Hi,
i have been using a no name KVM made in taiwan and whenver windows xp crashed and it prompts me the option to boot in safe mode/normal mode etc the keyboard does not recognize my input. This gets very irritating because i have to plug in the keyboard back in the serial port manually everytime this happens and it totally kills the purpose of KVM.
so my question is, are there better KVM out there that is able to recognize keyboard input before windows boots up? Which one do you recommend?

For USB keyboard/mouse or PS/2?
Have had no problems with the Startech brand. Use plenty of those at work.

Is it a USB KVM? If so, you might have to go into the BIOS and turn on bios support for USB keyboard and mouse. You may need to manually hook up a keyboard to do this although often times you can get into bios setup regardless of the settings.
What brand of KVM do you have?

Good luck; let me know how it goes.
Does the other computer (I assume you have two hooked up) exhibit the same problems?

i just checked bios i have the USB controller and usb legacy both enabled. I am plugging in a serial keyboard in a KVM and it does not recognize my input when i try to go to safe mode. And yes the other computer has the same problem too. I guess i need to buy a better KVM. thanks for the help.

I bought a $20 nGear KVM from NCIX. Works perfectly in/out of Windows.

Ahh, that sucks, sorry to hear that... well at least they aren't too pricey these days.

I think what you're looking for is a KVM with PS/2 emulation, so it works on bootup.
The cheapy $20 kvm from NCIX does that for me
