Should I pay $1xx for the Ipod jack for the Civic LX (picking up this week) or should I just buy an FM transmitter for $10-15?
thanks

Forget about the FM transmitter if you care about audio quality.
I believe the new Civic LX already has an AUX IN jack on the radio. I think it's only on the one that plays MP3's. Just buy the appropriate cable for like $2. Add an iPod car charger if needed.
Even if the radio doesn't have an AUX IN, you're better off just buying a whole new headunit with one and upgrading your whole system. There are even one's that are already iPod-ready. $1xx for a simple iPod jack is a ripoff.

Neither. Buy an aftermarket Sony radio for $150 and get the aux in and a much better radio at the same time.

NOPE, actually Honda radios are pretty good,it's the speakers that are crap.
I'd use that as your final bargaining tool, 90% off the cost of this is the installation, shouldn't be too hard to have it thrown in.
AND it looks WAY better leaving the stock headunit in!

Thanks for the input tho, really appreciate it.
Now, do u guys know where to buy the ipod cable cheaply? I tried finding on ebay but I get so many different types of items. Tried "auxiliary cable civic" on ebay search and got nothing/

but doesn't one end have to connect to the ipod via the long rectangular output from the ipod? (I've got a nano)

i think the long rectangular thing is just for data transfer. there is a headphone jack at the top that you can output to a stereo with a male to male i believe...

If you have a single disc CD player (stock head unit) you can find a harness for your stereo which plugs into the connection for a CD changer (if your car has it as an option). Most will either give you 2 RCA plugs (buy a red and white male to 3.5mm stereo cord from Radio Shack) or if possible get one that has an iPod dock plug on the end.

I have a Civic LX and bought the audio-in jack - cost about $149 installed by the dealer. It is only an audio plug - not specific for ipod usage - I could plug a cassette player, external CD player, etc in it and have them play through my stereo.
There is though, something completely ipod specific available for the new Civic. I've only come across it on US Honda sites. Check it out here (http://www.hondapartsdeals.com/product_info.php?pName=ipod-music-link-2006-civic) to see what I mean. This is a special ipod-interface that allows you to control your ipod from your Honda Civic stereo. You can also find this here (http://automobiles.honda.com/models/audio_accessories.asp?ModelName=Civic+Sedan) on the honda.com website - not available in Canada though. I wonder if this is what the original poster was actually referring to? It is a cool feature to have!

The latter is called iPod integration, I have it in my Dodge SX and it's very cool. You get the names and titles on the Radio display and you can control it directly from the factory headunit. In addition, it also keeps the iPod charged.
If you're happy with the stock system then i definately reccomend it. Too bad Honda doesn't offer it in Canada, maybe try eBay.

The Honda musiclink is terrible - check Edmunds for a whole list of people who bought it but hate it due to its flaky compatibility and ease of use. The Honda AUX in is free, and you merely need a normal male to male 3.5 mm cable, available from some dollar stores. Only issue is control of the mp3 player is much less effective.
I haven't seen the 2007 Civic, but replacing the head unit on the 2007 Fit will require the purchase of an adaptor since the unit is not a standard shape (adaptor costs maybe $250-300?)
