eBay Inquiry - What would you do?

[COLOR=Navy]I had an awkward incident occur on eBay the other day. I won an auction for a $40 item on May 28th & the instructions specified that payment was due within 14 days from the auction close. I was cool with paying in 14 days. A few days later I check my eBay account & the buyer filed a unpaid dispute alert on June 4th which was only like 6 or 7 days after the auction closed.

As far as I know alerts are no big deal as long as I pay, & it shouldn't affect me since he explicitly stated in the listing that payment was due within 14 days.

I kindly wrote the buyer back asking him if he was illiterate & if he knew how to count to 14 since he stated payment was due within 14 days and filed a non-payment dispute before 14.

I've done about 150 transactions on eBay & only ever had 1 issue but managed to get my money back.

Can I ask eBay to remove the dispute? Has anyone had a similar experience? What would you do in this situation?

Any suggestions?

yes, you can ask ebay to remove the dispute. not a big deal, the seller did not honor his part.

does he still ahve the statement that it gives u 14 days? if yes i think u can take this upon ebay to correct it, but u talked to the guy and he said its still ur fault? even though u were ready to pay, im just guessin he was in a hrry to sell the item

But going by what was listed in his ad. it said 14 days. Im surprised eBay even let the dispute go thru. I was willing to pay within 14 days and not any sooner. The idiot might have got his money sooner if they weren't such an eager beaver. Now I'm waiting til midnight of the 14th day before I even attempt any payment to him.

but why take so long to pay? it just means that the seller gets more worried and you get the item even later. the policy is there for convenience but as a seller, if i dont hear anything from you or get payment within a week, i will get worried too. i think you have to look at the other side before you get mad at him/her.

You can file the reminder after 7days, and close it 7 days later to give the buyer a strike. 7+7=14...

Pay him and he'll close the dispute indicating buyer paid.

Did YOU at least contact the seller to let him know you will pay within the 14 days?

The seller and buyer should always communicate with each other so each person knows what is going on.

Deciding to pay on the 14th day without even contacting the seller is a good reason to get him/her worried.

I agree with squall458. The policy is there for convenience. The majority of sellers and buyers want to complete the transaction as soon as possible so that the buyer receives the item quicker and the seller can worry about 1 less auction.

He's eager to sell. You're not so eager to pay. Complete the transaction and try not to be so lax with the payment so to not encounter any more risk of ruining your eBay rep.

The real question is: Did you write to the seller and let him know that you would be waiting over a week to pay??

If you didn't... I can understand someone getting antsy about not hearing from the buyer, and not getting payment. They may allow up to 14 days for you to pay - but everyone prefers things to happen quickly and smoothly. The 14 days to pay wording was nice of the seller and a nice perk for you since you seem to want to delay paying... but it doesn't mean it should be assumed to be the "normal" way of doing business.

He never responded & then I saw the alert about the unpaid dispute.

But even if I didn't contact him, as a buyer he has stated the rules for the contract in his ad & he's not adhering to his own rules.

My thing is, if you don't want people to take 14 days to pay, why specify that payment must be rec'd within 14 days in your listing for the item? That was a mistake on his part. I never take that long to pay anyone.

I think he stated 14 days because there is nothing he can do until those 14 days are up. So can't really say that it's his fault. Just pay and problem solved, dispute gets closed.

i'm just trying to help u out. i mean, the seller is an ***, as u said, he allows u 14 days to pay and he filed a dispute before that. since he wants to play games, play the game with him

The 7 day thing sends a REMINDER to pay. Its not possible to clsoe the dispute for at leat 14 days from teh sale. Many sellers automtically send the reminders at 7 days if they've heard nothing. If he waits for 14 days to send it then its another 7 days before he can close it an move on, for 21 total days.
