What are you trying to do?

Remove gunk?

I've heard that it will work. You might also want to try goo-gone from crappy tire (if your trying to remove)

Don't believe it will hurt, though I wouldn't spray WD40 on my paint, unless I had a good reason to.

Quick Anwer - try some on an inconspicuous section of the car.
I heard Peanut butter also gets road tar off, but make sure your car's not allergic to it......

It might sound like a joke, but on TLC last night one of their "Car Tips" was that you can use peanut butter to remove tar from cars. Just apply to the tar and wipe off. I have never tried this though. Anyone?

Just don't use chunky. Sorry, had to do that.

It may be the oil in the peanut butter that does the trick. Try ordinary vegetable oil and it may work the same and will not hurt the paint at all. Tar is an oil based product and it may work.
