ok, this has never happened before. after i buy cds, (whcih i've bot many cds, atleast 60) i rip the whole disk onto my computer. when i put "In your honour" by the foo fighters in my comp, it wont rip and the songs play but like skip, it sounds like my comp is lagging but i know it isnt. ive tried many times. it plays just fine on an old cd/stereo player, but in my dvd player or my computer it wont play. it has this enhanced thing that keeps popping up and then not working so i close it. i clicked open on the drive to view atleast the songs as files and they werent there at all, not in any folders or anything, just a bunch of stuff for the enhanced features. what to do?

okay, not all playesr can play "dual disk" cds due to the fact that they are a bit thicker than regular cds and the laser can't scan it correctly.
i know because i bought one before and returned it the next day.

don't buy dual discs because they also scratch easily
uhh yeah why?

For starters just try taking the CD out and putting it back in...sometimes if you do that a few times it works fine.

Secondly if that doesn't work, I'd download it using a torrent. I mean you purchased the CD, so I really don't see anything wrong with doing that...I DL'ed that album recently...there's lots of high-quality copies floating out there.

I own a couple 'dual discs'. It plays sometimes when it feels like it in my Mac PowerBook. So I just made a copy of the CD and it plays much better.

How do these duel discs differ from standard cds?

Must say I've never heard of them before.

Sounds like it might be your hardware then. Sometimes there are bad batches of cds but that's rare. You could try to give the label a call and ask for assistance.

the cd could be sort of encrypted so that u cant rip the songs off of it. i know you bought the cd and should have every right to make a legal backup copy but tell that to the record labels. i hope its not a sony label either with a rookit...but they stopped doing that now

I thought that as well but he says it also won't work in this DVD player and afaik only computers and car stereos have been known to be affected by copy protection.

This is what it could be.
I bought Genesis Platinum Collection (3 CD Greatest Hits collection) and the first two discs play fine on my computer, but the third does not even play because they don't want you copying it).
Fortunately, I have a friend who has a home CD copier and he copied it on that and the copy played back fine on my computer.

It would suck if you bought a CD and couldn't even put it on your MP3 player.

That's the problem for the lablels. Put copy protection schemes in and you'll piss off the ever shrinking market that is buying your product. Don't and people will be ripping them and sharring them online.

The problem is they'll find a way to rip them anyways - and you'll have pissed off your base.

The only solution is the cd levy which brings to question - if we're paying a royality to copy our cds then why are they putting on a protection sceme to stop us?

I think the levy's a horrible idea. In some cases, the levy costs more than the disks themselves, and I don't think people burn too many CD's anymore anyways... when everybody uses an iPod.

The good news is, iTunes and other services are actually making money, so maybe that will change the direction of things a bit.

**** itunes, the artist recivieves much, much less of a profit from that, it is basically apple raping technology that teenagers pioneered to make a profit for themselves, and dominating the music industry (by charging more for albums than stores sell them for on physical disk) and since when has itunes contributed anything creative to music? its marketting and capitalism at is worst. btw, other people i know have bought this cd and it plays and rips fine for them, maybe the problem is i use windows media 9 (i just like it better, ok) and it wont even PLAY never mind trying to rips songs. iTunes plays it the exact same way, the songs play but it seems like its lagging even though my computer is fine and i defrag and recover the ram before i play it just in case.
i guess it is alright, but even if i download the torrent i wont be getting the highest quality which is why i buy cds.

its because the conservative party set up a scheme to fund soldiers in iraq as well as other neo conservatives.

The levy costing more than the CD itself is a bad thing? It's that levy which gives us the right to utilize content in any way we want since the levy takes care of "the man". The problem is (of course) most of that levy goes into the hands of "the man". However within the public system, if everybody downloaded their content and payed a royalty to store it, musicians would be in a much better position to advocate for a higher percentage.

Of course when I say "payed a royalty to store it" I'm referring to expanding the blank media levy to include storage (flash or hard drive based) within MP3 players/Ipods and to other mediums like DVDs.

Agreed with everything the OP said about Itunes.

Because the yanks are adding the protection scheme while the Canadians are charging a levy. We're getting ripped off on two fronts!
