What exactly do you mean when you say "Toronto"?

Where? When? How long?

Do you mean downtown Toronto? This is market driven so you just have to park farther away from the core and move you a$$ to save some $$. Cheaper ones are either farther away or get filled early.

Pricing is also event driven... it's expensive to park in the major towers during the week (~$30 /day), but cheap $6/7 weeknights and weekends.

Park the car somewhere else and take TTC.
Of course, you still have not provided when, where and how long.
If you just want to park for one hour (instead of multiple hours), I don't know anywhere in GTA (not just Toronto) can give you that price point unless it is free. I believe even meter parking is more than that.

In downtown Toronto, it's been at least a few years that an hour's worth of parking came out to $1.

Even a decade ago, $0.50 a half hour would have been cheap.

Good luck finding that on a weekday in downtown. You can find places for $16-$18 a day, but they're not in the heart of downtown.

There's a place under the Roger's centre that charges $7 a day during non-event periods. Can't remember the exact location, but drive around the back and look for a small sign with a small driveway going down. The MTCC charges $14 a day but also during non-event times.

Leave your car on the sidewalk. Tickets aren't that expensive compared to actually paying for parking.

That is still more than $1 per hour assuming he park for 24 hours. It does not fit his budget.

it's a 30dollar ticket!!! if you leave your cars for a few hours, you will get a few tickets.

it is expensive.

You need to understand that parking in Toronto is not like parking in a city with 80,000 people. You're not (easily) going to find cheap parking. If anything you should understand that parking costs are apart of the overall cost of visiting such a large city.

A potentially even better solution -- get a metropass and park for free at the TTC station.

One caveat would be safety of your car in those lots. Once a few years ago, my friend and I returned from downtown to Finch station to find her car's door handle busted.

I supose one could take residence in the area of concern, apply for a street parking tab (12 month approx) and legally be able to overnight park. Less than $1 day... They don't hassle you during the day in some areas... but beware, 1 hour parking limits on res streets is the norm and each one of those is $20.

The areas they don't hassle you (they need to chalk the tires), are areas that are non revenue generating areas. I should note that TTC has added 700 more spots on their lots, announced this week.

Location is everything... what's the loc?

How long? If it is for just one hour and your budget is $1, use TTC to save gas.

For Youge and Eglinton, you can find parking spot in the side streets but it can take times and long walk.

OP,

There might be a way you can get cheap parking downtown. Do you work or know anyone who works in the financial district? Depending on who you work for, downtown parking is subsidized - I was talking to a guy who only pays $6.00 a day for parking in the downtown core because his office gives him a parking pass.

Might be an avenue for you to pursue.

Cheers!

The Esplanade. Novehotel. $8 a weekday covered too.

I park there on days I need to drive downtown. $8 a day isn't bad..not a far walk from financial district.

$5 all day weekends on the U of T campus. Lots of parking spots close to Queens Park.

ttc is soooo not worth taking.

one ride in =$2.75

one ride out =$2.75

thats already more than my original parking payment request requirement.

Your comparing single token to single token. Try buying bulk tokens and the price is cheaper.

10 tokens for $21.00 = $2.10 a ride.

well...that's because your original parking payment request requirement is ridiculous!! the MINIMUM for pay parking ANYWHERE downtown right now is $0.75 per half an hour or $1.50/hour....and most of them even have 4 hours limit...so unless u can find some FREE parking somewhere...I don't think u can find any PAY parking in your price range...

btw...if u take the TTC...you would get the ticket/token...it only cost $2.10 instead of $2.75...and if you are a big TTC fan like myself...you will be able to find a phamary that sells it for $1.75 instead

There are other advantages to the ttc...

1. No worries about getting your car dinged / stolen / vandalized. People randomly key or knife up cars in GTA parking lots. My parents' camry* got a really large dent in the back in some parking lot in Chinatown.

* Different Camry than the one I asked about in the Auto forum.

2. No worries about impaired driving. Maybe you will be really tired at the end of the day or you want to have a drink. You will not have to pay for any taxi home or be tempted to drive impaired if you are taking the TTC.

3. No risk of car accidents. Toronto traffic can be heavy and overwhelming if you're not used to it. Your car won't get into a collission if it's safe at home.

4. Not using up your car's expensive gasoline. No wear & tear on the car either.

5. Mass transit is good for the environment.
