I just saw this deal on the main page:

Link to deal at Tiger Direct (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1961041&Sku=M501-1208&SRCCODE=LSCAN&CMP=AFC-LSCAN&AffiliateID=CAqD7bLWUPI-R0eiNjaE3MDb4w8k9YfpBQ)

I was wondering.....does anyone know if USB TV Tuners like that one generally work with PAL tv signals in Europe? My wife is going to Switzerland for a year and she hopes to use her laptop as a tv, so I was going to get the TV Tuner in the above deal for her to use.

SHOULD be fine. i mean the lcd is a progressive display device with high resolution then pal, and the difference in framerate isnt an issue either. Provided there isnet some reginoal software lock it shoulnt be a problem

Umm, are you sure it is fine?

The issue isn't with outputting the PAL signal to computer monitor. The issue is if the TV Tuner can properly accept a PAL broadcast signal.

Look for a Tuner that specifically says it supports PAL. There's a Sabrent PC Card listed there that says it is supports "Global TV systems".

edit// Okay, I see the one you are looking at. The specs says "Hardware I/O ... - TV Standards: NTSC_M, PAL_I/D/B ", so I guess you're safe ... except that it's no longer available for sale.

I bought one from NCIX before (I forget the brand but it is usb2.0) and it accepted my PS2 PAL game signals just fine FWIW. Gaming was horrible though since there's about a 1sec lag between when you press the button and the action appearing on-screen.
