have to chase my tail around to get the deal.
I dont want to have to worry that it gets lost or damaged in shipping. Plus I would have to go pick it up at the depot because no one will be home when they try to deliver it, and it would be all for nothing if I know im not keeping it.

BB already sent a request to confirm a price to TD (because the price difference is more then 20%). Once the sale price is confirmed, BB promised to PM it.
The latest I suppose to hear back from BB by this time tomorrow.

If you plan on doing PM with BB too, here is what you need:
1. Place an order with BB (keep order open untill PM goes through - your credit card information needs to be verified; BB will send you a message asking to call them back if information is incorrect).
2. Call BB customer support with a PM request after order is placed. They can't PM right away because price difference is more then 20% - they will submit request to head office. Head office will submit request to TD to verify selling price. The whole process may take up to 48 hours.
3. Stop by BB retail store and ask them to verify stock with TD and ask them to put it in writing (i.e. bring screenprint with your BB order number and TD sale price - they will ut a note on it).
4. I have already confirmed model with Gateway - I'm not sure if you need to do the same.
5. Enjoy your new desktop if PM goes through or cancel your order if it doesn't

about the s/h rates, that wouldn't be the biggest prblm .
they'll add that onto the subtotal, and then do the PM b/t the "new subtotal" w/ s/h charge, and their own price...

however, the PMing might be a lil awkward b/c now BB has s/h fees too.

as for the model #'s, well if they're actually the same and confirmed by emachines customer support, i don't believe they can outright deny it when there's proof that it's the same.

BB's policy states: Either prior to purchase or within 30 days of purchase (14 days for computers, monitors, printers, notebook computers, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, portable DVD players, and air conditioners) should you find a lower advertised price, including those on the internet from an authorized Canadian Dealer, we will match that price and beat it by giving you an additional 10% of the difference.

14 days BEFORE or AFTER purchase - even if it was on sale for 10 minutes while there was any stock - BB has to PM (not my words - thier policy LOL)

It is a good deal. But when I listed out the items. I wasn't referring to an actual emachines made motherboard. Obviously overpriced and won't be as good as say a asus or msi board of better quality and most likely cheaper to.

For $279, it is a good price. If they raise it anymore (which they did) it doesn't seem like a good deal anymore. The legit version of windows is the only thing i was interested in. Was going to purchase it for a freind, but I don't know now.

I called Markham this morning (about 11:00 am ) and they said they had 19 in stock available for pickup) at the 279.97 price
I drove up to get one but when I got there they had some single systems on clearance....
You know what happended next... The upgrade bug got me and I got:

Gateway 830GM
Intel P4 630 3.0 Ghz (HT)
1 GB Ram (2 x 512 )
200 GB Sata HD (Barracuda 7200.7 SATA - ST3200822AS)
Lite-On DVD-ROM (167T)
Lite-On DVD+-RW Dual Layer (1633S)
4 SATA connectors on MB

Anyway
Got this system:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1576821

For 374.96 Including a 1 Year replacement warranty

I figured the better CPU, extra 512 MB Ram, extra DVD ROM drive, Media Center 2005 and 1 year warranty was worth the extra $95 bucks
(I got the last one of this model)

Anyway, they had some other "one off" deals that looked decent...
Well hope all those who wanted this original deal can get it local without shipping now.

Hurry, I expect they won't last long!

Edit:
This was my first time at TigerDirect and I was impressed with the facility. I was expecting a "Markham Gheto wareshouse store", but instead found a large clean high tech store with lots of goodies. They were a few different systems beside the cash that were "reduced" and this was one of them (no more in the pile I saw of this particular model) but there were a few others that also seemed like decent deals...

They told me they had 19 in stock when I phone them about 11:00 am this morning. I went around 1:00 pm and actually had a system (don't know how many they had at that time) but changed my mind when I saw the clearance items by the checkout.

True, that Intel graphics is crap, but I am building a HTPC (and maybe a little gaming rig) so I will be purchasing a better video card with DVI out.

Clawhammer was 754, yes. They also made a Newcastle and Venice for 754. They had 3 different cores for 939 also.

My T6216 is a Venice.

