View Full Version : Best way to sell older appliances?

I'm moving into my new condo soon. I purchased new appliances which will be delivered in 2 weeks time. In the meantime I need to sell the old ones. A stove, fridge, and dishwasher. They're 10-13 years old.
Besides posting an ad here on RFD, is there any other way of getting a hold of someone that specializes in buying 2nd hand appliances? Or what would be the best way of selling them?
Suggestions, please!

If you read my post, you would have noticed I'm in a condo, hence, I don't have a yard I can leave them on, with a sign, unfortunately :cheesygri

Not a bad idea. I don't think any Nigerian scammers would bother asking me to ship something as large as an appliance. Now I just need to set a price. How much do second hand fridges and stoves go for? I'm thinking if I can get $150 for each I'd be happy, or is that too much to ask?

13 years old? id say too much.
I'd ask for 100 a piece or 250 for all three.
I'd also do what you can do include pictures. A 13 year old fridge can be really really old and ugly, or it can be not bad.....if they're in decent condition, include lots of pics.

try other message boards with alot of toronto vistors..
Like those import car ricer racing sites. Im sure alot of people could use cheap appliances if they just got a new house/apt and dont wanna shell out that much $$
does your condo have a lil community bulliten board? try that. Maybe new ppl in your building could use them too :cheesygri

$50-75 each is what you'll likely get. Old appliances are worth very little.
I sold a 7 year old good quality stove for $100, and it took me ahwile to do so. I felt lucky to get that price.

If I can't sell them, is there any number to call to donate them and have them pick it up?

Not sure, you could probably try Goodwill?
At any rate, if you just want them gone, call up a metal recycler, or look in the paper for people who buy scrap metal, they'll take it for you, and maybe even give you a few bucks for it.

If no one will pick them up, you can check with your condo's property manager to ask for the city to do a special pickup for disposal.

I was just there selling my old dryer & side-by-side fridge, comparable to yours in age. No-one wanted them even at $50/piece and considering you only have 2 weeks, I'd freecycle them as I did. That way they arrange pickup at their cost and you bring good kharma into the world. In fact we are sort of freecycling our old car this week: The recycler for the Kidney Foundation is coming by to give us a tax donation receipt for $50, which we can then use on our taxes.
Just a thought, AM
