I heard of this nationwide Do not call list in canada. I am not sure if it is available yet, but I want to get on it. Anyone know how?
I am really getting annoyed with these survey calls. Everyone that calls, I can tell they are a survey or at least someone that doesn't know me, since they keep pronouncing my name wrong or they don't know who they are calling, and they always say something like "mr. lastname pronounced wrong " then i ask, "who EXACTLY are you looking for?", "mr. lastname pronounced wrong", "First name?", "silence", "take me off your calling list, goodbye!" *click*
:D
If i am on the do not call list, and someone calls, i heard there was some penalty for the caller. A small fine or something. I don't recall. :/

There are some legitimate callers sometimes.. I mentioned in some other thread that I'm working for StatsCan for Census 2006.
I called up this one house:
"Hello, I'm calling from Statistics Canada, is this [address goes here]?"
"Who?"
"Statistics Canada for Census 2006, we have not received your census form."
"NO THANK YOU" *click*
Fortunately, I went to this particular house later in the day and when I told him I was from StatsCan, he had an apologetic look on his face. :cheesygri

hmm.. i thought there was an more official donotcall list.
anyways.
if someone calls you and says "We are conducting a survey..." *Click*
or "We are looking for a person in your household that is older than 19" *Click*
"We are not trying to sell you anything" *Click*
"We are part of a market research firm" *Click*
:)
or i say "I am busy", "when would be a better time to call?", "NEVER!"

haha do you really do that?
I really want to, but I'm a nice person :) and never have the balls to.
I don't think the telemarketers mind either... it's better than having them talk for 2 minutes and then you saying "no" anyways.

i'm so sick of them calling too. i say i'm not interested. but do they listen, no. you'd think they're deaf or something. they'll continue with whatever it is they're trying to sell me.
with a few of them, once you say again you're not interested or no to whatever they're saying, you could hear the change of tone in their voice. like they're annoyed with you. jesus christ, they're the ones calling me and then they get annoyed.
it's got to the point where i just say i'm not interested and then hang up. i did this a few weeks ago.
it's the best way to deal with those fools.

ya from the looks of that website.... i dont know what to think... it is a marketing firm, and they want you to put in your contact information.......
mighty suspicious....
It is like putting your email into those "unsubscribe forms"....
I thought the govt enacted some donotcall legislation at the beginning of the year, or was i just going out of my mind?

"But a new bill was introduced on Dec. 13, 2004, almost six months after the Liberals won a minority government in the June 2004 election. It is modelled on the American [do not call] registry."
"The bill calls for fines of $1500 per person and $15,000 per business for each infraction."
"The bill became law on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005 – three days before the government fell."
"The do-not-call registry is expected to be in operation by the summer or fall of 2007."

I registered awhile ago, even though I wasn't getting many calls, and didn't notice any increase. Correlation does not equal causation, I suppose.

Though, according to Google, it has a number of big differences compared the American version which might make it alot less effective.

Exactly what I did. I believe it's actually the "Do Call List".

Since putting my name on the list, the number of calls have actually decreased. No more calls at 9:00AM when I'm trying to sleep. I have a month off before I start work and I'd like to not be waken up at 9 by the same 1-800 number

Yeah, instead send me a PM with your phone number and the time you want to be woken up and I'll forward it on to my ... uh... "wake-up service". Yeah, that's it.

I used to do telemarketing, to americans not canadians....crappiest job ever but let me give you's a few tips: You have to say "put me on your do not call list" or they will call back, especially if you're rude. As far as the national do not call list, companies you do business with (i.e. bank, credit card etc..) can still call because they have an "established business relationship" with you (that's with the american one), so when those companies call, ask to be put on the do not call list. It only took me doing that for a few months to pretty much end all telemarketing calls to my house.

Do people constantly get those calls from random numbers with nobody on the other line? It's just slience. It's annoying as **** and I'm not sure anyway to fight it. Any suggestions on those ones?

i think those are robbers that are stalking out your place, and call you to see if you are home. Well that is my theory.

I keep getting these automated calls 3, 4 times a day which keep asking for some guy I don't know, ask to mentioned reference number 13808201380810 or whatever, and don't even leave a number to call. They've been calling for at least a good 2-3 years non-stop. It's pissing me off, and there seems to be little I can do.

seriously, everytime i get a call, i just say no thank you and can you please put me on your do not call list.
I rarely if ever get calls anymore. Perhaps 3 or 4 a year.
Hubby just says no thanks, and he gets calls, all the time. I'm talkin, like 1 or two a week.

the worst is when you get a call, and when you pick it up... you hear the phone on the other end RINGING... wtf?!!