Best Buy online is selling this Emachine for $550. It's too bad they won't price match!. The pricematch would be $279+$42 shipping=$321.

So 100% PM would be 550-321=229x 10%=$23 savings make it 321-23=$298!! plus taxes of course!!

And thats why Im not a big fan of Tiger Direct. Between the non stop mail in rebates and the "shady" at best, dealings ive had with them.
4 Months ago I got a mem card from the etobicok store. It was 80 bucks on the web. I went to the store they wanted 120 for it. I said to him its 80 on the web page, the reply was "oh is it" so he took me to the cash, and walked away. They then scanned it in at 120 dollars. The sales guy came back to the cash, and said.. and Im not makeing this up "charge him the web price" Without even asking the guy at the cash rang it in at 80 bucks....... Now whats THAT all about?

That's not the worst. I've lost at least of 3 rebates worth of over $100 in total. I've followed all their instructions and sent everything on time. They kept telling me they've never received them. They told me to resubmit but when I resubmitted again, they told me I was late because they don't have my case on file. Every time you call they'll give you a different BS. I'm not sure about online sales but I had a friend purchase one for me from the Markham store this afternoon. Attached to the receipt was the TD Return/Exchange policy which states: "We allow 30 days for returns or exchanges. Items returned 'opened' are subject to a 15% restocking fee. No returns or exchanges unless defective on clearance items, celluar phones, headphones, and earphones."

You can return anything, but there is a 15% restocking fee.

There are no returns on clearance items UNLESS they are defective, but they will ship you a replacement and refund your shipping costs (same goes for defective regular stock).

14 days BEFORE or AFTER purchase - even if it was on sale for 10 minutes while there was any stock - BB has to PM (not my words - thier policy LOL)

actually, their policy does state they don't PM LTO's, ltd qty items/while supplies last.... but how they really define it is actually up to them it seems... b/c their policy is VAGUE!

Nice little PC, very quiet. Put an extra 1GB in to make it useable. Also, FWIW, paid the $53 for 1yr extended warranty. This is the 1st PC I ever bought assembled, been building mine up to now, but I just cannot beat that price for a basic PC.

I just got a confirmation e-mail from BB saying I can go ahead with ordering the system as they will pricematch it. However, I just noticed that BB lowered their price from $549.99 to $399.99. Here's part of the e-mail I received from BB:

"Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:

This e-mail is in regards to your inquiry on price protection with Tiger
Direct for the eMachines T6216RA AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz Computer. We
have confirmed that we're able to match their price with an additonal 10%
discount. Please place an order online and provide us with the order
number, as well as case number ######. We will then discount the order
accordingly as long as prices have not changed and the stock is still
available."

So with the pricematch, you might get an additional $12 savings, depending on how they calculate the shipping. Then again, it might come to about the same price. Too bad they lowered the price, makes it hardly worth the effort, albeit it, you know have a 2nd avenue if you want to order that system.

Because the MSI 6100 boards apparently default to DDR333 with 4 DIMMs. A lot of AMD systems lower to DDR333 with 4 DIMMS.

I'm trying to digest that link's info. Is this an MSI quirk, or are al Mobos with DDR behaving the same way?

I'm wondering if I'd be better off populating DIMM1 & DIMM2 with my 1GB DDR400, and using the other 256X2 in another PC? I thought, with DDR you're supposed to populate DIMM1&3, then DIMM2&4, but I'm really confused now...

Also is there a way to remove AOL, McAfee and the 30 day trial of Office from the system? It's a real pain to have all this crap on start-up when I have no plans on using any of this software. I'll use the upc from the box and hope it works. If not, I'm out the cost of the stamp and about 10 minutes of my time. To bad the rebate form doesn't specify the upc of products that are eligible for the rebate.

I'm not using a router, it's a direct connection to the computer. Any ideas?I believe the you need to clone the original mac address. I have set this up on a relative's dlink router with Rogers after he switched router, don't know how to do it without a router.

Ahh...that does sound familiar! A stupid question but how do you release the IP address in XP?

Also is there a way to remove AOL, McAfee and the 30 day trial of Office from the system? It's a real pain to have all this crap on start-up when I have no plans on using any of this software. I almost feel like reformatting the drive and reinstalling XP, especially as they made the C: drive partition so huge and added a tiny, tiny D: drive partition.

