Quad SLI

and what's surprising is that it can work on a motherboard that is not SLI (not the quad sli)

*Compared to a single 7900 GX2 dual-GPU board used in initial Quad SLI systems, the e-GeForce 7950 GX2 delivers similar performance, but is only nine inches long to better fit most cases and permit more flexible peripheral installation and cooling solutions. A 7950 GX2 card will work in both SLI and non-SLI motherboards.

I wouldn't boast about quad SLI. It's far from being mature and even working properly. Heck it isn't even being supported by Nvidia because it simply isn't ready yet. Anyways, from what I've read before, this card still doesn't support AA+HDR. I wonder what's taking them so long..

i agree, there are lots of kinks that need to be worked out. the 7900's are still having problems since their release. I definetly wouldn'tbuy it now , nor can i afford it. but i find the quad sli concept very intersting and expect the results to be very good.

Actually I've read somewhere that it doesn't. Nvidia does not provide to the software necessary to enable this to end-users

Newegg has them for $650USD. Considering its monofilament bleeding edge, that's not a bad price.

Way too overpriced for my tastes however. I'm still loving my 7800GT.

I love that two video card tacked on look that 7950 has. Which I suppose it is.

actually that is correct for the time being. as the software that supports that will only be available to authorized builders for now.

Note: QUAD SLI support obtained by combining two e-GeForce 7950 GX2 boards will be provided through a future NVIDIA ForceWare driver release, and will only be available initially through authorized system builders.

Is that a euphemism for being wealthy? You made a funny. Ha ha. Ha ha.

No, no.. you hit it.. sheer comedy gold!

Just so I'm reading this right. Does it mean 1x7950 is as fast as 2x7900?

According to the G3D review, 1x7950 GX2 ALMOST matches the performance of 2x7900GTX.

another thing to note is that i remember reading a preview on this card and gone is the large cooler and quiet fan of the 7900GTX and in comes a smaller cooler with a faster fan for both gpu's of the 7950. I can only imagine what this does for noise. :(

You should hear the fan on my 7800GT when it gets going; easily the loudest thing in my pc... I can only dread what the 7950 would sound like.

i wonder if it's possible to get aftermarket cooling on those 7950's , doesn't look like much space inbetween them.

I'm sure Zalman or AC will come out with a $50 part that'll cool one of them. After spending almost $700 on a card, what's another 50?

Well that all depends on resolutions used, and features enabled.

I think this 7950 can trump dual 7900GT, but not dual 7900GTX's, simply due to the lower clock frequencies.

i think dual 7900gtx's with a OC'd conroe will be hard to touch. even by a single 7950.

I have two here that I've been benching and I don't find them loud. I still think ATI cards, X1800, X1900 series are the loudest.

A single 7950 GX2 with a Yonah OCed on air beats my old FX-57 @ 3.8ghz and 7800GTX 512's in SLI pretty handily. I was on vacation from benching when the 7900GTX came out so I didn't really bench them. I'll try the GX2 with my Conroe in the next few days.... :)

The GX2 would be even better if the drivers were not rushed and better developed.

kawaii is a guy from future.... haha

I think I will go for 1900XTX Crossfire instead of 7900GTX SLI or 7950GX2 (single), is it a good move or?? tell me kawaii... what do you think?

i think the key to the gx2's is the quad sli ability rather than just a single card

only system builders get 91.28
where the public gets 91.29 which has quad SLI disabled

but if u can find 91.28 to download, u might be ok and able to do quad SLI on ur own before anyone else does!!

And this is why SLI becomes useless after the next generation of card comes out.

The 7900GT have major heat problems ... I have no idea how the GX2 can possibly work

More likely 1 of these will match the performance of 2 7900GT's in SLI. The clock rates on the 7900GTX's in SLI are still a lot faster. I think I will wait until the release of the dual-core GPU's, hopefully to be released in the 8000 series. Dual-core Quad-SLI, imagine that =)

7900gts arent nearly as bad as the 7800s were...just point a 120mm fan at em and I dont think youd have too many problems.

Anyway, hows this for some aftermarket cooling? http://forums.vr-zone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=75515

i was just looking at that too, too bad the drivers are causing problems with performance.
