Just wondering if there are any alternatives out there. I haven't been able to find anything unfortunately ... and this POS software crashes like there's no tomorrow :(. Honestly, I think it works 1/5 times or so.

Are you using it to connect to your MiniDisc? I thought there was this Sony Connect software out there that worked as well, but I'm not sure.
I'm not a fan of SonicStage either. The duplicating of your music collection, the ridiculous drm and the sweet, sweet crashing.

Yes, SS is a POS. versions 2 and 3 don't work on my windows 2003 systems (I know other people have managed to get it working -- but it doesnt work for me). Where did you get version 4 from? I see Sony Europe has "SonicStage CP 4.0" available... is that the same thing as "regular" SonicStage?

SS relay on direct show filter to decode your files, you must likely have installed a bogus codecs pack
Make sure ffdshow doesn't decode MP3/MP2
And remove (if any) crap pack you installed

Thanks for the input guys. I actually don't have a codec pack installed - we all know they are pieces of garbage :).
As for 4.0, I got it off some googled site, can't rem exactly which one.

Yeah, no drag and drop pisses me off.
I last had 3.4, I will try 4.0 and see what the differences are.

4.0 crashes 100% of the time when i use it with my mz-n1. works perfectly with my mz-ne410 and mz-n10... but SS is still a POS software.
what player are you using it for?

I'm using it with MZ-NE410.
And wow I just realized it manages to BSOD it as well.
"IRQL_not_less_or_equal" is the message.
I've encountered this bsod before, and i actually have an idea ...

I'm using a NW-E405 and it works perfectly.
Perhaps you have some codecs installed? I use to have a codec pack and after i installed the pack, I couldn't transfer songs.

That's a driver issue
Try uninstalling SonicStage/OpenMG/drivers
Then reinstall, make sure you don't leave it connected when it's installing