Thanks guys!

plug ur win2k machine back. Make sure you can go on the internet.
start -> run -> type in "cmd" -> in the command prompt type "ipconfig /release"

Plug the ethernet cable into ur new computer.

go into command prompt again through the same step.
type "ipconfig /renew"

try to go on the web now.

Agreed. I troubleshooted a friend through the whole ipconfig /release /renew and to no avail. When they called Rogers, a simple cable modem reset fixed the issue.

Finally booted the computer. Wow, this machine is really quiet.

My components are:

A64 3200+ Venice Core
Western Digital WD1600BB (2mb cache, no warranty through WD)
Lite-On shw1635s (re-flashed with retail firmware)
2 x 256 Infineon singe-sided ddr400 cl3
PSU is a HiPro hp-p3527f3 with a 20-pin atx connector

The case has scratches, scrapes, and rub marks on the plastic. It functions but isn't too pretty.

I'll try the msi bios later today.

Hope this info is helpful.

Flashed the board with bios version 3.5 from the MSI website and the fans run at full speed which makes the machine way too loud. In my case, the re-flashed board defaults to using the pci-e slot for graphics. Luckily, I had a spare pci-e card to get into the bios.

I flashed it back to the stock emachine bios to keep things quiet.

well, TD's description doesn't specifically say exactly what brand of components are inside this PC case, so isn't it really up to them to decide what brand of components to put in it as long as it still meets the specifications mentioned on their website?

i think FS/BB are the same... they'll mention "dvd burner", "1gig RAM", etc. but it doesn't mention brand....

mahjongmaniac
Jul 9th, 2006, 12:58 PM
Why not just email Emachine, have them confirm that these two are the same model. Put that in the PM.
How do they calculate the shipping? Do they add the TD's shipping on to of the price and pricematch that instead?

that's exactly what i was thinkin...

but u guys better have ur printouts handy b/c TD's price just went back up...

--------------------

I confirmed the model number with gateway ... that was me who tried to PM it with BB first ...
Situation is that someone else got a PM and I got a refusal (LOL), not to mention that they have lowered the price - thats why I'm saying that BB are scambags.

I asked that guy who received a PM email from BB to forward that message to me, so I could file a complain with Goverment Agency (I'm willing to spend my time on this as it is not the first time BB is trying to scam their own PM policy).

heh, so true that they like to SCAM their way out of their own policy....

it's not the 1st time for me that BB has denied a perfectly legit PM w/o a valid reason....

i think on a PM a long time ago, they just said the competitor had a "LTO"., but they clearly had it on sale for a few days.... so in my POV, they were making BS up ...

anyhoo, let us know what happens :)

Hynix ram,
Seagate drive (wish I had the WD as I got a few and less trouble to pair them on the same channel)

I flashed with v1.5, added 512M to make 1G, running at DDR400 speed, poor OCing setup thought. At 220, passed memtest, but xp failed to load; too bad no cpu voltage adjustment. The press power button 3 times thing from v1.5 doesn’t work as claimed.

From those who want to save the bios before flash, make a bootable usb flash drive, follow this link http://www.weethet.nl/english/hardware_bootfromusbstick.php

at this price range, you usually get celeron/sempron, not athlon64. dvdrw is a nice upgrade as well. 512 ram instead of the usual 256mb. plus the integrated graphics are very good (as far as integrated solutions go) and there's room for expansion if needed.

My is tear down :| . If your QA sticker still on that mean your machine new? How to know if machine new otherwise?

For 2 seconds, yeah. Until the BIOS sets the fan speeds, everything defaults to high speed. Same thing happens with my DFI SLI Board and 1900XTX.

My is tear down :| . If your QA sticker still on that mean your machine new? How to know if machine new otherwise?

These aren't new, they're refurbs. Not everyone is getting mint sysyems. At $280 you can't expect 100% new components.

The onboard graphics share the memory with the system RAM. 384 + 128 Video = 512. Either add a cheap gfx card, more RAM, or both for a snappier machine.

You probably have to configure speedfan. I'm not sure, I don't use it.

To flash BIOS, do you guys make a bootable CD? How about a bootable USB device? TIA.

