I bought a used car privately and was wondering when I get the car registered if the ministry requires a bill of sale?? And if they do, should I request the seller to write a receipt for less than what I paid to avoid paying more in taxes. For example I paid $3400 but get a receipt for say $3000 Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Thanks

That's illegal and is not allowed on RFD.
P.S. You should've gotten a bill of sale when you bought the car.

Not sure which province you live in, but in Quebec you go to the office with the seller and they will ask the seller how much he sold it to you, then he answer...(if the seller cant go to the office, he can sign a proxy form and just fill in the info. After that , the ownership transferred and you paid the tax on the amount the seller told them.
No bill involved from a private sale (in Quebec)
