I rather take an underperforming engine over a potential fire hazard any day. Unless you like the idea of getting your rear end burned.

Search on the latest releases please. Nissan is not selling the Sentra's or Altimas in 2006 anymore. All of their cars are under recall! Huge Engine problems! Transmission is next!

There's a reason why you can even get a 2004 Altima for $14,000. (hell, my buddy got a 2002 for 12K! with 69K on it).. Now with 2006 fuxked, its gonna be even lower..

We have 120 of the new 2006 Altimas in our company and trust me, we aren't happy. Nissan released the private recall just few weeks ago.

Worse then any domestic manufacturer..

Nissan Stops Sale On Some 2006 Model Year Four-Cylinder Altimas and Sentra SE-Rs

GARDENA, CA - June 4, 2006: On Friday, Nissan North America, Inc., directed its dealers to stop selling certain 2006 model year, four-cylinder Altimas and Nissan Sentra SE-Rs because of reports of excessive oil consumption while it continues to investigate potential causes.

The condition, if not detected or addressed properly, could lead to the potential for engine damage, or failure which could result in a fire in extreme cases. The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration has been advised of Nissan’s action.

Nissan estimates that about 100,000 Altimas and Sentra SE-Rs built between January and May 2006 may be subject to excessive oil consumption. There have been about 215 reports of excessive oil consumption, mostly from rental-car fleets, and 17 reports of engine fires, resulting in one minor injury.

Nissan is aggressively working to find a definite cause and solution for the condition.

I rather take an underperforming engine over a potential fire hazard any day. Unless you like the idea of getting your rear end burned.I'd rather take the burning vehicle, in the unlikely occurence, at least insurance will cover it and buy you a new vehicle.

Many many years ago, my Ford Mustang caught on fire (forget now, either starter or alternator overheated and ignited), stupid me put the fire out.. I later learned I should have let the car burn completely, so insurance would cover it. Since I put the fire out, insurance wouldn't cover it, so I had to fork out the cash for repairs.

Note to everyone, if your car catches on fire, let it burn real good before calling the fire department, and do not put the fire out, unless for protection of life.

As updated by weedboy, the altima and sentras are also fire hazards. The question is whether you want the fire to start in the engine bay or under your seat.

Not that I condone a seat that catches fire, but if any idiot doesn't notice the heat of a seat that is about to catch fire, then Darwinism is taking its natural course. Much like the Mazda 5's that were catching fire because people were driving on the highway in 2nd gear and didn't notice. Anyways idiots have dodged another bullet by this recall.