Memory also show as 384mb. Do I have lemon?

They would all show this since the video card shares the 512MB.

Has anyone been able to reduce the video memory? For me it always reverts back to the 128 no matter what.

Call Emachines. They'll pick up in less then a minute. Number is on the front panel, or in the little cubbyhole where the front audio jacks are.

MSI Bios (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=702&kind=1)

I am still trying to learn how to flash the bios from a CD. The Emachines bios was easy to flash since it had an NRG image that could be burned and then ultimately inserted into the DVD/CD drive to flash. Can anybody help me out with the MSI Bios and putting it onto a CD to flash?

Based on my experience, there's no need to activate or re-activate if you restore the system. I've restored the system about 5 times using different hard drives for testing. When I used the restore or moved the emachines hard drive to a non-emachines pc, it required activation. I think as long as the restore is to an "emachines" mobo, activation isn't required.

Hi, I had the same issue and contacted eMachines. There was a problem with the sound/video card driver. Here's the solution as per reply from eMachine guy:

There is a possibility that your sound card driver is corrupted. You
may have installed new software, updated Windows files or added new
hardware. What I would suggest is for you to reload your drivers
through the steps below. Restart the computer in Safe Mode and
reinstall the sound drivers.

As the computer restarts repeatedly tap the F8 key as the computer is
starting up. Tap 2 times per second until it displays the Windows XP
start up menu. Choose Safe Mode and press the Enter key. (For Windows
XP there will be an additional menu. Choose the top "Microsoft Windows
XP home Edition" by highlighting this line and pressing "Enter").

(Here in Safe Mode get out of the help and support window by clicking on
the X in the upper right-hand corner or by clicking on OK for the window
that says you are in Safe Mode.)

1. Click on “Start”.
2. Click on "Control Panel".
3. On the left-hand side, click the line that says, "Switch to Classical
View". If it says, “Switch to Category view” then do not click on it.
4. Double-click on the "System" Icon.
5. Click on the "Hardware" tab.
6. Select the "Device Manager" tab. Click on the Device Manager button.
7. Click "View" and select "Show hidden devices" from the menu that
drops down.
8. Look for a "Sound, video and game controllers" category.
9. If the category is listed, click on the plus sign next to "Sound,
video and game controllers". You will notice that a sub-menu will
appear. Highlight the first device in this sub-menu by clicking on it a
single time.
10. Then right-click on the device and choose to "Uninstall”. Click on
“OK” to the Warning and "No" if it asks to restart the computer.
11. If the "Sound Video and Games controllers" category is still listed,
continue removing items from that category until it disappears. (I had to delete everything for this category to disappear)
12 Also, remove any devices that have a yellow "!" or "?". If there is
an "Unknown Devices" or "Other Devices" category, remove all devices in
these categories until they also disappear.
13. Next click on "Close" and choose to restart your computer.
14. As the computer restarts it will redetect and reinstall the sound
card. (It did.)

Since your system has the Medialess Recovery Console installed on your
system.

Please follow the steps below to reinstall the drivers on your D
partition Recovery drive.

1. Click on Start

2. Click on All Programs

3. Select System Recovery then Application & Driver Recovery. This
will open a program that will allow you to reinstall the drivers or any
preinstalled programs available on the hard drive.

It looked like mine had alreayd reinstalled the drivers but I did it again anyways. It says it's best to uninstall before reinstalling and I just continued.

Next, in the realtek (or whatever the sound program is called) UNCHECK "mute back when front jacks are plugged in". I think this is backwards in the programming or something because once I did that--It all worked. Double checked on MSN by chatting. :)

Hope this helps!

The beta version of Speedfan works. You have to install the 4.28 version first, then sign up for the beta and download version 4.29.
You can flash from Windows by downloading live update from http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_liveupdate.php
then go to C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\AMI and start that program. Open the bios file and flash. I checked all the options on the left panel. More info can be found on the MSI forums.

i just flashed my BIOS with the above mentioned "live update" method. just unzip the bios rom file to any folder. the extension is .150

change it to .rom

then use the live update program located here:

C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\AMI\winsfi.exe

then find and open the rom file (thru the program) you just renamed.

