So my Ti4200 just died.
Can someone recommend the best video card(in terms of gaming) for my 4 year old computer? Best bang for the buck!
Specs:
ASRock K7MV3 Mobo (AGP 4x slot)
XP 2200+
768mb ddr333 ram
WD 120 GB SATA Harddrive
450W Power Supply
Thanks!

Your CPU and bus speeds may be limiting factors for some of the higher end AGP cards (x800, 6800..)

Yeah, I'm just looking for a video card adequate for some gaming. I mostly play adventure games anyway. The Ti4200 that I had actually worked like a charm!

If you felt that your Ti4200 was adequate enough for the games you play, I am assuming you are looking for a videocard that's much better to justify the investment, but high enough that it won't be bottlenecked by your system right? Well, before we fire out some recommendations, what is your budget?
... off the top of my head with your system specs, I probably wouldn't push higher than a 9800pro or 6600gt

Just buy a used 9800pro for under $100.

ya could always try a X1600 Pro agp video card in it ... FS has 512 meg models of them on for like $199 right now ..... elsewise if ya look around the gta there are some 256 meg sapphire models of the card around for like 129 -140 for one .. but I do agree if you want good preformance you should look at selling those parts off & move to a newer AMD AM2 or Intel Pentium 4 Core solution then.

how do i kno if my computer is compatible with the newer video cards?
here's my system:
Gigabyte GA-7VAXP
AMD 1800+ Athlon XP
512MB DDR RAM
80GB HD
and the video card i'm looking to get is the ATI AIW X800XL (AGP)...will this video card work on my current system?

I'd say go with a cheap ole ATI 9800Pro. You could put a nvidia 6600GT (comparible to 9800pro) or the x1600 like a previous poster said.
The X800XL is another decent bet.... is that the one from the Hot Deals section? Very good deal and very overclockable.
You shouldn't be paying much more than $100-150 though. I've seen the X1600 for like $130. I paid $160 for a 6600gt a couple of months back. Dunno the prices on the others.
If you are looking to do an upgrade (I'd imagine to keep the computer for another couple of years), then I'd STRONGLY suggest upgrading to 1GB of ram as well. Its cheap, it'll speed up responsiveness in Windows and give you a big boost in gameplay.
The GA-7VAXP is a KT400 board, which should run any of those video cards just fine, just make sure you get the AGP version (although you probably already know that). You might need to throw on the latest bios for it though. I did a quick google of that board and the X800XL and didn't see anything about the two not working together.

I'd say 6600GT or 9800P depending on how much you can get either for. The 9800P you should be able to find under $100 used. I'd go with that despite the good price on the X800XL, unless you're planning a processor upgrade soon.
The 6600GT and 9800P are also a lot faster than the old Ti you had in there.

Agreed on the 9800 Pro or the 6600GT. Anything more is just a waste.

My budget is as cheap as possible :cheesygri . But around $100 sounds good!
So it seems like I'll go with 9800pro or 6600gt.
One thing, how much of a performance hit (if any) will I notice since my AGP slot is 4x?
Thank you all!

none, your biggest bottleneck will be the processor.
