My hamster keeps gnawing on the tongue (that keps it shut) of the side door. This wouldn't be a problem if the thing didn't make such a racket (and if she wasn't in my bedroom). I'm getting sick and tired of losing sleep to a thing that's 1/1000th my size.
Is there anyway to get her to stop doing this? I need advice before I connect an electrical current to the damn cage

Zap it. It'll stop after that.

Rodents need to contantly gnaw to keep their teeth from growing, put a small piece of wood in there to keep him busy.

I know they need to gnaw. This isn't my first hamster.
It's the fact that the part she's chewing on makes a shitload of noise. All I can hear while trying my damndest to sleep is *CLANG BANG CLANG CLANG BANG CLANG*
I'm surprised the damn thing has any teeth left on it.

Well, I also read that hamsters don't respond to physical discipline. So even just a tap on the nose'll do ****-all

Can't you move it somewhere else?

I used to be able too. Then Chloe had her kittens.

there's a spray that you can use on cords to stop a bunny from chewing on cords, perhaps you could use that?

You could try to stick a stuffed animal arm through to block it, or wood for it to chew instead.

Ahh I see.. maybe you can stick it in the closet or something to minimize the sound...

I suddenly remember when I had a pair of gerbils. I also bought a new cage that came a plastic house - that lasted a day. They weren't nocturnal - man I miss them...
Hmm, I think I have some, might try some red hot if I can't find any.

my old hamster ate 60% of his plastic elevated sleeping area. eating plastic is a given

yes, good idea
put in an object which will stop the clanging sound
maybe a rubber object or a stuffed animal

Could she have a problem with her gums? Call a vet.
I'm thinking it could be an overgrown or broken tooth.
Too many sunflower seeds, and not enough nutrients found in fruits & veggies maybe?

Well, it wouldn't piss me off so much if it wasn't forcing me to have to start the next day on 3 hours of sleep.
I like having hamsters in my house, I've had 6 (and 2 gerbils). None of them made anywhere as near as much of a racket as this one does.
And she seems to have gotten used to the hot sauce, now...