Really. I flashed, restarted and then I loaded up the default settings in the bios. I rebooted again and I found cool and quiet under the cell_menu setting. You are correct in saying that by default cool and quiet is set to disable but I subsequently enabled it and I didn't notice much of a change with respect to the hair dryer noise after restarting the system again. When you enabled cool and quiet, did the noise immediately stop after you rebooted?

I found that using the MSI bios also resulted in both fans running at full speed for a few seconds before slowing down to a more reasonable level. However, the MSI bios's minimum fan speed seems to be higher than the emachines bios. I'm not sure why but it does.

Did you try re-flashing to the emachines bios to see what happens?

I found that using the MSI bios also resulted in both fans running at full speed for a few seconds before slowing down to a more reasonable level. However, the MSI bios's minimum fan speed seems to be higher than the emachines bios. I'm not sure why but it does.

Did you try re-flashing to the emachines bios to see what happens?

audit13,

I did reflash to the newest eMachine bios. After the reflash and the subsequent restart, I loaded up the default settings and rebooted the system. The reflashed machine made the hair dryer noise for a couple of seconds and then disappeared. Am I the only person getting the constant hair dryer noise when flashing to the MSI bios? I believe I enabled cool and quiet after the MSI bios flash although I can't 100% guarantee that it took because I am a newbie at flashing/bios settings.

You're not the only person having this problem. If you want to keep the MSI bios, you may want to undervolt your fans. This is a great website for "silent" equipment:

Yup, but I also turned on Smartfan under H/W Monitor I believe it was

Konowl,

I messed around with the MSI bios settings and I found that, just as you said, under the H/W monitor, enabling the "Smart Fan1 Target Temperature" and the "Smart Fan Tolerance" is what makes the hair dryer noise go away after 2 seconds upon startup. Flipping the cool and quiet switch either way (on or off) doesn't seem to do much with regards to the CPU fan and system fan speed (check it out yourself).

With the Smart Fan1 Target Temperature and Smart Fan Tolerance enabled (cool and quiet disabled), the readings are

CPU fan: 2311
System Fan: 2556

With the Smart Fan1 Target Temperature and Smart Fan Tolerance enabled (cool and quiet enabled), the readings are

CPU fan: 2311
System Fan: 2556

Coincidently, the default settings of the eMachine bios are as follows:

Smart CPU Fan Target Temperature ENABLED (55 C)
Smart CPU Fan Target Tolerance (5 C)
Smart System Fan Target Temperature ENABLED (45 C)
Smart System Fan Target Tolerance (5 C)

I am certain that if you were to disable those settings in the eMachine bios, your fan speeds would increase and you would hear the hair dryer noise all the time. Thanks for the advice/help audit13, tjuzer and Konowl. Looks like I may be switching back to the original eMachine bios as I get lower fans speeds and I get the same DDR333 regardless of bios (I have 2 sticks of single sided 256 MB RAM and 2 sticks of double sided 512 MB RAM). Unless of course, somebody out there can justify to me why I should stick with the MSI bios.

I did, that's why I continued messing around after enabling Cool and Quiet. Now, I have done NO research into exactly what Cool and Quiet DOES... but I do know that if you download the AMD utilitiy it dynamically changes the core voltage and clock speed, which is the COOL part, and perhaps it works with "Smartfan" for the quiet part.

For the COOL part, during low CPU usage, it drop the CPU voltage and half the clock multiplier, which in effect drops the CPU temperature. The QUIET part, can't confirm. The theroy is, if the CPU is already cool and the fan already running at the lowest speed, it cannot get any quieter :cheesygri

To proof the QUIET part, play a 3D game, the fan speed will increase, then quit games, the COOL part kicks in, then the QUIET part kicks in :D

For MSI, enable COOL & QUIET, enable SMART FAN, set tolerance to 2. Reboot. Yes, the MSI has a higher base line rpm, but different in noise is not noticeable.

For DDR333, go to bios, change Memclock Mode to MANUAL, then set to 200. It worked for me with 4 single sided 256M. Or for OCing, leave it at AUTO, drop CPU to NB to 800 (HTT), up CPU-LDT (I suggest do it incrementally, this is FSB). My CPU-LDT is at max 250, this bring the HTT back to 1000 (4X250). I hope the terminalogy is correct, still a 939 newbie.

Hey all, new here.

I ordered one online, 6 days to Rural Nova Scotia so not too bad considering it gets handed off to two different delivery companies after UPS.

Got it at the $279.00 deal

Mine came with the following:

Barracuda Hard Drive

Lite-On Drive

Hynix Memory

Generic v.92 modem

The case doesn't have any "QA" sticker and is in pretty good shape except for some scratches near the expansion card openings. Other than that it looks new and works A+

I not completely fimiliar with XP so I was wondering if it's possible to format the hard drive and reinstall without all the extra crap? TIA.

rambokid,

You are correct. Changing the Memclock Mode to MANUAL and setting the limit to 200 did the trick -> DDR400 (yeah!); my system has 1.5 GB of RAM (a combination of single and double sided RAM). What value did you set for "Smart Fan1 Target Temperature"? What made you choose a "Smart Fan1 Tolerance" of 2 C since the temperatures can range from 1 to 3 C? Do you think adjusting the DDR voltage (Cell_Menu->Voltage Control Function->Adjust DDR Voltage) from the default value of 2.55 to the max yellow peformance value of 2.85 improves/degrades performance? Lastly, where can I get the AMD utility that you talk about?

The tolerance is the deadband, you may want to increase if the fan cycles frequently.

It will not improve performance, but it may improve system stablity if you overclock. My system is stable at the max clock bios (250) allowed with default voltage, so not need to increase it for unnecessary stress.

I deleted the partitions (fat32 partition for eMachine and NTFS partition for windows xp home) first with windows xp disc and then freshly installed windows xp thereafter. The problem is that upon entry into the newly reinstalled system without any eMachine junk, certain devices no longer are recognized (like the network adapters, etc.). Where did you get/find the hardware drivers for the components that no longer work? Honestly, why bother? Its a MSI board, use the MSI drivers.

If you desparately need the emachines drivers, just grab them from the emachines site. http://www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T6216

Canadianpsycho,

I took your advce and "grabbed" the emachine downloads from their site (after a fresh install of windows xp to eliminate the recovery partition). After installing the 8-in-1 Media Card Reader Update 1.10 from the eMachine website, I now have a serious problem!

My emachine now thinks that there is a floppy drive installed in my system (A drive) when there is NO FLOPPY DRIVE on the T6216. In addition a window keeps on popping up that states the following:

shwiconem.exe - Drive Not Ready
The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive A: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that drive door is closed.

Anybody else experience this problem? Anybody have any ideas on how I can fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

mine still works. try checking the power options in the control pannel. see if its still set to go into "hiberbnation/sleep" mode after a preset time, or its in "Always on" mode

I'm not at my eMachine and have no way for the next 24 hours. Can anyone provide me a list of resolutions supported with the integrated video, specifically, WS resolutions (e.g. 1400 x 900, 1680 x 1050, etc.)?

Nvidia website states the 6100/410 chipset supports resolutions up to 1920x1440.

Yes, that part I have. I can't find what OTHER resolutions they support. I don't want to order a WS monitor only to find out the PC doesn't support it thus requiring me to order a video card.

All of a sudden the good deal on the LCD is diminished.

On the one I got, it makes a loud WOOSH when it starts, but it's whisper quiet after that.

I can't tell you about the heat tho.

Um...the Nvidia Geforce 6100 card in this motherboard is well....a Nvidia Geforce 6100 card :) Which would mean the 6600GT you quoted is faster than the 6100.

The on board 6100 is about the best OB solutions around right now. That said, the 9800 or 6600gt will be significantly faster. Actually the 9550 in the OD thread would be nice also...

Just noticed this mobo requires PCI-E cards...

a benQ 17". i popped in a BFG 7300 OC vidcard and it seems to have fixed this issue. the DVI out is super clear. now to see if it can play CS:Source :D

anyways i didnt like the fact the OB video was stealing my RAM from the CPU.

the manual can be downloaded from the MSI website

I have the same specs as you, and it is running great, was a little slow, but i got a 256mb video card for the PCI-E slot and now it runs faster than any computer i have ever used!:cheesygri
